Patch 1.0.6\7.0 - No shadows during fly? !

Jesus! This is terrible!

 

I was only driving cars since 1.0.6.0 update but noticed that render distance of shadows and object became very short and 10-20 meter far away cars have no shadows.

 

Now i was flying heli and noticed that THERE IS TOTALLY NO SHADOWS WHENEVER YOU FLY and despite this unacceptable cut of gfx quality comparing to previous version, Performance is worse!!!!

 

The only way you can see shadow when you fly heli - is to come like 50 meter to objects, only then any shadows will be visible!!

 

And its not just SHADOWS, it seems that dynamic lighting gets cut too at very close distance (comparint to pre 1.0.6.0).

buildings have no shadows, only some close trees have em, all the building and area around it have some kind of more static and "grey" simplified global lighting then when i get closer to it, shadows suddenly fade it (as well as objects pop-in) and ligting switched to more "colorful" and dynamic.

 

GTA 4 now have same problem as Assassin Creed 2 for PC (objects pop-ins, small render distance of shadows, etc).

 

I cant understan how amateur r* Toronto programmers must be (lol, internship of unexperienced just graduated coders in progress, huh?) , to cut half of rendered things from screen and instead of GAINing of performance get Degradation of it!

What the purprose to free 300 mb or RAM when you screw graphic quality and make performance even worse than before?

 

Rockstar Toronto, JUST RETURN pre 1.0.6.0 (aks 1.0.3.0-1.0.4.0) render pipeline in next patch and do it AS SOON AS IMPOSSIBLE aka VERY SOON, and stop you stupid "CUT everything to loose even more quality and performance" experiments on users!

 

Nobody freakin love what you done with gfx in patch 6 and 7!!!!!!

 

If you will not return cut features, well i must say that this is violation of European law Directive 1999/44/EC (US law have almost equal directive, google for it or ask your lawyer) which states:

 

 

The goods must:

 

comply with the description given by the seller and posses the same qualities and characteristics as other similar goods

be fit for the purpose which the consumer requires them and which was made known to the seller at the time of purchase.”

 

Now after patch 1.0.6.0 product quality and characteristics do not match to what was made known (and its without question lower quality) at the time of purchase back in 2008 (many of us bought it back then) and it do not fit anymore purposes we require.

(lol, Its comparable if like we paid for Car, and then after some repair works we received it with worse engine of some crappy old car, used no-name tires and some of details including chairs and mirrors was removed without our permission)

 

If Rockstar will not react to many consumers complains and will not return features that was cut and will not return quality level of graphics to initial level any soon, this may lead Consumer Group to sue Rockstar\T2.

If you guys dont want to see another lawsuit against Rockstar, please return everything as it was before!

 

P.S. - If someone want to get refund after this patch - call manager and quote this directive at EU stores or quote equal local law directive in your country.

Are you sure they are not there? maybe its because they pop in as soon as you are above them realy near.... Its not much possible that they are not there, it might be out of range or that they pop in like in my game as same as the other textures.

look at video 1st ask questions second)

 

i specialty rised distance settings up to 80 and still shadows wasnt rendered until you land your heli on road, its clearly visible on video!

 

i want pre 1.0.6.0 render technique back!

it`s true.. mine suffers this too....now GTA IV and EFLC features shadow distance which uncostumizable...give it a try to use medium shadow, you`ll notice the shadow rendered from bad to good quality in 10-20 meter...

worst thing that very hight shadows have shorter render distance and worse quality than pre 1.0.6.0 but despite visual downgrade very high shadow is 100% performance killer!

 

with it i only have 15 fps at my rig!

 

Intel core i7 920 @ 3.0ghz + ATI radeon HD 4890 1 gb ddr 5, + 4 gb DDR 3 ram (win 7)

 

before 1.0.6.0 i was able to play with very high shadows ( which looked much better ) at constant 50-60 fps!!!

ANd before 1.0.6.0 there was no pop-ins of low level LOD and other objects.

 

So patch is realy terrible and beyond any logic!

Rationality and all the rules of this universe says - "worse graphics = better performance\better gfx = worse performance", but Rockstar toronto braking all rules of universe and make odd rule "Worse graphics = worse performance\better graphics = better perfomance" come true!

THAT IS BECAUSE R* is lazy UNmad man to create good patches and this game is NOT for PC and is just a convert i think they converted game with simplest free useless convertors !!

f*ck the only things rockstar needed to do with 1.0.0.4 are:

 

1 - fix floating shadows and road elements

2 - make shadows do not suddenly disappear after 20:00

3 - fix final mission hellicopter jump bug which prevented player to get in if fps more than 30

4 - fix low distance of passenger in car to let us finally do sniper fun lik in old times

5 - add support of dlc

6 - fix ati flickering already

 

 

thats freaking it R*!!

 

Who the f*ck asked you to f*ck up render distance of everything and replace old shadows (which had only deffered render transparency problems which was unnoticeable at very high + blur on) we already used to withh ~50fps with some low res low distance jagged crap that vanish right under your nose and looks worse than early and cant even give more than 20 fps at TOP machines (and im not saying about totally incorrect lighting\shadowing of many places)

????

