Hello, friends!

Today I'm going to review 4 missions made by Jimmy_Leppard. They're the part of a missionpack called The story of Leon Ridge.

The missions can be find here: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=473647

Now, time for review:

- Writing: Excellent, very good style of writing, no mistakes have been found, good work!

- Presentation: Excellent. Great viewing angle between cutscenes, I liked the style of using them in Introduction.

Introduction

- Length: Very good, as it took for me 7 minutes to complete it. The protagonist called Leon and his brother David are at the highest building of Los Santos, Leon's aiming to David's body. After a little dialogue we can see what happened 4 months before it. Leon is going to have a rest with Caroline, who's in love with Leon. After driving and getting rest in Burger Shot, David is calling Leon to say that their father is in hospital and he's bad. Leon drives Carline home and goes to hospital. Then we can see what happened next day that begins at cemetery. After ceremony, mr. Thorn who was the best friend of Leon's and David's father is telling that someone must take over the business. Leon passes, but David accepts. Before arriving in Las Venturas, David drives to Caroline's home and wants her to marry him. After her refuse, David shoots her dead. Leon arrives there the next day and finds out that David killed Caroline.

- Difficulty: Very easy, as there is no gunfights or something like it.

- Variety: Good. Characters include Leon, David, Caroline, people at ceremony, mr. Thorn and cops at the end of mission. Vehicles include Admiral, ZR-350 and cars at ceremony. Weapons include Desert Eagle and Pistol.

Renny and Max

- Length: Decent, as it took for me 4 minutes to complete it. Leon is calling David but he can't do it. He decides to drive to the airport and meet David, but he is late, the plane to Venturas flew away. After the failure, Leon is calling his old friend, Renny, and asks for help. After they visit another old buddy, Max. Then the three decide to go to Las Venturas and meet David for revenge.

- Difficulty: Very Easy, as there are no gunfights or fights in the mission.

- Variety: Decent. Characters include Leon, Renny and Max. Vehicles include Shamal and ZR-350. No weapons were used in mission.

Cousin with weapons

- Length: Decent, as it took for me 4 minutes to complete it. Leon and friends are going to Las Venturas, but first Leon is driving his car back home. Meanwhile, we can see David and Mr. Thorn dealing with Triads. Renny, Max and Leon are close to their target, but first they need weapons. Renny is calling his cousin in San Fierro, Bob. After getting what they wanted, the three are going to leave the place but suddenly 4 gang members are asking Bob for the goods. The four are shooting and killing gang members and decide to get lower because of police.

- Difficulty: Medium. The only difficult is the shootout, but the enemies have tall accuracies and no headshot, so it was difficult to kill them.

- Variety: Excellent. Characters include Leon, Renny, Max, David, mr. Thorn, Triads, Bob andgang members. Vehicles include ZR-350, Tornado, Sultan, Sadler and one car that I couldn't identify. Weapons include Micro Uzi, Pistol, Desert Eagle and some other models that I couldn't identify.

San Fierro loan sharks

- Length: Good, as it took for me 5 minutes to complete it. After the shootout Bob is telling the truth to guys. He is in debts to Rifas and he must pay all. Leon decides to teach them a lesson and asking for the last man in gang who gave Bob money. Leon and Renny are going to the meeting place at hospital parking lot while Max is watching after Bob. Renny and Leon kill Cruz and gang members who was with him and drive to the alleyway to lose the wanted level. Sfter all, the two are coming back to Bob's place.

- Difficulty: Hard, but I can say that it was medium-hard. Shootout at parking lot was really cool and the enemies have very good accuracies and again no headshot, good work!

- Variety: Very good. Characters include Leon, Renny, Max, Bob, Cruz and Rifas. Vehicles include Sultan, Premier and Sadler. The only weapon that was used is pistol.

Overall, the missions are interesting and very good designed. I liked the story and the style of story, brother became enemy and traitor is really good style. But the missions need some more difficulty and gunfights. Anyway, I wish author good luck in future works and continue in this style biggrin.gif.

General Scrotum

SatournFan, I don't want to bitch you, but you should rate the missions in the pages before, not the ones in the current page.

Plus, I'm confused of what are the ones needed to be reviewed and which are not.

