DYOM Mission Reviews

Recommended Posts

AznKei

Hey everyone,

I'm reviewing the first 4 missions of The Journey Saga, a mission series made by Alokik.

The missions can be downloaded at:

http://dyom.gtagames.nl/show/25672

http://dyom.gtagames.nl/show/25733

Now, into the review:

- Writing: Decent. There's a noticeable amount of typing and grammatical mistakes at the dialogues and mission objectives. But they're comprehensive enough to understand the story.

- Presentation: Good. While the author did a good job with the camera views and that the mission objectives are straightforward, I noticed some actors and vehicles that appears out of thin air in front of the player's eyes and it can detract the gameplay, particularly in missions 1 and 4.

JOURNEY To unknown City

- Length:Very Good. The mission lasts 9 minutes. Robinson is going to help Carl to get away for his criminal troubles.

- Difficulty:Hard. This is multipoint mission, most of them involve gunfights in different locations. Watch out for those minigun enemies, it's the hardest part and you must avoid them, along with the cops from scripted wanted levels.

- Variety:Very Good. The actors include Robinson (Sweet), Carl (CJ), the security guards, the boat captains and important actors as normal enemies such as the cloned OGLocs. The vehicle include Robinson's car, a boat, a cabby and the enemies cars. The objects include construction fences. The weapons include mp5, ak47, sniper, rocket launcher, shotgun, homing launcher and miniguns.

THE JOURNEY SAGA Chapter:2

- Length:Short. The mission lasts 3 minutes. Carl's friends are involved into a bar dispute with some local rival gangs. Carl must save them and kill the aggressors.

- Difficulty:Normal. Despite having only 10 bullets of a desert eagle gun. There's only 2 pistol enemies with average accuracies and low health. However you have 2 and a quarter minutes to do the job or you will fail the mission. So kill them quick and you should be able to pass it.

- Variety: Good. The actors include Zero, Robin (Sweet), Carl (CJ), Marty, Big Smoke, Ryder and some local thugs. The vehicle includes the thugs's car. The objects are integrated with the bar interior. The weapons include the pool cue, pistol and desert eagle gun.

Son 2 Dad

- Length:Very Short. The mission lasts 2 minutes. Carl's mother is calling him to pick up his dad from Unity Station to his house.

- Difficulty:Very Easy. No gunfights involved here. Just drive from point A to point B and so on. The only way to die is if you make intentional accidents or crimes.

- Variety:Decent. The actors include Carl, his mom and dad. The vehicle include Carl's bike and his mom's car. Although there's objects, they're mostly integrated with the mom's house interior. No weapons are found in this mission.

Live Life Alone

- Length:Decent. The mission lasts 4 minutes. Carl's friends are telling Carl and his sister Katy to escape Los Santos by train, because the cops want their heads.

- Difficulty:Very Hard. You're driving a car while going through checkpoints. But it's no easy task because the enemies can shoot at you car, that the car doesn't have much health and the checkpoints are very small, which means you have to drive slowly to register them. On top of that, you can't exit the car, so you have to rely on your luck to make your enemies shoot less as possible at you in order to survive this mission.

- Variety: Good. The actors include Carl, Robinson, Ryder, Big Smoke, Zero, Katy and some agents. The vehicles include the taxi cab and the agents car. Although there's objects, they're mostly integrated with the residential interior. The weapons include the mp5.

Overall, this mission series is straighforward. The writing should be more polished, and I'm pretty sure that the author could do this well seeing that his mission description pages seem to be more detailed. And the fourth mission should be more bearable to play as an average player will likely get very annoyed at the armed roadblock part of the mission, not to mention of the tiny checkpoints. Otherwise, keep up for more. biggrin.gif

Hello everyone,

Today I'm reviewing a mission named ''Contigency'' designed by ''lee_atsugai''. It is a part of the Crisis of 2016: Rage of Task Force 141

Let's get down to business.

Writing: Excellent, no grammar mistakes nor errors could be found.

Presentation: Very good, the cutscens are well placed and well timed.

