Easily the most exciting match I've watched so far. I thought NED - BRA would've been more exciting, but no. The last minute in extra time was just... Wow.

Our commentator mentioned the last penalty to be a near copy of this:

f*ck knows why I'm arguing for a team I have no connection to tounge2.gif I guess I'm living vicariously through Uruguay after seeing my team go out on a whimper.

The same mate. The same indeed. biggrin.gif

@Dice-Spot on mate. I agree with everything you said. And that penalty is what is called a panenka.

I don't hold any hard feelings against Ghana for beating the US, or for doing it in '06 for that matter. Never saw the use in hating a team that outplayed your team and deserved to win more. That was the case. We played like sh*t and lost. End of story. But that wasn't the case here with Uruguay - just IMHO of course.

I don't really hate them. I was just using that to make a point. Apparently gta 4 gamer thinks I'm a Ghana supporter or something.

This match between Uruguay and Ghana is easily among the most exciting World Cup games ever. At the same time I feel glad for the unexpected success of the 3 and a half million people country that is Uruguay I feel absolutely gutted for Asamoah Gyan. That penalty miss could hunt him for the rest of his life.

As I said before, football is controversy. You gotta expect such things and even more drama.

And what makes you think I think you are a Ghana supporter? Just cause I'm defending Uraguay?

If a Ghana player did that, you'll be protecting the sh*t out of him.

I'd hope not after all it's only a penalty, sh*t happens and for the majority of the tournament ghana have been excellent to watch. I expect big things from them in future icon14.gif

Obviously you would've protected him because you would've said what I said. (That any player in the world would've done that.)

What makes it even worse is that he could have easily placed his head or his body in front of the ball, but chose to put his hand in front of the ball instead.

He couldn't take any risks. He had to use his hands to have a higher chance of not conceding a goal. tounge.gif

The drama was unbearable. The anger I have at Gyan is completely cancelled out by how sorry I feel for him. Also my friend had Ghana in a sweepstake and would have made money if Gyan had scored, he will be livid.

On a brighter note, both of the quarter-final games have been fantastic, much better than the start. I hope the other matches are as good.

So yeah, this was the second time in the tournament that Ghana had a would-be goal handballed - remember the Australia group match and Harry Kewell? Suarez was much more blatant about it. Kewell was at least trying to pull his arm away.

Oh and just in case I'm accused of bandwagon jumping, I had Uruguay as one of my teams in the prediction league cool.gif I thought Forlan and Suarez would take them far. Probably not this far though. I think they could possibly do Holland too if the Dutch defense plays like they did in the first half today. Without Lugano and Godin back in the Uruguay defence it might be tricky though given the form Robben and Sneijder are in.

Now Suarez is one of the most hated men in football, surely United would be a sound fit for him? Fergie sign him up!

Can't wait for tomorrow colgate.gif

Come to think of it Ghana supporters should be more pissed off with Gyan than Suarez because Suarez's handball wasnt what cost them the match. Gyan had the game pretty much wrapped up and placed neatly in front of him with a pretty bow on top. All he had to do was score but he didnt even compose himself, just went for it and kicked Africa's hopes and dreams over the bar.

Would like to see Argentina win the cup I guess not Uruguay since they dont deserve it we're honest.

Regardless of whatever you think about Gyan and his mistake, the ball was clearly sailing into the back of the net for a 2-1 dramatic Ghana victory and the first ever African semi-finalist. Instead? We get Suarez hand balling the f*cking ball, and in the long run actually robbing Ghana of a deserved victory. Not only was the foul blatant, unsporting (as well as leaving a foul taste in any spectators mouth) but Ghana were the better team.

It just makes me sick that a team who are just now developing are denied a historic place in the semis. I know they had a juicy chance to nail the win but wouldn't it have been better if Gyan's incompetence hadn't come into? Simply said, if Suarez didn't hand ball like a f*cking asshole then the goal was certain, and Ghana would have got there justified victory. But no.

That's just football I guess confused.gif

Was it even a freekick which led to the Suarez incident? wasn't really paying that much attention during the game because i was to busy messing on the forums. I've just watched the highlights and they didn't even show the foul which the freekick was given for which was strange....?