Hello everyone,

Today, I'm going to review 2 missions made by maliksusanto. They're part of the terrorist war series.

Please click the missions below in order to download each of them:

- Ambush

- Claude escape

Now, it's time for the review,

- Writing: Good. While there isn't too many dialogues or long mission instructions. They're a noticeable amount of typing mistakes. Otherwise, good text colorings in order to make the readings a little bit easier.

- Presentation: Good. Nice viewing angle between different cutscenes. While some cutscenes are cool with explosions and the wreckage that surrounds after them, most of the cutscenes are pretty much about the communications between different characters.

Ambush

- Length: Very Short, as it can be done in 1.5 minutes. The player plays as an army soldier named Jerry, and has been tasked by the military to kill the terrorists around the Sherman dam in the desert.

- Difficulty: Normal. The enemies are mostly packed together and have average accuracies. Fortunately as the main action happens in a wide open area, they can be killed without too much trouble by shooting them beyond their firing range with the player's ak-47.

- Variety: Good. The characters include the army soldiers and the terrorists who are mostly normal ped actors. The weapons include the ak-47, m4, mp5 and rocket launcher. The vehicles are mostly composed or different ordinary cars, mainly used for roadblocks.

Claude escape

- Length: Short, as it can be done in 3 minutes. The player plays as the army soldier Jerry, and he and Pvt.Nelson are going to see the prisoner Claude, in which the latter manages to brake free with an explosion from the prison entrance inside the Area 69 base. Jerry and Nelson must chase after Claude before he escapes.

- Difficulty: Hard. While Jerry and Nelson chase after their main target, other inmates are getting to their way. Most of them have good accuracies and some of them carry lethal weapons such as country rifle and combat shotgun. To make it harder, most of the Area 69 interiors are very compact, which forces the player to proceed more carefully, as the enemies mainly appears around the corners.

- Variety: Very Good. The characters include Jerry, Nelson, the army soldiers and the terrorist prisoners who are mostly normal ped actors. The weapons include ak-47, mp5, m4, micro-uzi, tec-9, country rifle and combat shotgun. The vehicles and objects include a 4x4 car, explosions, a vending machine and a metal ceiling.

Overall, the missions are good icon14.gif , albeit a little bit too short. I found the second mission hilarious, especially the part where the bad guy suddenly manages to escape his prison cell, while at the same time, the protagonists are about to pay a visit into him. Anyways, good job for the missions and keep up the good work.

Hello everyone,

My name's AznKei, and I'm a DYOM reviewer. I created this topic so I can rate some of the DYOM missions that the DYOM community have made. I'll give you a full detailed review about some random missions I played and add some feedback for improvements. I'll also accept review requests, just pm me or write down your requests at this topic, and I'll take a look of your DYOM missions.

For those who aren't very familiar with my rating system. I will explain how it works:

"Writing" is focused with the mission dialogues and instructions quality. The rating depends the structure of your writings and how easy we can understand them. From the lowest to the highest ratings, it goes like this: Could be better ---> Decent ---> Good ---> Very Good ---> Excellent.

"Presentation" is focused on visual and storyline quality. The rating depends how accurate the camera in your cutscenes are and if you put things that surprise the player like the explosions, the stunts, etc. From the lowest to the highest ratings, it goes like this: Could be better ---> Decent ---> Good ---> Very Good ---> Excellent.

"Length" is focused on the time the player spends on the mission. The rating depends how long the mission lasts. The rating goes like this: Too short (1- min) ---> Short (2 to 3 mins) ---> Decent (4 mins) ---> Good (5 to 6 mins) ---> Very Good (7 to 9 mins) ---> Excellent (10 to 14 mins) <--- Long (15 to 20 mins) <--- Very Long (21+ mins).

"Difficulty" is focused on... well, the difficulty on the mission. The rating depends how hard the mission can be for an average player perspective and how accessible it is for the mainstream players. The rating goes like this: Very Easy ---> Easy ---> Medium <--- Hard <--- Very Hard! <--- Too Hard!!.

