DYOM Mission Reviews

Recommended Posts

Platinum Card

Thanks Aznkei! I'll try to add a bit more length to the missions in chapter 2. The problem seems to be having enough cut-scenes to tell the story and enough game-play to accommodate the scenes.

Hey everyone,

I'm reviewing the 6 first missions of Zombies Venturas, a mission series made by Akshay2001.

It can be downloaded at: http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=23256

Now, into the review:

- Writing: Decent. They're generally well written, but at the same time they're somewhat rushed with missing capital letters and the lack of punctuations. Not to mention that most are short dialogues being repeated many times.

- Presentation: Good. Having a zombie apocalypse theme, it does pretty well a good job. There's a lack of traffic other than zombies and the main character's (Markey) crew. Although there's alot of repeated vehicles such like the motorbikes from the rail shooting missions.

Intro

- Length:Very Short. The mission lasts 2 minutes. The mission shows a laboratory which will soon triggers the zombie apocalypse. Meanwhile, a school class from Liberty City wants to go to a trip in Las Venturas.

- Difficulty:Very Easy. This is a cutscene only mission. Once the cutscene is done, you pretty much passed the mission.

- Variety: Good. The actors include the laboratory crew, the school teacher and Markey's class crew with about over 10 different students. The vehicle includes the school bus. The weapon includes the rocket launcher.

Weird City

- Length:Very Short. The mission lasts 2 minutes. Once at Las Venturas, Markus's class crew noticed the lack of activity going on in the city. Despite that, their bus heads to Caligulas Casino.

- Difficulty:Very Easy. This is a cutscene only mission. Once the cutscene is done, you pretty much passed the mission.

- Variety: Could be better. The actors includes the bus driver. The vehicle includes the school bus. That's it.

Starting of the adventure

- Length:Short. The mission lasts 3 minutes. Once at Caligulas Casino, the teacher tells his students to wait outside the main entrance. Later, Markey saw his death by zombies inside the casino. The class crew flees the place and looks for firearms.

- Difficulty:Very Easy. The only action to do is to escape the interior of Caligulas's Casino. But since the interior is big and there's a lack of enemies, the escape is pretty much straightforward.

- Variety: Good. The actors include the zombies as normal middle-aged pedestrians, the school teacher and Markey's class crew with about over 10 different students. The vehicle includes the school bus. The weapon includes the rocket launcher.

Ammu Nation madness

- Length:Very Short. The mission lasts 2 minutes. Markey's class crew heads up to the local AmmuNation store to fetch up some weapons. However the interior is infected with zombies.

- Difficulty:Easy. The zombies attack Markey with golf clubs. The player just have to grab the M4 to kill them, not to mention that the enemies can be headshotted.

- Variety: Good. The actors include the zombies as normal middle-aged pedestrians and Markey's class crew with about over 10 different students. The weapon include the gold club, the rocket launcher and the M4. The vehicles include the motorbikes and the school bus.

Street defence

- Length:Decent. The mission lasts 4 minutes. Markey's class crew exits the local AmmuNation store only to be ambushed with waves of armed zombies with motorbikes.

- Difficulty:Normal. This is a rail shooting mission, where the player sit as a vehicle passenger seat to aim the enemies. The zombies mainly attack Markey with micro-uzi. It's quite confusing to differentiate between the zombies and your class crew if it wasn't for the enemy target markers in the middle of a motorbike carnage. Not to mention the wanted level is enabled. However, you can kill all the enemies as long you aim them well.

- Variety: Good. The actors include the zombies as normal middle-aged pedestrians and Markey's class crew with about over 10 different students. The weapon include the micro-uzi and the M4. The vehicles include the motorbikes.

Going back to Liberty City

- Length:Very Short. The mission lasts 2 minutes. Markey's class crew exits their temporarily safehouse on

Thanx i will try To improve this smile.gif

Well,I am grateful for all your support biggrin.gif Thanks

Anyways I am reviewing another mission "The Criminal" made by Ravenclaw due to his request.

The link to the mission can be found here: http://dyom.gtagames.nl/show/24253

Now, the review

Writing:Excellent,They were written very well, All I could notice was a Spelling error. I loved how Ravenclaw used texts to highlight certain objectives.usually, I am not a fan of colored text. But Ravenclaw's use of colored text was Supefantastifabulous biggrin.gif

Presentation:Very good,All the cutscene angles were precise and Didn't Miss the mark. But I still didn't understand why the protogonist jumped of the building biggrin.gif.Loved the police escape on the bridge.

Length:Excellent,Wow, one of the longest mission I have ever played.(love long misssions)

Difficulty:Very Hard, Don't Understand why most of the mission I review are Harder than hell.I Still dont know how I finished this Mission.Got pwned by CJ on first try.Got Pwned by guards on 2nd and 3rd try, pwned by the explosions on the 4th try. Pwned by the guards again on 5th try.but 6th time is a charm. (I made that up)If u think u are kick-ass enough give this mission a try.

Variety:Excellent,The guards had different skins, weapons, accuracy and health. My favourite Skin for the protogonist

Overall this mission is tons of fun and (sometimes) make you want to throw you keyboard and ragequit. I always went for mission packs and not single missions, Not anymore. If Ravenclaw is going on to make a mission pack.We are in for a Great designer

Guys, i thought of changing the review system a bit, at least the looks. To be honest, the current rating system fits only for single missions rather than mission-packs and storylines, so this could work to sum up a review instead of doing a mission-by-mission one (which takes alot of time) that's why i thought of changing some of the ratings, i took the design from IGN's review system, mind the ratings.

