There cannot be anything wrong with the game if the size of the installation is only 600 MB. It has got to do with the download from Steam. Get in touch with Steam and see what they have to say. Since your game is the Steam version it won't ask you for the disc, instead you get the 'No audio device' notification. There should be 197 files in total in your Audio folder. radioman Posted June 17, 2010 Share Posted June 17, 2010 This may be a silly question, but Do you have a Sound Card installed on your computer? AND is it working properly? Also, if your Sound Card is installed and is working properly, are the drivers for it up to date? If re-downloading it from Steam, are you sure your ISP is not timing out and preventing a complete download? Have you contacted your ISP AND Steam about the problem? Frenzy888 Posted June 19, 2010 Share Posted June 19, 2010 Got it fixed btw. it isnt the soundcard that is making this problem, but the last update Rockstar did through steam. there were 2 files missing SFX.raw and SFX.sdt luckely i still have the cd version lying downstairs so i copied them and got it working. Frenzy888 Posted June 27, 2010 Share Posted June 27, 2010 Fix: Copy the SFX.raw and SFX.sdt to your steam gta 3 audio folder folder ( usually steam/steamapps/common/grand theft auto 3/audio ) After this rename your GTA3.exe file to GTA3old and rename your testapp.exe to gta3.exe ( before this be sure to copy the testapp.exe to another folder and rename the testapp.exe to testappold, so incase you did something wrong you still have the files. And last thing: Be sure to turn auto update off in Steam. This caused the problem.. Go to the game list, and right click gta3. Then go to prefferences ( or however its called ) then click updates and select dont automaticly update this game. You CANNOT legally download any ORIGINAL game files(except for Steam and D2D-those are the only two LEGAL download sites), off the internet, as they are copyrighted. The only way to get the Original files is to BUY the game legally. III has two discs-one is the Play disc, and one is the Install disc. Just a heads up.