"Variety" is focused about the amount of contents that can be found in the mission. The rating depends how many different actors, weapons, objects, vehicles and pickups can be found in the specific mission. From the lowest to the highest ratings, it goes like this: Could be better ---> Decent ---> Good ---> Very Good ---> Excellent.

At the end, I'll make a short summary about the mission I just played and give some feedbacks the DYOM user needed in order to improve his future missions. I'll also give you the DYOM link for those who really wants to give the mission a shot.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!

I would like to say that I'm very thankful that most people here in the DYOM subforums appreciate my reviews and wants to review their missions. Unfortunately, I would like to inform you about some changes that will be made starting this September.

As most of you know, school is already started for most young people. And since I will be spending a lot of time studying, especially at University level, and job working at the same time, I will have to face a lot of pressures in my daily life. Which means that I have no choice but to cut the review rate down to between 2 or 3 reviews per week.

It was good to help you guys in this forums and I hope you can understand the situation that I have to go through right now.

Well then, I hope you guys a good "back to school" period. ^_^

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!! (Again?)

Happy new year 2011 everyone!!! biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Ok! On topic,

I would like to say that I'm very happy that the DYOM community cares a lot for my DYOM reviews and that the topic becomes more important over time. So, I decide that starting from today, they would be actually 4 DYOM reviews: Myself, Secronom President, jetjatin and SatournFan.

Secronom President told me that he wanted to review some missions that the DYOM community made. I analyzed some of his reviews he made, it's actually very good. icon14.gif Jetjatin is mainly focused with the mission video reviews. While SatournFan is new for doing the DYOM reviews, I would like to tell the DYOM community to be less strict about his criticisms as he just started to do them.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!! (as for 26/03/2011)

I heard about some DYOM users here that are confused about who are the legitimate DYOM reviewers in this topic. I'm going to give the answer so that's people can understand...

There's ONLY 4 DYOM REVIEWERS that are allowed to review in this topic: Me (AznKei), Secronom President, Jetjatin and SatournFan.

However, if you're interested to be a DYOM reviewer or want to post a review in this topic. You have to GET THE AUTHORIZATION by PM me or posting a request here in order to legitimate your review post.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hello everyone,

Today, I'm going to review a mission made by xMatix. The mission's name is G.I.W. - Wanted and it's part of the Going in War series.

The link to download this mission can be found at: http://dyom.gtagames.nl/?act=show&id=12067 .

Now, it's time for the review,

- Writing: Excellent. Everything is pretty much accurately well written, with the right structure and punctuations. Also, nice text colorings to highlight the keywords and the character's names.

- Presentation: Excellent. Impressive timing for the dialogues and the actions during the cutscenes. The atmosphere is really impressive too, with the rainy weather which really fits into a very intense military action. There's a lot of scripted objects, items, actors and weapons that can found and seen in this mission.

- Length: Excellent, as it can be done in 10 minutes. The player plays as Johnson MacTylor, one of EF141 soldier, also codenamed "Sponge". He and his team must find Al-Hakir around a highly armed Russian Town (Angel Pine), and kill all their enemies there.

- Difficulty: Medium. The enemies mostly have average accuracies, despite carrying some dangerous weapons such as assault rifles and sniper, and can be defeated by attacking them in long range one-by-one. It's also important to notice that most of them can't be headshotted and have a large amount of health (500HP). Watch out of the enemy mosquito helicopter's missiles and destroy it as quickly as possible with a homing launcher.

- Variety: Excellent. The characters include Johnson, Larry, Dominic, Captain Cost and the terrorists who are mostly regular Caucasian civilians. The weapons include pistol, m4, ak-47, country rifle, sniper and homing launcher. The vehicles include the mosquito helicopter, a maverick helicopter and a weapon truck. The objects and items include healthpack, armor, bushes, crates, boxes and metallic platforms.

Overall, the mission is impressive icon14.gif . The author took advantage of the DYOM engine potential in order to design massive and complete mission, with a lot of stuffs on it. Impressive work for the author and I hope he can keep up like this in his future missions. biggrin.gif

Hello, friends!

Today I'm going to review 6 missions.

First two are made by maliksusanto. They are the part of the missionpack called Terrorist war

Okay, time for review:

- Writing: Decent. I didn't like the style of author's writing. Also, the author must improve his English cause it too bad.