Length: Good, it can be completed in around 5-8 minutes, depends on the player's skills. In this mission, player will control Sgt. Calvin and witnessed the aftermath after the missiles were lauched. Then, the player will control Captain Price, showing how the missiles were launched.

Variety: Very good. The mission contains Rhino, Patriot, and other vehicles, 6-8 different actors (skins), a lot of objects, and four weapons.

Difficulty: Hard. The mission is quite hard especially the part where the player has to sneak past the warehouse. Many guards were placed technically everywhere, so unless the player observes their paths carefully, they might unknowningly bump into a guard. Also a lot of guards are up, so the player needs to watch out for them. After the warehouse, it should get much easier as you only needed to shoot your way out of it. What makes it harder is there was only one health pick up and no armour.

This is my first review, thank you for reading

Hello everyone,

Today im reviewing the first 6 missions of Way to Heaven designed by Spider262.

Let's get down to business.

-Writing: Could be better. A lot of grammar mistakes. Hard to understand the story.

-Presentation: Decent. The cutscenes is well placed, but not very well timed, as there are too many texts but too little time to read them all

Intro

-Length: Short. This mission lasts for around 1-2 minutes. The mission shows the LS-LV highway with some fire, wrecked vehicles, dead bodies and officers. After that it shows a cereal commercial, then introduces who's Frank (not too clear)

-Difficulty: Very easy. This is a cut-scene only mission, no action took place.

-Variety: Good. There were 7 actors (skins)(not sure), many vehicles and 2 aircrafts (I think)

WTH: Joining police

-Length: Good. This mission lasts for around 5-6 minutes. Frank's mom tells the story about Frank's past, in this mission, how he joined the police.

-Difficulty: Easy. Just contains some driving, so this mission is pretty much straightforward. No actions were involved.

-Variety: Good. There were 8 actors (skins), 1 vehicle, 1 object.

WTH: Joining police 2

-Length: Very good. The mission lasts for around 7-8 minutes. Frank is going to do the LSPD test.

-Difficulty: Medium. There were some actions regarding a shooting test and a driving test. The player has to kill the armed target (dummy). The more you kill, the tougher it gets. But this should be easy since you have other applicants to help you out. After shooting test, you have to enter a cruiser and follow a driving tester to the checkpoint then head back for your papers and clothes.

-Variety: Good. The actors include some LSPD testers (Bike cop, normal cop and a SWAT), some applicants. The vehicles include a Bravura, a Landstalker and a police cruiser. The objects include a working table.

WTF: President in State

-Length: Excellent. The mission lasts for around 10+ minutes. Frank received a call from the LSPD and was told to escort the SA president to meet the VC president. The meeting didn't go well and Frank dropped the president at home, then returned to his house.

-Difficulty: Easy. Nothing should be hard in this mission. All the player's got to do is to drive to LSPD, then pick up the helicopter, fly to LV airport, then to the president's place, then land down the airport, then drive the president to the VC president, then drive him home. Nothing too hard eh? If you are suck at flying, then it should be quite frustating, but if you are pro at it, then this mission is a walk in a park.

My personal opinion: I think this mission is unrealistic. It's the president you are talking about, and the LSPD handed the president to a ROOKIE. They should have handed it to their finest guy in the department.

WTH: VC war

(Sorry I cannot review this, my GTA SA is f*cked up when I play this mission)

WTH: After VC war

-Length: Very good. The mission lasts for around 10+ minutes. SA and VC is having a war and Frank was ordered to take some photos of it.

-Difficulty: Medium. The player will have to drive through the desert to get to the battlefield with Quadbike and the distance is somewhat far. There are a lot of trees in the way so you have to watch out (if you take the upper route), or if you take the street (farther), it should be easier just a bit.

-Variety: Decent. The actors include the army soldiers, three officers, and two kidnappers (or something like that) at the end of the mission. The vehicles include a Quadbike and 2-3 Hydras (based on the shadows)

Overall, it wasn't such a good mission pack. The story was hard to understand and the English was quite bad. But the gameplay is somewhat entertaining and easy, good for players that is tired of shootings and want to relax a little bit.

