The beach and weather argument for Vice City

Alot of pro-Vice City people keep promoting VC over Chicago/Midwest because Liberty City/GTA IV was too "dark" too "northern" too this too that. Then they say that the next GTA would be better in the south and in Miami because of warm weather and the beach. But that "weather" and "beach" argument is weak because there are also beaches in Chicago, and the best lakefront in the Midwest. A GTA Chicago game in the summertime still offers hot weather and beaches. Some of the richest urban neighborhoods in America are on Chicago's lakefront. Why do people automatically assume that GTA Chicago has to be a winter game? GTA can put the Chicago game in the summertime and make a rendition of some of these pictures

That's never gonna happen. It's similar to Vice City and Liberty City at the same time. And I think that Rockstar can do much better then this.

well then i just hope the game would have a winter season so there could actually be snow on the ground

We need seasons in GTA IV. Or at least the option to choose which season every time you start it up. Sure, not the most realistic approach, but having snow would be sick.

As much as I love Chicago and I do agree with you it just doesn't make sense to do a huge sprawling metropolis like Chicago right after we just had a huge ass city like NYC.

This is from a topic I started way back.

Chicago is gray, dull and gritty.

GTA is not a mirror or a 1:1 scald model, GTA is parody, a media impersonation of what ever given city Rockstar choices.

Chicago may have its sunny monuments, and green cheerful parks, but that is not the impression you get from movies, TV and the media, and as a result of that, the parks and the sun-drenched days doesn’t really count.

Some participant on this forum have been to the windy city, and experienced it first hand, but the whole series is built on second hand impressions. Impressions of city’s, the criminal underground and even America. A first hand perspective off anything in the GTA games is therefore a spoiled perspective, including any realistic views of Chicago.

Rockstar, the Medias and my impression of Chicago

Apparently  a rare and unusual monument to experience in Chicago.

Chicago might not be too dark, gray, dull and gritty. But that's the impression you get from the media, and therfor the impression that counts. Just as Maiami isn't sunny and clear sky at all times.

And skillz7855 remove or scale that stupid IMG.

Maxopower has hit the nail on the head, GTA is about public perception and the most people see Chicago as a dark and gritty location. Whilst I know thats not true, I think that if GTA is set in a sunny/warm location it should be somewhere tropical or famous for its climate.

And besides if you want to support Chicago, at least do what me and GameboyBP did and come up with a set of reasons, don't just pit it head to head with other settings.

It is the impression what counts however i like Chicago for what it is a good city.

Altough those pictures show Chicago in a different light to what people normally assume with that city. E.g Dark, Windy etc i wouldnt want to go to another large built up city in a GTA game straight after IV. Maybe in the a few more installments you could base a city on Chicago but it would just feel like we would be repeating ourselves as Chicago and New York look similar if you look at the buildings etc.

(Yes i know this doesnt make sense i was trying to make a point and just didnt realise how to word it, you may get it you may not. God i suck cryani.gif )

Hey, I'm all for a game set in Chicago, or the Midwest. I just want a game set in a generally warm, sunny environment first. I'm not stupid, I know Chicago has a summertime, just like NYC. But the two are just too similar. We need something refreshing first, and you and I both know that's VC. After that, Chicago, the whole Midwest, whatever.

Plenty of games do just find when they are in a similar environment straight after each other. And from what I've seen of Chicago, it has alot of color. The only problem is that Stillwater (Saints Row) is based somewhat on Chicago.

I will make, at some point an 80's Chicago topic.

The 80's would be cool during the crack epedemic, a very different 80's than that portrayed in Vice city.

Well that's what I heard anyway. And it's mainly the first Saints Row that looks like it. And also, don't double post. I would like to see Chicago because of the 'Blues Brothers' references it could bring.

80's Chicago was more violent back when they had Cabrini Green and Robert Taylor, two excuses for public hellholes while at the same time being housing. Although that's not denying how violent the Chi is still. I recall looking at some news article one week, I think on a Thursday. There had been like 25 murders in 5 neighborhoods over a span of 5 days.

Chicago is one of the locations I would like GTA to visit, but I agree Chicago's initial impression is dark, dull, grey, and cold. Pretty much like Miami's is sunny, bright, and vibrant.

What's shown of Chicago in the opening post is not the impression I get from the general media.