Rating Description
Out of 10
7.5 Presentation

Kind of mix of the original Presentation and Variety. Basicaly, it's about the writing and the quality of the missions (object positioning, variety and fit actors, etc)

7.5 Story

Self-explanatory, a rating about the story. The genre, characters, personality, twists...

7.5 Length

How long the mission/storyline lasts.

7.5 Gameplay

Pretty clear. Depends on the genre and the difficulty of the mission

7.5 Lasting Appeal

This is exactly the same as the short summary in the old reviews.

7.5

Overall

Good

(Out of 10)

Credits to GunWrath and KaRzY6 for the table.

We could also add an optional Sound rating if needed, or a short section to show screenshots. I hope you like it, i know it maybe a bit complicated when making it with all those table tags.

@GURI BIRRING: This is not a topic for DYOM tutorials. Besides, as said before it will be published as soon as possible.

Hi there. Thanks for support, AznKei. smile.gif

I am reviewing a mission named "Impounded" designed by "Chips237". It is a part of the The Beta Missions of GTA San Andreas.

It can be downloaded from - http://dyom.gtagames.nl/show/25362

Now, the review.

PRESENTATION:

Writing: Excellent. Dialogues are very nicely constructed and really match the characters. Instructions to the player are also mentioned clearly. 9.999 out of 10 from my side!

Cutscenes: Excellent. Most of the mission is made of cutscenes, so they have to be good. And actually, they are excellent. Good work by the designer there! icon14.gif

GAMEPLAY:

Difficulty: Easy/Normal. (Depends on your skill). Being a mission related to Cesar, it is concerned with driving. The player has to get back his car from the impound and has to avoid the 4 star wanted acquired while going back to Cesar's place. If your driving is really poor, this can be a challenge. But for most players, this is easy. Difficulty: 4/10

Duration: Short. Being a moderate chase and provided with a sports-car, this isn't a long mission. The length is reduced due to more usage of cutscenes. But it's absolutely fine.

Variety: I don't feel any need to mention about variety because there's only 3 main characters and the police. But the various animations for the characters used are very good and well-timed. Nice car CJ's got there! biggrin.gif

SUMMARY: Overall, the mission is very enjoyable. It gave me a feeling that the mission is actually a part of the original storyline. Everything was up to the mark. Very good work by the designer! smile.gificon14.gif

P.S. - A minor error which I noticed : The designer has forgot to put Cesar as "must survive".

Hey everyone,

I'm reviewing the first 4 missions of The Last of Us, a mission series made by HarrisonWest.

It can be downloaded at: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?act=ST&...entry1062419315

Now, into the review:

- Writing: Excellent. They're pretty much written accurately. They might be some small mistakes but that might be some quick typo than how the author generally writes his missions.

- Presentation: Very Good. Having a zombie apocalypse theme even though it seems to be another lethal disease. Still, it does pretty well a good job. There's a lack of traffic other than the infected people and the main character's (Tom) crew. Although the author should use another actor than just the army model for both allies and enemies during the first mission.

A prologue to a new bloody chapter

- Length:Very Short. The mission lasts 2 minutes. Tom's was once a soldier fighting in a war. Later, he retired and takes his daughter Sara to the beach.

- Difficulty:Easy. There's some gunfights during the war flashback. Fortunately the enemies don't have very good accuracies and are distracted with your allies.

- Variety: Good. The actors includes the army soldier, casual Tom and Sara. The vehicle includes the crate truck and Tom's Jeep. The objects include crates. The weapons include M4s.

Wildfire

- Length:Short. The mission lasts 3 minutes. Tom and Sara are on the beach when they got attacked by the fungus infected people.

- Difficulty:Easy. The enemies only carry a knife, but are usually in decent numbers. Also, the player can use a country rifle to kill them, although with limited ammo.

- Variety: Good. The actors includes Tom, Sara and the infected pedestrians. The vehicle includes Tom's Jeep. The objects include chairs. The weapons include the country rifle and knife.

No more room in hell

- Length:Decent. The mission lasts 4 minutes. Overwhelmed, Tom and Sara leave the beach with the essential items from the cabin and head up to Angel Pine.

- Difficulty:Easy. The action is similar to the last mission (Wildfire) but with the defenseless Sara in your way, so don't kill her.

- Variety: Good. The actors includes Tom, Sara and the infected pedestrians. The vehicle includes Tom's Jeep. Although there's objects, they're mostly integrated with the residential interior. The weapons include the country rifle and knife.

A new home

- Length:Very Short. The mission lasts 2 minutes. A local Angel Pine survivor named Nathan help to bring Tom and Sara into his refuge. There they meet other survivors and think for their next plans.

- Difficulty:Very Easy. This is a cutscene mission only. Once the player went through of this, he will get the mission passed message.

- Variety: Decent. The actors includes Tom, Sara, Nathan and the other 2 survivors Mira and Bailey. Although there's objects, they're mostly integrated with the residential interior. The weapons include the shotgun.

Overall, this mission series is simple but the interesting storyline keeps us to know what will happen next. Because the missions are simple and straightforward, the length of those mission do suffer and some missions can be put together into a larger one without too much trouble. Otherwise, I can wait to play more of those missions, including those who are already published. Keep up the great work biggrin.gif