Hello everyone,

Today I am reviewing Chapter 1 - Back into sand of The Desert Tales mission pack designed by SatournFan

Let's get down to business.

-Writing: Very good. I have not noticed a grammar mistake or a typo (not yet I guess). Everything was well written, which makes the story is very easy to understand.

-Presentation: Good. The cutscenes was well placed and well timed. Beside cutscenes, nothing really suprised me (so far I guess).

Back to homeland

-Length: Short. This mission lasts for around 1-2 minutes. The mission shows the countryside, the main character's homeland.

-Difficulty: Very easy. This is a cutscene-only mission. No action took place.

-Variety: Decent. The mission contains 4 actors (skins). The vehicles include a taxi. No objects were found.

Return to sender

-Length: Decent. The mission lasts for around 4-5 minutes. A guy owes Joe some money and Dan will help him retrieve it.

-Difficulty: Easy. Nothing too hard in this mission. The player will drive to the debtor's house in Las Payasadas (or something like that), beat him up, then retrieve the cash and drive back to Joe's place.

-Variety: Good. The mission contains 4 actors (skins). The vehicles include a Bravura. The pickups include a baseball bat, health and the money bag. No objects were found

Digging under

-Length: Decent. The mission lasts for around 4-5 minutes. A guy is snitching about the clan, and Joe asked Dan to take care of him.

-Difficulty: Easy. There should be nothing hard in this mission. The player will drive to the snitch's location nearby, then kill the snitch and Yakuza's henchmen.

-Variety: Good. The actors include Joe, the snitch, and Yakuza's henchmen. The vehicles include a Bravura. The pickups include a pistol, baseball bat and health pickup. No objects were found.

Drug streams

-Length: Decent. The mission lasts for around 4-5 minutes. The clan's drug delivery is prepared, and Joe asked Dan to deliver it to their hideout.

-Difficulty: Medium. This mission is quite challenging. The player will drive a drug van to the clan's hideout (Toreno's ranch) while being chased by Gargato Family's bikers. Since the van is big and slow, it'll be hard to shake them off. If you get lucky, they might crash themselves into the cars on the road. If you not then... well, good luck

-Variety: Good. The actors include Gargato Family's bikers and the clan's member. The vehicles include a van (forgot the name) and some bikes. The pickups include a health pickup and a baseball bat. The objects include a notebook.

Laying low

-Length: Good. The mission lasts for around 5-6 minutes. Joe sent a group to meet with the Demons MC, but the group hasn't returned yet, so Joe asked Dan to investigate.

-Difficulty: Medium. This mission is easy, nothing too hard. The player will drive to Verdant Meadows (Abandoned airfield). Once there, the player will see the clan's group is being ambushed by Demons MC, and the players will have to kill them all. Once the Demons are all killed, drive the group back to Aldea Mavalda (or something like that)

-Variety: Good. The actors include Joe, the clan's members, and the Demons MC members. The vehicles include a Landstalker and two Freeways. The pickups include a body armour, a pistol, a baseball bat and a health pickup. The objects include three crates.

Meeting at the ruins

-Length: Decent. The mission lasts for around 4-5 minutes. Joe has a meeting with Peter in Aldea Malvada (or something like that) and Joe asked Dan to come with him.

-Difficulty: Easy. The player will drive to Aldea Malvada, Peter's new hideout. After the meeting, the player will drive Joe home.

-Variety: Good. The actors include Joe, Peter, and clan's members (a lot of 'em). The vehicles include a Bravura. The pickups include a health pickup, a baseball bat and a pistol. The objects include a sofa.

Disposable hero

-Length: Very good. This mission lasts for around 7-9 minutes. Joe found a supply storage of Gargoto Family and he asked Dan to go raid it.

-Difficulty: Hard. First you will pick up Joe's man at Aldea Malvada, then drive to Bayside docks, where Gargato storage is. Once you are inside the storage, then you will have to make your way to the main storage. On the way there are a lot of guards, so you must watch out.