Like i said just like bringing down a player on a counter attack, the player takes one for the team and Suarez done what any other play would of done (in fact there was another player trying to do the same thing). Uruguay could even had a pen themselves as Abreu's after a tangle in the box and incidents like that have been given.

A red card and a penalty was given, it's just Gyan f*cked up, it wasn't like the incident was totally missed and Ghana got nothing.

Even the crying Suarez couldn't believe that miss, he celebrated in the tunnel as if it were his goal.

Damn, I might be a brazillian, but I'm thinking that Argentina is the one that is going to get their hands on the trophy. It's gonna be funny, because Maradona promised that, if Argentina won, he would walk through all of Buenos Aires... NAKED. Also, there was a guy that said that would have sex with the guy that made the final score.

Nevertheless, I think that tomorrow is going to be the best match yet. Two teams that are showing a freaking good game. I think that whoever wins that match will be the one that will get the trophy. I'm kind of divided, because it would be good if Argentina win, because they're South Americans, and because there would still have no tetrachampions, only trichampions. But I also want Germany to win, because then I could still mock the hell of them.

I'm backing Spain or Holland now, I feel a little bit sorry for how great Holland were in 1974 and 1978 yet never won, maybe not it's there time. And Spain play beautiful football (David Villa for golden boot!)

I think that whoever wins this deserve kudos anyway. Looks like the semifinals are going to deliver some awesome matches. I'm still betting on either Germany or Argentina... Maybe Holland, just maybe... Only if they looked back in the past and used the good ol' "Dutch Carrousel" (Carrossel Holandês, para aqueles que ouvirão do Galvão wink.gif )

Wow what an incredible game that was, I feel gutted for Ghana, they had their destiny on Gyan's foot, and he f*cked up. Then they couldn't keep their composure on the PKs, but hey, that's football for you.

Think about this for a second. Ghana are the youngest team in the World Cup, now imagine them four years from now in Brazil when those young players are in their prime (and Michael Essien is healthy, I hope). I think they would be such a force that they could progress even further than they did in South Africa. The future is bright.

Just put a multi on Argentina and Spain to win after 90 mins.

Put $50 on it and it was paying just over $3.00. So could be an easy $100 profit if all goes to plan!

Looks like Brazil will be looking for a new manager again seeing as Dunga's contract was only for 4 years and it's not getting extended. Brazil should follow Argentina's suit and get a playing legend to manage them, Pele as a manager at the World Cup would be awesome but he may struggle to get past a semi.

Dunga is not a legend manager. Noone in Brazil was excited about him when he first started, specially when he started with ridiculous call ups (Afonso anyone?).

Dunga was a very good defender/defensive midfielder, but was nowhere near legendary status like the one Maradona holds in Argentina tounge.gif

Pelé as manager would be an awful idea in my opinion, the guy never really stuck around the game (in a proper sense, ie giving advice to managers, managing lesser categories, anything really related to football instead of being just a spokesperson) and it would be too much of a gamble. Imagine if he managed Brazil and crashed and burned, how would his image be? Hero today, gone tomorrow tounge2.gif

Felipe Melo was a joke, he gave that amazing pass to Robinho, that's correct, then he managed to sink Brazil. Had Brazil started with the same team that beat Chile, we would have had a better chance. But Dunga had to put in his favourite. Well done to Netherlands, didn't let that goal bring them down and fought for it, unlike Brazil who lost their heads after the equalizer.

Uruguay - Ghana, fantastic match, I agree with Seddo, any other player in the world would have done the same in that position. If it was just another match, noone would care, but it's the world cup. If Gyan had scored the penalty, noone would care, but he lost. Props to the guy for trying again and scoring a magnificent penalty, too bad he couldn't do that on that first one. Such is football!

Expecting some great matches today!

I have to agree with you their Seddo, I do believe he'd have a hard time getting his troops to full attention during the whole competition, unless he had a little medicinal help of course... wink.gif

The most interesting aspect about today's games? Will Octopus Paul go five-in-five, or will he lose his squids in an instant?
