So everybody's predicting a repeat of the 1974 World Cup Final in which Cruijff's Holland were just out-muscled by the extreme efficiency of Beckenbauer's Germany? Should be a fun Final if it comes to it!

I would like to have Holland-Spain, because I can't bear it if Holland loses from Germany.

 

(On the other side: if Holland wins the final, it would be better to win from Germany)

Hehe it's just fun. I have nothing against Holland or any other country. It's just some good old rivalry.

As for Serbia, your victory was totally deserved. You were the better team. I still cant figure out why you couldnt reach the last 16...

I expect you to reach the quarters in 2 years in Poland/Ukraine.

 

My thoughts on the semi-finals:

Spain will be a tough one. They should be able to win this if they find back to their old strength. Müller is banned for this game. It sucks. I want Kroos to replace him, but I think Trochowski will get his chance.

 

Holland will definetly beat Uruguay. I have no doubt about that. So we will have a Germany/Spain vs. Holland final.

We didn't make it to the last sixteen because we couldn't capitalise on our chances in the match against Australia, not to mention the fact that our coach made a few blunders in the last game. But, I've recovered now and am at the point where I simply want to block it out of my memory.

 

The two possible finals will both be great, in my opinion. Germany/Netherlands is a classic rivalry, and I'm sure that the match between the two will be similar to the encounter in the '74 final. Spain/Netherlands will also be great as they have been the best two teams in the world never to lift the cup, so the match wouldn't be as tame as some other possible fixtures.

 

My gut feeling tells me that Spain will pull a bit of an upset over the Germans, and that it will be a Spain/Netherlands final.

Not true. Most people watch it and agree with the generally held opinion that the offside was not against Valdez, but against the other guy whose name I can't remember. In that sense it is you who is letting your blatant hatred of the Spanish cloud your judgement. Get over it.

You don't know me enough to judge me over who I hate or don't hate.

I have lots of good Spanish friends (friends for life btw) and I speak Spanish.

I lived in Spain for 3 years.

It's all about football rivalry not hate.

I also said in a previous post that the offside was against Cardozo (not Valdez)

and that even like that it's a wrong call (imo) since Valdez is not in offside.

I guess some people in this topic takes personal opinions the wrong way.

We are supposed to have free of speech, right? Well, at least on football I hope.

And my replies were directed to Rape Alarm as in a normal debate over the match.

Cardozo was stood in an offside position and as soon as he tries to play the ball by jumping he then becomes active. Correct decision. When the ball does fall to Valdez it hits his arm anyway so it's handball. When Alcaraz brought down Villa, he was the last man and only receives a yellow? There wasn't much of an 'approachment' during Xabi's first pen, from Alonso's second missed pen the keeper brings down Fabregas which then should of been another pen.

What it means is that it's been about 20 years since they last won the world cup and now it's time for Germany to win again and by the way they've been playing I think it looks about right.

 

From 1954 then 20 years later in 1974 then 16 years later in 1990.

Btw, you should watch Valdez images again cause in some replays it seems like he definitely touched the ball with his arm (I thought the same at first) but from another angle you can clearly notice that he didn't touch it at all.

 

Spain's penalty wasn't a foul in my opinion.

Villa pretty much dived as Fabregas minutes later. Dived with style though cause it's hard to tell.

 

During the penalty there were players in but in Cardozo's penalty there were even more, so that one should have been repeated too.

The referee clearly rushed that decision. No way he should have been only looking out for encroachment on one of the three kicks, when there were clearly players in the box on all of them.

 

Having said that, according to the rules it depends not only on how many are encroaching, but who are encroaching. In other words a goal can only be disallowed if players from a team are encroaching. Can't remember which way round it is for the life of me though. Whereas you are saying that the other pen should have been retaken, it could just have been that they fell into that particular loophole.