- Presentation: Good. Nice using if cutscenes, liked it.

Ambush

- Length: Too short, as it took for me 1 minute to complete it. Jeeey, the protagonist, and his partner are going to get the dead body of their friend, Sgt. Kelly, to the base. When they came, terroristsdid an ambush. Jrry and other soldiers kill all terrorists and decide to get to safe place before more of them came.

- Difficulty: Very Easy, as there is no difficulties, even terrorists have a good weapon, they can be easy killed by headshot.

- Variety: Good. Characters include Jerry, soldiers, sgt. Kelly and terrorists. Vehicles include Patriot and Sadler. Weapons iclude M4 and AK47.

Memorial Sgt.Kelly

- Length: Good, as it took for me 5 minutes to complete it. Jerry is going to visit Sgt. Kelly's memorial. Suddenly a soldier, whose name is pvt. Nelson, is coming to Jerry's room. Then they both decide to get to the cemetery. After a story about Kelly's death, we can hear that Kelly's memrial got attacked by terrorists. Nelson and Jerry are going here to kill all terrorists that came.

- Difficulty: Easy, as the only difficults are terrorists with MP5 and minigun.

- Variety: Very good. Characters include Jerry, Nelson, terrorists and pedestrians at memorial. Vehicles include Patriot. Weapons iclude M4, AK47, Shotgun and Desert Eagle. The only object that was used is coffin.

Overall, the missions are good but too easy and short. Author can do them better if he will use some tips to make missions harder and longer. Also, if you want missions to be loadable soon after selecting them in Load Mission, just select Publish mission and upload file "DYOM0.dat" to DYOM official site. Keep up in your future works.

The last 4 missions are made by jetjatin. They are the pat of a missionpack called 1000 Risk's!

Okay, time for review:

- Writing: Very good. Good style of writing, but I think that you must correct some mistakes.

- Presentation: Excellent. Very good use of cutscenes, liked them, especially jump cutscene in First Job. Good work.

Zombies Infection

- Length: Good, as it took for me 6 minutes to complete it. Protagonist, called Thomas, have a task from Mendes to kill all remaining zombies in the marked area. He and three SWAT officers must do it. Sfter finishing, Thomas is calling Mendes. Mendes answers that they must wait for the chopper that can pick them up.

- Difficulty: Medium. It can be difficult if you'll be attacked by big zombie crowd.

- Variety: Very good. Characters include Thomas, Mendes, SWAT officers and zombies. Vehicles include FBI Truck and Levathan. Weapons iclude MP5, Pistol, Chainsaw, Shovel and Knife.

Hypnotized Zombies

- Length: Short, as it took for me 3 minutes to complete it. Thomas is tasked by Mendes to rescue Mr. Diar from zombies and get the formula that has Hypnotizer. First, Thomas is getting plane, then he jumps to the plane where Mr. Diar is. After killing all zombies and Hypnotizer and rescuing Mr. Diar, they both are getting back to the base.

- Difficulty: Medium. Mission was a little challengable, cause all zombies and Hypnotizer have weapons, but it's not hard.

- Variety: Very good. Characters include Thomas, Mendes, Mr. Diar, zombies and Hypnotizer. Vehicles include Shamal and Andromeda. Weapons iclude Uzi and Pistol.

First Job

- Length: Short, as it took for me 3 minutes to complete it. The game introduces to us a new protagonist, which name is Rob. We could see him in previous mission (New Mate). Mendes wants Rob to get back the documents that were stolen by some guys. After getting documents, he's coming back to base.

- Difficulty: Easy. There were no difficulties cause all enemies have not so good accuracies and they can be killed by headshot.

- Variety: Very good. Characters include Mandes, Rob, SWAT members and enemies on Mount Chiliad. The only car that was used is Washington. Weapons iclude Desert Eagle, Uzi and Parachute.

A Scientist's Request

- Length: Excellent, as it took for me 10 minutes to complete it. Mr. Bill, who is a scientist, wants Rob to steal back the formula that Thomas got before (Hypnotized Zombies). It's near Verdant Meadows. After killing all guards, Rob is geeting the formula back and coming to mr. Bill.

