The show never lived up to the quality of the premiere episode. Never. The rest of the season was up and down, cool and lame, gripping and dull. And the goddamn nursing home episode was easily the worst of the bunch. No more like that, ever. Please. That episode, in my mind, needed to have a violent, Reservoir Dogs ending shootout. Anything other than what it was.

On the note of the samurai-chick character, if I'm not mistaken Kirkman said she won't appear until season 3, and he's not sure if the Governor will make an appearance this season.

Good thing first season only had 6 episodes. I'm not sure it would be renewed for the second season if they continued like that. First episode was mindblowing.

Oh, so they're throwing stuff around even more? Good stuff. Maybe they won't even kill off Shane.

Frank Darabont has apparently bailed on the show.

Sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Darabont, the creator, executive producer and director of the zombie hit based on the comics by Robert Kirkman, is stepping down as showrunner. Whether the former feature film director will stay on with the series remains unclear.

Wow. Funny thing is, if they stuck to the comic instead of trying to create a brand new epic setpiece for every f*cking episode, they could get away with a smaller budget.

This does not bode well. Showrunner splitting as the show goes into production? Get ready for more nursing homes and government conspiracies, guys. Instead of the Breaking Bad of horror, we'll be handed b-movie plots on a platter.

Hoping against hope that this was a case of Kirkman fighting for more creative control after seeing the backlash against the sh*tty episodes. But not holding my breath.

SO, it turns out Frank Darabont didn't walk away from the show, he was stone cold FIRED.

When Frank Darabont appeared on a Comic-Con panel July 22 to promote The Walking Dead, he didn't realize he was a dead man walking. Neither did the cast and crew. Everyone was shocked when news broke three days later that AMC had taken the extraordinary step of firing Darabont from the network's biggest ratings hit.

In hot, sticky Atlanta, where production on the second season had been under way since June, the cast was summoned to a lunch meeting with AMC vp scripted programming Ben Davis, who confirmed that Darabont was out. The crew was briefed separately. One insider says those gathered were stunned at "the duplicity of AMC" for having used Darabont to promote the show at Comic-Con before firing him. And they were angry about the lack of explanation; they were simply told, cryptically, "This isn't working." Above all, they were disheartened. "It's a crushing blow," says the insider. "Even when you have a hit, they can still destroy you."

Darabont -- like many showrunners, not known for a small ego or manageable temperament -- had been working on an edit in Los Angeles. After he was sent packing, he returned to give some final notes. He sent farewell e-mails to  associates on the show. But he has maintained a steady silence in the media as his representatives work out the terms of his departure. Through his lawyer, Darabont said he has no interest in talking to the press.

There also have been no public comments from the cast, and a source with knowledge of the situation says AMC has been "terrorizing" them and their representatives to discourage them from speaking out on Darabont's behalf. "They're scared," confirms another insider. "They're on a zombie show. They are all really easy to kill off."

AMC issued a statement after Darabont was dismissed, expressing gratitude for his "innumerable" contributions to the show. Asked to comment on criticism for the handling of his departure, a spokesperson said, "We have nothing further to add."

Fans of the dramas on AMC (Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead) should read this.

Looks like AMC just doesn't know how to handle success.

AMC is a f*cking joke. They could've at least waited until they were done with the second season, but no.

What a bunch of dipsh*ts.

Wow, AMC is run by morons.

I think at one point they were considering to slash Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead into half seasons to give Mad Men more money. I honestly wouldn't mind that because BB would get picked up by HBO or Showtime within the hour of AMC dropping it and The Walking Dead left a sour taste in my mouth. That's just me. What I don't get is how AMC could even consider slashing their two shows that people actually watch to give it to one that nobody watches. (EDIT: Apparently MM has more viewers than BB) From a business standpoint it just doesn't add up.

EDIT: Here's the article: http://articles.latimes.com/2011/aug/04/bu...ct-amc-20110804

TWD has gotten a $250k budget cut per episode this season, which means more really awful explosions!

Well that ending came out of f*cking nowhere. Nice to see that the prison sequence is confirmed, though.

Looks like a promising start to the new season. The dialog still makes me cringe a little though. I thought most of the writers were fired?

About halfway through. I understand the budget was slashed, but you'd think for a one location shoot they'd be able to fake a better magic hour. tounge.gif

And Laurie Holden's still acting from the Emoting for Dummies textbook, but eh... gotta love it so far. Some awesome gore and gnarly scenes. I think Dale's got to be the worst lookout in the history of reconnaissance. Glad he called it quits after a thousand zombie snuck up on him... was a pretty useless effort after all.

