[gtafan]
hi folks im having a little problem with gta 4...ok heres the deal i like to play gta 4 with high textures and i can play the game max settings on the unpatched version getting 17-28 fps but the problem is that all of the city textures are missing(i can only see lightpoles and some cars far away in the BG...so i tried the 1.0.0.4 patch...it fixed the missing textures now the only problem is id doesnt allow me to put high textures settings...so i put the -norestrictions on commandline.txt now i can put the textures to high...i restart the game all exited and such...but BAM! even that i put high game still loads low res textures( i can notice that on cars license plate&interior being blury and barely readable) So can some1 tell me how to get high res textures on the patched version(any other patch that doesnt restrict graphic otpions? pl0x? Here are my specs btw Amd athlon 64 x2 3.2 ghz(oc'ed) 2gb ram Nvidia Geforce 9500gt 1 gb (oc'ed too) Game is very playable with patch i get mostly mid 20's and low'30's fps all the time
GritEngine
My guess is that your 1gb on that card cannot even be utilized by it, basically it's not fast enough to even take advantage of a gig. Use medium settings, you really seem to have a low-medium rig there. Extreme overclocking is known to cause streaming issues, as well. If you are playing on a low resolution, you cant even see the images anyway (a top-level texture only is used when there is enough room on screen - that means, if your screen is only showing 500px per lane of road, you can only see a 256 version of the texture because you are too low res - whatever you do, don't lower settings like res just to get higher textures, it is just a memory waste and you will never see them without a high enough resolution to display them) Edited July 28, 2010 by GritEngine

GritEngine
You should give Medium textures a go, then. That is about right for that resolution, really. The only time you'll see any higher tex is going to be in unnatural closeness to surfaces, allowing them enough room to show top-level You will probably claim back valuable performance for other effects.