- Difficulty: Medium. It was hard to kill guards in a shop, cause one of them noticed me, so I decided to use pistol instead of knife.

- Variety: Very good. Characters include Rob, Mr. Bill, guards at base and guards at shop. Vehicles include Hunter, Rhino, Barracks, Sanchez, Burrito and FBI Truck. Weapons iclude pistol and Silenced pistol.

Overall, the missions are great and have a lot of actions. Some of missions are challengable, but all of them are not so hard. I think that author must add some difficult and length to his missions. I want to see a good continuation of the story. Good luck in future works, mate!

Hello everyone,

Today, I'm going to review 3 missions made by maliksusanto. They're part of his empire of the rising sun series.

Click on the missions below in order to download each of them:

- Go to hill

- Hill defense

- Downhill

Now, it's time for the review,

- Writing: Good. While there isn't too many dialogues or long mission instructions. They're a noticeable amount of typing mistakes. Otherwise, good text colorings in order to make the readings a little bit easier.

- Presentation: Very Good. Nice viewing angle between different cutscenes. The whole presentation really feels like a war between the Japanese Imperial Army and the Allied Forces. Otherwise, most of the cutscenes are pretty much about the communications between different characters.

Go to hill

- Length: Short, as it can be done in 3 minutes. The player plays as Neo (Woozie) and he, along with the imperial army soldiers (Triads), has been tasked by Imperial Commander Kenji to kill all the allied military soldiers from Los Santos airport to Verdant Bluffs observatory while on foot.

- Difficulty: Normal. The enemies are quite numerous and carry some powerful weapons such as assault rifles, but they can be defeated as long the player aims to their heads and gets beyond their shooting sights. He also has allies to assist him in the gunfight.

- Variety: Very Good. The characters include Neo, Kenji, his imperial army soldiers and the allied army soldiers. The weapons include m4, sniper, country rifle and ak-47. The vehicles include some barrack trucks. The objects include crates, boxes and cutted woods.

Hill defense

- Length: Short, as it can be done in 3 minutes. The player plays as Neo (Woozie) and he, along with the imperial army soldiers (Triads), conquered the Verdant Bluffs Observatory and must protect the area against the invading allied forces, including their barracks, tanks and hunter helicopter.

- Difficulty: Hard. Most enemies can be defeated if the player aims to their heads, while at the same time, stay away from their shooting sights. However, the enemy hunter helicopter is the reason of the amped up difficulty because of its "hard to avoid" missiles. Destroy it quick with the rocket launcher.

- Variety: Very Good. The characters include Neo, Kenji, his imperial army soldiers and the allied army soldiers. The weapons include m4, rocket launcher, country rifle, desert eagle and ak-47. The vehicles include barrack, tanks and hunter helicopter.

Downhill

- Length: Short, as it can be done in 3 minutes. The player plays as Neo (Woozie) and he, along with the imperial army soldiers (Triads), decide to conquer Downtown by using the main rod from Verdant Bluffs Observatory. Kill the allied army forces who gets in their way.

- Difficulty: Normal. Most enemies can be defeated if the player aims to their heads, while at the same time, stay away from their shooting sights, no matter if they're at ground level or at the rooftop of some buildings.

- Variety: Very Good. The characters include Neo, Kenji, his imperial army soldiers and the allied army soldiers, along with some SWAT members. The weapons include country rifle, mp5, micro-uzi, tec-9, m4 and ak-47. The vehicles include some SWAT trucks. The objects and item include Metal platforms, fences, walls and healthpacks.

Overall, the missions are good icon14.gif , albeit a little bit too short. This series is kinda originalwith a World War II theme on it, where the player is on the axis side, the Imperial Japanese Army and the enemies are the allied forces, the American military. Anyways, good job for the missions and keep up the good work. biggrin.gif

Hello everyone,

Today, I'm going to review 5 missions made by wK commander. They're mostly independent missions except the last 3, which is from his Life in San Fierro series.

Please click on the missions below in order to download each of them:

- Explosive Surprise

- Kill the president

- Life in San Fierro (prt.1)

- Life in San Fierro (prt.2)

- Life in San Fierro (prt.3)

Now, it's time for the review,

- Writing: Very Good. They're generally very well written, with very few mistakes. For some reasons, we don't know the names of the main characters, except the "Life in San Fierro" missions. Nice text colorings too.