 

Who asked you to REMOVE RGSC which allowed us to start game without f*cking clicking everytime "Play" button and allowed us to see news and other useful crap?

Cant you just code it with pure C# without .Net crap to reduce its size and lags it causing?

 

Return old render technique\distance of shadows\lighting and object distance 1 to 1 as it was in patch 5 !!!

get your patch 5 sourcecode and just implements to it fixes listed above!!

they decrypted files in patch 1.1.2.0 of EFLC at first (1.1.1.0) we couldn't edit them but now we can

it seems to me that they are going to do same as you said cool.gif

the whole shadow not appearing until youre right next to it, seriously made me not like playing it anymore, i loved gta4 for the shadows not doing that sh*t, but now its messed up =[

God I love the internet, the only place where you can be a 12-year old ranting brat AND pretend to know something about the law...

Are you serious? RGSC always had you push "Play", now without RGSC we still have to push it except we got rid of a useless resource hog. I never bothered once with the "news and other useful crap" it displayed.

I saw shadows. you even landed in a shadow that I noticed. The trees and the billboards have shadows fine.

im not sure about your issues with shadows.

GTAIV always rendered shadows at a certain range and not before.

here's a helicopter footage from 2009

as u can see that there are no shadows on buildings either. never was when u were that high. once u get close - shadows fade in. that's just how it's been.

 

about performance - about THAT i cant debate since im usually playing on 1040. only EFLC are on 1060 on my machine and it's working OK i guess. yeah, highest shadows reduce frame rates like nobody's business but im not playing on shadows THAT high. in earlier patches i played on HIGH shadows and not more so it's hard for me to compare performace. it was crap either way tounge2.gif

 

and i dont think GTAIV is poorly optimized. i think the game settings are letting u set it higher than today's rigs can handle. it's not R*'s fault that some are biting mroe than they can chew. if u lower your res to 1080P and set details to medium than u can see it works and looks better than it does on consoles so what are we really complaining about? that we are given the options to take it that much farther?

 

the funnies thing is that ppl who dont know computer games always saying that crysis needs a 3000$ rig where in fact any modest one would do. it's GTAIV and ARAM2 that are pushing boundaries. not crysis (albeit gorgeous).

this video done on pretty low settings (so clearly visible pop ins) but actually now game looks almost same look at 100 \ 100 render distance and in same time performance is lower.

 

also even this video, despite low settings clearly shows much better render distance of shadows (look at cars their shadows dont disappear at 10-20 meters).

Also this video shows that there is no jagging of shadow edges and no 3 visible levels of details.

But in 1.06-1.07 u can clearly see 2 lines that sepparates levels of shadow distance.

 

I dont want to be rude, but you are blind or you are victim of Placebo effect, which was pretty common issue with many players around here, who was rejecting issues that others cant see and was sure that their game gaining performance with every patch, which wasnt truthm

We all asked R* to remove RGSC.

That program was damn annoying and to play the game, you had to play the game with RGSC

installed.

 

And next time R*, dont use the freaking Xbox/GFWL anymore!

Actually they removed one annoying thing with even more annoying!

 

Early if i input login and pass 1 time and save it I can click on game LInk, wait half of minute and be in game, when RSGC autolaunched in tray!

 

Now i f*cking need to click PLAY button after i already started GTA 4! Its more annoying than it was before! And with bigger level of annoy all the useful features (like perma link with autologin to RSGC site and R*TV site, and news with links to patches) now removed!

The game starts faster, you don't have to wait for all of the loading screens

 

 

 

 

there's loading screens, just not near as many. looks like they shaved about 10-20 seconds off of the 1 minute load time.

I am really sorry to bump this topic that is now approaching it's third year anniversary.

 

 

I just had the urge to post because i do believe this should be discussed more and everything OP said is more or less correct, I also discovered the same thing recently and i looked for solutions... found none ofcourse.

 

Ps. Rockstar did not only cut shadow range distance, they also removed the better overal sky and sun flare(bloom) as seen in trailer 1:

 

 

 

 

Brighter side of the story is that they can't f*ck up V too bad because it would equal in being worse than IV in terms of lighting, furthermore you can safely expect the godrays, bigger range of shadow and effect rendering as well as other improvements, not limited to mentioned ones from RDR and MP3

I first blamed myself and my computer but now I've upgraded there's no reason for GTA IV to be slow and ugly, yet it is.

 

Oh well. Better stick to 1.0.4.0 or 1.0.3.0, the best patches for both visuals, performance and modding.

I think you can disable all the fancy effects, and there are a few configurations with keep the default GTA IV feel.

I don't see what the big problem is-as IF you liked an earlier patch, all you have to do is revoke you license, un-install, delete the rest of the install directory that did not get deleted by the traditional un-install and then re-install and apply the patch that you like best...only takes about 30 minutes at most to do. Not hard at all, I must say-and worth it if you got better performance before?. tounge2.gifconfused.gif

Damn, there must be petition for new but this time realy GOLDEN patch.

The draw distance of GTA IV is horrible, get a choper or on some skyscraper the trees in the far a awful, they look like some baloons and not only the trees, shadows, popping textures, low performance ... etc
