Sinterklaas
I have a problem after upgrading GTA San Andreas to patch v 1.01 (European version): - The graphics suddenly look terrible and everything has jagged edges. The game itself is playable but it's as if you're playing an old DOS game. - Some of the buttons aren't always working properly either, for example: when I clicked "quit game" nothing happened so I had to close the menu and then return there a second time to make it work. I've looked in the advanced display options and I can change everything except the anti-aliasing and the resolution: Anti-aliasing is turned off and the resolution is 800x600x32, I can not save any of the changes I make to these two options, preventing me from solving the problem. I've tried deleting the GTA_SA.set file and then rebooting, but it didn't work. Does anyone know what I can do to solve this problem? The vanilla version was working fine by the way (except for the thunderstorm/disappearing sound bug, which is why I patched it); the problems started after installing patch v 1.01. Is there perhaps an easy way to downgrade to the vanilla version again or do I have to uninstall the entire game for that? By the way, here are my system specifications: Mainboard: Abit I-45CV RAM: Kingston 2 GB pc2-5300/667 CPU: Intel Core 2 duo 4600 boxed (2 x 2.2 GHz) Videocard: ATI Radeon HD 4800 series Sounds: 6-channel (5.1) OS: Windows XP Home Edition SP3
lil weasel
A complete Uninstall. You have to have a Version 1 game for the patch to apply. If you have recently purchased you DVD look at the box/Disc. If ithey don't have a version # you have a 1 otherwise they will say Verison 2, (which already has the patch.) If you downloaded the game from Direct2Drive or SteamPower.com it is a Version 3 which doesn't allow any modding. Normal graphics are 'kinda' crude around the edges, iie: Circles are more like a series of short straight lines.
Sinterklaas
I have an original DVD (version 1) which I bought legally as soon as the game came out. This version has the thunderstorm/disappearing sound bug, which is why I patched it to version 1.01. As for the graphics: I know that it's normal for them to be a bit crude around the edges but in my game the edges look like a saw blade because the anti-aliasing is switched off and can't be turned on, nor can I improve the resolution. This wasn't the case before I patched the game: the graphics were fine then. The current graphics actually hurt your eyes and give you a headache if you play for a few minutes. So my problem is: with the patch the graphics are so awful that the game is hardly enjoyable and without the patch I can only play for a few minutes until the sound disappears, which isn't much fun either. So I hope someone can either tell me how to solve the sound problem in version 1 or the graphics problem in version 1.01, because right now both versions are too buggy to enjoy playing them. Sinterklaas
So, anyone knows how to change the resolution and activate the anti-aliasing? Otherwise I'd have to uninstall everything and pray that I can find a way to solve the version 1 sound issue without the patch.
Sinterklaas
I managed to solve the problem with the graphics (you have to press enter to store the changes ) I'm still having the problem with the sound though, even now that I've patched it to version 1.01. Any solutions for that?
radioman
A simple fix for the Sound Bug, is to go to Start, type in DXDIAG in the Run box and press Enter, then click the Sound tab and lower the Sound Accelleration to Basic or none. Note that this only works on XP, as the Sound Acceleration option is disabled in Vista and 7. This fixed the problem on my XP Pro laptop-on V2 of the game. Hope this helps. Sinterklaas
Thanks, it's working so far! Fortunately I have XP. Is there also a solution for the Vista and Windows 7 users?
radioman
Thanks, it's working so far! Fortunately I have XP. Is there also a solution for the Vista and Windows 7 users? Actually, I think this is just an XP issue, because I have not experienced it on my Vista desktop (which has the same exact sound card as my XP Pro laptop), or 7 laptop. I have only experianced this on my XP Pro laptop. From what I understand, this issue usually only comes up on XP systems with the Realtek Sound cards(what most PC's I have found come installed with). Realtek and Vista seem to work well together, it looks like it is just Realtek and XP that have a problem-lol