- Presentation: Very Good. Nice timing and viewing shots between different cutscenes. Nice use of animations in order to put more life into the storyline of the missions.

Explosive Surprise

- Length: Decent, as it can be done in 4 minutes. The player plays as an unnamed character (Woozie), and he wants to steal some money inside a local deserted bank in Palomino Creek when he heard an explosion just nearby outside. He then heads up to the source of the explosion to see what happened.

- Difficulty: Easy. The mission generally consists of moving from point A to point B and watch the cutscenes in order to understand the storyline. So there's no gunfights or lethal actions to do whatsoever. The only way he can die is to go into the fires of the explosions or to get busted by the cops.

- Variety: Good. The characters include Woozie lookalike protagonist, the firemens from different cities and the pedestrians as witness of the explosions. The objects and vehicles include firetrucks, explosions and guarded rails.

Kill the president

- Length: Good, as it can be done in 5 minutes. The player plays as an unnamed character (T-Bone), and he wants to kill the president from his driver car in downtown Los Santos and escape the crazy law enforcements by catching up a plane at the airport.

- Difficulty: Unfairly Hard!!! With many enemies popping just in front of the player, carrying mostly m4s and having 100% accuracies, the player will very likely die from them before he can do any actions. Even if he manages to survive, there's a 6 star wanted level on him with no available cars nearby. So most player will probably use cheats in order to pass the mission.

- Variety: Good. The characters include the T-Bone lookalike protagonist, the president, his driver and the army, police, swat and fbi as law enforcements. The weapons include sniper, m4, pistol and police stick. The vehicles include the president's car.

Life in San Fierro (prt.1)

- Length: Very Short, as it can be done in 2 minutes. The player plays as an unnamed character (CJ), and he wants to get a car from a local car shop in Doherty, San Fierro and wants to send this car to his garage just a few yards away.

- Difficulty: Easy. The mission generally consists of moving from point A to point B and watch the cutscenes in order to understand the storyline. So there's no gunfights or lethal actions to do whatsoever. The only way he can fail the mission is to get busted by the cops.

- Variety: Could be better. The characters include the CJ lookalike protagonist and the car dealer. The vehicles include the red buffalo car. That's it.

Life in San Fierro (prt.2)

- Length: Short, as it can be done in 3 minutes. The player plays as an unnamed character (CJ), and he wants to get a job as a burger shot worker in Garcia and returns back home once he gets the application. Later that night, a mysterious guy tries vandalizes the garage while being unnoticed.

- Difficulty: Easy. The mission generally consists of moving from point A to point B and watch the cutscenes in order to understand the storyline. So there's no gunfights or lethal actions to do whatsoever. The only way he can fail the mission is to get busted by the cops.

- Variety: Decent. The characters include the CJ lookalike protagonist, the burget shot worker and the pimp lookalike mysterious guy. The vehicles include the red buffalo car. The object includes explosions.

Life in San Fierro (prt.3)

- Length: Decent, as it can be done in 4 minutes. The player plays as the CJ lookalike character, who is later revealed as Johnson, and he wakes up, only to see a few officers outside of his house, they explained that someone used a bomb in this place and tell the protagonist to stay away for a while, in which he decides to go to his working shift at burger shot.

- Difficulty: Easy. The mission generally consists of moving from point A to point B and watch the cutscenes in order to understand the storyline. So there's no gunfights or lethal actions to do whatsoever. The only way he can fail the mission is to get busted by the cops.

- Variety: Good. The characters include CJ, along as a burger shot worker, the officers from different cities, a few burget shot clients as pedestrians and the mysterious guy. The vehicles include red buffalo car and the LSPD cars.

Overall the missions are good icon14.gif , as the author at least knows how to use the animations or the actors effectively. The only issue is the gunfight from the "Kill the president" mission will seems unfair for most players. So it might be better if the enemies accuracies are toned down and put them a little bit further from the player after the cutscene so it can be doable. Otherwise, good job for the author and keep up the good work biggrin.gif .