-Variety: Very good. The actors include Joe, Joe's man, Gargato Family's guards (helluva lot of 'em). The vehicles include a Bravura. The objects include three fences (I don't know what it's called), and a destroyable door. The pickups include a body armour, a MP5, a baseball bat, a pistol, two health pickups, and a briefcase (supply).

Yakuza on my right

-Length: Good. This mission lasts for around 5-6 minutes. A Yakuza group called ''Fixing group'' has been crushing the clan's deliveries to the Triads, and Peter wants Dan to finish the ''Fixing group'' off.

-Difficulty: Medium. You will drive to Peter's hideout, and meet Peter. After that, you must drive to the clan's former hideout, and take out all ''Fixing group'' members there. After that, just drive back to the clan's hideout.

-Variety: Good. The actors include two Clan's guards (day off I guess) at the clan's hideout, Peter, and ''Fixing group'' members. The vehicles include a Bravura. No objects were found. The pickups include a pistol, a Micro SMG, a health pickup and a baseball bat.

Overall, it was a good mission pack. Recommend it for anyone tired of cities and wanna try out some desert actions. Nice job on this MP Satourn.

(Will review chapter 2 soon)

Hello everyone. Today, I'm going to review 4 missions from a mission series called Rescue the President by ramonce09. The link leading to the missions:
http://dyom.gtagames.nl/show/24856

Here's the review:

Writings: Very Good - I didn't see any writing mistakes in the missions.
Presentation: Good - There are only a few cutscenes in the missions. Most of them have good angles and good timing.

Rescue the President: Part One
Length: Decent - It can be done in 3 minutes. The player need to defend the base from the incoming enemies.
Difficulty: Easy - The mission should be easy if you choose to provide overwatch from the platforms. The enemies have low health with medium/high accuracy, and their headshots are turned on.
Variety: Very Good - The base consist of a lot of objects and I love it. There are also a lot of actors and a few vehicles used for this mission. The enemies also used a lot of weapons too.

Rescue the President: Part Two
Length: Short - It can be done in 2 to 3 minutes. This time, the player need to clear Grove Street from the enemies.
Difficulty: Easy - Most of the enemies are in a far distance from you. It's easy to kill them with your sniper rifle, since they have low health and low to medium accuracy (except for one enemy). Their headshots are still turned on.
Variety: Good - There are a lot of objects used in this mission, and a good amount of actors, vehicles and weapons.

Rescue the President: Part Three
Length: Too Short - I finished it in less than one minute. Now, the player must search the president in Sweet's house.
Difficulty: Very Easy - The mission only consists of walking around the house and cutscenes. No action involved.
Variety: Could be Better - There are only 4 actors, one weapon and a car in this mission.

Rescue the President: Ending the Chase
Length: Short - It can be done in 3 minutes. Along with the president and Sweet, the player need to get them to safety.
Difficulty: Easy - The mission should be easy if the player enter the car from the passenger seat (Since I died once from entering the car from the driver seat). The rest of the mission only consists of driving around Los Santos. (With the enemies in pursuit, of course)
Variety: Good - A good amount of actors, vehicles and weapons are used in this mission.

The missions are somehow too easy and too short to play. But, there's one thing I love from the missions, the way the author arranged those objects in the first mission, it's awesome. :^: It gives the player choices to eliminate the enemies directly or from the top of the platform. And also, the author could've merge the second and third mission into a mission, instead of making them into separate missions. About the last mission, it's annoying that I have to wait for a few seconds for the next checkpoint to show up because of the spawning actors, cars, and objects. The author could've spawn them all before the chase started. He need to improve on his future missions. But still, good missions and don't give up! :D

You may review my mission http://dyom.gtagames.nl/show/28141 it's has some mistakes but I can't fix em, I'm too stupid because i have removed the mission and now I can't remake it. But I think is fun, because it has war ambient, and not just shooting and shooting like in some missions. I was thinking this mission to upload on DYOM #7 contest but as I said I deleted the mission and now I'm f*cked up.
