XBOX 360 Slim

i have to admit i was skeptical about getting a 360 because of no WiFi and things of that nature, but now i think i wanna get it. The xbox 360 slim is shipping right now and will be in stores later this week. It has built in WiFi (thankfully) and is quieter and (of course) slimmer. Its weird because Microsoft just announced it and at the same time said it is currently shipping.

I'm sure they meant shipping as in it is shipping to retailers. Not to individual owners.

You can't get it yet. There's no known picture of it even, as far as I can see.

leik oh em jeez!
There's a good chance this one is legit; it ws apparently a removed advert. The article link is: http://www.destructoid.com/e3-10-rumor-xbo...rs-176270.phtml

Not only does that look to be the same length and width, but it only appears to have dropped 1/2", maybe 3/4" max in thickness.

Seems like it would be a waste to pay the R&D dept. for that small of a change, then pay to change your equipment to manufacture the new case/hardware. Not to mention the original looks a lot better.

speaking of natal, it is being shipped or is getting ready to ship (I forget which it was) and it's called Kinect.

Hopefully this one won't break as easily as the other ones tounge.gif

It was confirmed to be using the same X Clamp as the original. I presume that means it will overheat just a fast as the original (if not faster due to all the components being packed into a smaller case)

Cool, thats my part time business not down the drain then.

Although i read that they took the red lights away so there will be no more RRoD.

The newer processor uses around 70 watts less than the 2005 360. The latest "old" 360's used around 150 watts and the new slim only uses 135. That's less than the higher-end AMD Phenom processors by themselves, so the overheating issue is hopefully a thing of the past.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the overheating issues was caused by the GPU, wasn't it? I know they added a heatpipe with another small heatsink to the GPU in some of the later versions, which seemed to help somewhat with the overheating issues.

And with the new version being slimmer, I consider Microsoft to be jackasses. Why not just put in a slim laptap-style dvd drive with room for a full-sized heatsink under it in the original case?

Looks like overheating may still be an issue :-

The Xbox 360 Slim which was announced and released during this year’s E3 might already be having problems.

Images have been discovered on a Forum showing an Xbox 360 Slim with the “Red Dot of Death”- It’s the same as the Red Ring of Death- The Forum, NeoGaf has not confirmed whether or not the images are 100% real, but the images posted show one of the Xbox 360 Slim with the RDOD, and another image showing the error message on the Dashboard.

So bye bye red ring of death and hello red dot of dismay.
