I'm curious: I keep seeing pictures of Volvo's and Saabs and Yank Tanks with people swooning about how amazing they are and others just don't get what they're on about.

 

For me, it's the Focus. I'd give anything to have a 2010 one just like this:

Yes, I know it's a small economy car that most people wouldn't give a second glance, but to me it's one of the best looking cars on the road.

 

I was just wondering what you guys liked that you would own in a heartbeat but would make other people question why on earth you bought one.

I actually like the focus. My parents have one and it is fun to drive, but then again anything can be fun to drive if your first car was a 2001 Dodge Caravan. But i actually really like the car.

*cough*srt4's but no I have always liked the hatchback escorts from the 90's, as well as saabs however that obsession has died down after driving one. The car no one agrees with me on is the z31 style 300zx. Sure it looks like a stereotypical wedge racer, but good lord do I rubberneck everytime I see one. They are sooo underrated.

The Mk3 Toyota MR2. Yes they look unbelievably girly and have no good engine options in the UK market, but they're still a riot to drive- much like the MX-5 really- underpowered, RWD, girly baby RWD sports cars that are actually great to drive.

 

I'm also ashamed to put the MG F and MF TF in that group. They're crap, everyone knows they're crap, but they're at least a bit fun whilst they're crap.

There is actually a small group around the internet that is in to them. However, the mods they do to them are extremely ugly and embarrass me as a Beretta fan, even more so. The body kits are very rice ,retarded curves/shapes, hood scoops, angel eye head lights, retarded rims, etc. I'd love one like in the picture above, super clean.

@The General, my dad as a '99 Grand Caravan, so I feel your pain.

 

@Tuff, I can see where you're going with the z31, the z32 is my favorite Z car, though. Twin turbo "276 horsepower" (more like 330, they fudged it a little bit). Basically all the 90's tuner cars were awesome, but so much better in stock form than with a picnic table strapped to the back and bodywork that couldn't go over a pebble.

It's just a shame the engine bay was so crowded they were impossible to work on. That's why they fell into the hands of the "fast and spurious" modders who have killed most of them off. A sad end to a very good car.

US market Z32 twin turbos were rated at 300 hp which, considering our emissions equipment at the time compared to the rest of the world, is probably dead on.

 

Can't really think of too many cars I like that don't have a decent fanbase unless they're just incredibly unknown. Nothing really outright hated by everyone.

Opel Astra Coupe. Simple yet very attractive design, reasonable prices, not overloaded with electronics. That's what I would like for the first car icon14.gif

I have to agree with you I love the ford focus and i didn't even know about that one, but another car i like that nobody else seems to is the dodge neon srt-4 everyone thinks it is the same as the chrysler neon but its not, it has a new, better engine

It's a badge engineered version of the same f*cking car- I've already shown you link to the fact it is.

Dodge Neon = Chrysler Neon = Plymouth Neon with a few differences in trim/colors.

 

The SRT-4 is not the same as the neon, though. It's the same car with a turbo and a different suspensions and other go-faster bits. That's like saying the Impreza is the same as the WRX or WRX STI.

I think there is some confusion here. What GTA3Karuma was trying to say (I'm assuming) is that the SRT-4 is not the same as the regular Neon, I guess he thinks that dodge doesn't also make a dodge neon (non-srt4), and that dodge ONLY makes the SRT-4.

 

That aside, the difference between SRT versions of both Neon and Caliber are downright apples to oranges. Everything from major stuff like transmissions, engine, suspension/wheels, to plastic doorhandles and interior pieces.

 

You simply could not take an SRT-4 to a repair shop and order non-SRT-4 parts %90 of the time.

 

The reason being is the Neon and Caliber are to be quite honest the "Rental Car" category and need A LOT more work to be "competitive" with the rest of the line-up.

I'm a fan of eighties hatchback coupes in general, but the Starion/Conquest really takes the cake. It's a shame they're f*cking impossible to find in decent condition.

That said, I've been driven in a TR7 convertible with a 5L TVR Chimera engine, that's probably why. Infact, that's mostly why. tounge.gif

I had to gut the interior of a TR8 we were restoring at a job once. Had a food of stagnant water in the floorboards. Wasn't all that fun. The TR7 gets a lot of flack just for having such a sh*tty engine. The TR8 was everything the 7 should have been. And they made less than a few grand of those.

To me it sounds like he's making the claim that in some way the engine in a Dodge SRT-4 is better than than in a Chrysler car of the same name (I.E SRT-4), which he implied in other threads previously- when I've corrected him, he's been insistent that the Dodge-built SRT-4 are in some way different from those with the Chrysler badge on the front, despite the fact they're exactly the f*cking same.

Another one I've though of- the VW Beetle RSi. Most people think it's just a bug with a bodykit, but in reality it's a lightened Golf R32. Very successful in the VW Cup races.

My dad's told me many stories about his white TR7 he had many moons ago, before I was around. SAC 111R, I think the number plate was.

Ford Mondeo ST24/ST200 (ST200 pictured)

 

Always loved these since my dad had an ST24 estate about 5 years ago, sounds pretty sick for a Mondeo in all fairness
