Identifying GTA San Andreas Version

How can i tell whether i have GTA San Andreas v2 or v1?

Look at the box and/or Disc.

If it is other than a Version one it will be printed on cover or label.

One of the start up screens will display the version number if it is not a verison one.

European versions don't have a version number printed on either the disc or the case (I'm not sure with the American ones though). And I wouldn't recommend going by what version the ReadMe file says either, because that hasn't changed since it was made originally for version 1.

 

There are, however a few ways:

 

1) If you have mods installed, chances are, you have version 1 as version 2 cannot be modded (without being downgraded).

 

2) Depending on how far in-game you are, if you can enable the Hot Coffee mode, you have version 1.

 

3) If the case shows the requirements for Vista too, and also says on the spine just below the age rating symbol, "XP / 2000 / Vista",

then you have version 2.

That part is False. I have V2(Original), and have used mods without a problem. I have used OrionSR's .ipl mod for the Chain Game armories without problems. I have used Demerest's Code Tools and mods without problems. To my knowledge, the only mods that DO NOT work without downgrading are .img mods. Heck, V1 saves work on V2 games just by simply running them through the GTASnP uploader/downloader program and downloading the converted save-I have done this a few times on the old Chain Game saves from back before the auto-convert feature was incorporated into the GTASnP Uploader/downloader.

 

But yes, lil weasal is right, if it says "Second Edition" at the bottom of the box, it is V2, if it says nothing, it is V1. OR if it says "V.2.00" at the bottom of the Start screen in-game, it is V2. Also, there is a V3(the Steam/D2D version)-and from what I have read, that is the only version that is NOT moddable and cannot be downgraded. Nor do the saves from V2 and V1 work on V3. Just a heads up.