Gotta say, she looked milf-alicious tonight. And I don't think she's nearly as bad as you been saying since, forever.

And concerning the old man as a lookout... iknorite! Dude, they were like 8 feet from him. And he's got f*cking binoculars. Does not compute. At all.

I know, I give her a hard time. She's wasn't exactly terrible this episode, but I just can't take her seriously. I know she's working with stilted dialog, but still.

Anyhow, loved this episode. Not a fan of the goofy Jesus stuff, or the staring at a reindeer in wonder, but hell, loved it. Loved the preview, too, kinda makes me glad they (early comic spoiler) kept Shane around after all. Loved seeing him in his hat in the previews.

I also loved the later interview with Robert Kirkman about how differentiating from the comics is important to maintain the feeling that anyone can be killed, any time. That makes a lot of sense. I hope that doesn't mean they shy away from some of the best stuff in the comics... ie, Michonne.

I also wish this show was produced by HBO. Seriously disappointed by the lack of boobs and cussin'.

Finally, sh*t, it must be fun to work as a sound designer on this show.

I got vol. 1 of the comics today for half off from Comixology. So far I really like it. I think they did an excellent job translating it to a TV show.

I was talking with a bunch of guys while watching and they were all more or less convinced that the ending scene in the woods would be, you know, that scene. Seemed too early to me, though. I mean I don't doubt it'll happen, but just not this soon. I didn't even expect Carl to get shot this soon, let alone Shane.

Well that ending caught me by surprise. Some pretty gross scenes in it too, kind of glad I decided not to bring a snack with me.

Definitely gonna re-watch it a couple more times though. Good opener for season 2. smile.gif

I've never seen anything cornier than this episode. That whole Jesus thing was embarrassing. I have a feeling this show won't be renewed for third season. But I've been wrong once before.

That whole Jesus thing was embarrassing.

It was realistic, though. I mean, there are quite a lot of people who would turn to religion in a crisis situation like this, regardless of how they felt prior to the event. Besides, anyone who's familiar with the comic knows that in a way, the ending could be perceived an answer to Rick's prayers based on the events that follow.

I gotta say I thought that was a good start to the season, was quite a tense start to the episode with the horde walking between the cars, the ending certainly was unexpected.

I actually thought that they could have done better on the ending my self.

Sure, the situation was realistic. But the execution of that scene and the monologue were so terrible.

That is true, it felt a little forced. I was more bothered by the fact that the church wasn't absolutely swarmed with zombies, myself; one, because of the speakers on a timer, and two, because I guarantee you that church is the first place anyone down here would go to in an event like this. There could've at least been more corpses littered about.

I thought it was a little goofy that the zombies were all chillin' the f*ck out in the pews, practically dressed for church when they walked in, for a show that's presented a slightly more realistic take on a zombie apocalypse that just seemed a bit silly. The chick zombie with the veil really pushed it over the top and over sold it.

All in all, a pretty decent first episode, a little clunky on some of the dialog but genuinely tense at points as well.

erhhhmmmm, for those of you who have read the zombie survival guide would understand that IN THE EVENT of a zombie outbreak it is not all out of this world for a "zombie" to return to its natural habits. I.E a zombie who was once lets say a farmer in his past life would tend to his herd every day would almost do the same thing as a zombie. or if a human attended church every sunday for 52 weeks a year and i dont know for 40 years of its life, to return to this earth as a zombie hypothetically speaking it would make an a attempt to return to church every sunday just like it did its whole human life sort of like muscle memory or something like that.

so zombies hanging out in a little old church in the middle of no where is not at all out of the question.

and this is exactly what i like about this series, it doesn't take the whole zombie genre and invent some new B.S about it. I like the fact they attempt to be as stealthy and quiet as possible and not all gun-ho shooting off rounds attracting attention to themselves. yes the acting does make me a little sick to my stomach at times but this is about as legit of a zombie apocalypse we we'll ever see.

If you come back from the dead the part of your brain that made you "you" is dead with only some minor parts of your brain active that lets you live (only biologically). So you really couldn't come back and do what you did before you were infected because the infection only uses your body to live and not your whole being. That's confirmed in the last episode. The survival guide has no ties with the walking dead.

Although the show contradicts intself on that point (Morgan's wife coming back to their house), but yeah.
