Sh*t me some people just do not understand football. Being a Villa fan, you'd think i want Heskey to go to Africa. But with Bent having such a great season, i was leaning to him abit more.

Now i can see sense in picking Heskey, Against much more physical defences like Italy, Spain etc Heskey would be a bitch to handle, where as Bent is like any other Striker, i also noticed he panicked alot in the friendly matches which isn't what we need infront of goal, leave it to Defoe, Rooney & Crouch to get goals and Heskey to batter defences.

Gutted for Adam Johnson, i thought he would have gone, having such an awesome season, bags of talent and seems very composed, abit like Joe Cole really with flare and delivery down the flanks.

Exactly my point. And as for Adam Johnson his time will come. He just didn't get the time to prove himself in the warm up games to be honest.

That's just a piss take on Bent, second highest English goalscorer in the league, you've have to be taking him over Heskey because Crouch can do Heskey's job and more.

Bent falls into the between category though. He does Heskey & Crouch's jobs well enough, and also finishes well enough. However Heskey and Crouch are better target men, and Defoe and Rooney are better finishers when they are on form. I just can't see where he wil fit in.

Heskey cant score for sh*t. I would have Bent over Heskey anyday.

When did I say Heskey could score? Maybe if you read my post you would understand my point of view? If not, please don't quote me.

Sorry. We have two target men but the thing is we should of took one of them. IMO Crouch would be the better option because he can score, Heskey cant. Why has Capello taken Heskey, people say he partners well with Rooney which he does but I have a feeling Rooney will be the alone striker with Stevie G behind him. So why do we need two target men? why not Bent?

I agree with Capello's decision not taking Theo Walcott because we already have two speedy wingers anyway. I cant remember who said this but someone said on Sky Sports news that you need pace to win the World Cup and I agree with him. I was always tied between SWP and Walcott (Lennon was always a definite) but at the end of the day I would say SWP, Walcott's National form is good when he scored 3 goals in qualifying. For me Walcott can do the business but he hasn't got a good finish IMO 86 apps and 9 goals for Arsenal is not that good. But then again wingers don't have to score they have to have a great cross on them. IMO SWP has a better cross.

I don't know why Carrick is on that plane. I would rather have Scott Parker than Carrick, have you seen how bad Carrick has been this season for United and Three Lions. I'm a United fan and IMO he cost us the CL against Munich, he falls over all the time. Parker is a brilliant midfielder.

We need 2 in case one gets injured. Because Heskey partners well with Rooney and is proven at this level. Plus whatever Bates_GTA said. Bent has no physical presence and panics in front of goal.

Yeah I'm not big fan of Bent but his goal record is class. But yeah I suppose It Is a different level and will probably panic but we need pace and goals.

And how is he going to provide them if every time he gets into the box he sh*ts himself? Your posts are full of contradictions...

...and Ashley Young probably has a better cross than them all and is just as fast. Yet he was never considered. Capello has gone with the gys he has used before and he can trust which is why Parker and Dawson weren't considered.

Again do you really think Ashley Young would be composed in the World Cup against world class defences, i highly doubt it, I'd much rather see Joe Cole who is alot more unpredictable. This is coming from a Villa & Young fan.

I'd much rather have more than 1 plan of getting goals against certain teams, Defoe will be great infront of goal, but getting him in those positions would be hard against the likes of Italy etc, who will just knock him off the ball, to partner Defoe you'd need a big target man like Heskey, I think every striker Capello has chosen would be able to play together, had he of chosen Bent & Defoe, i see them as similar players who won't hassle defences, having to defend against them would be considerably easy.

Heskey gives us an option not many teams have, plus if you've ever watched him play for Aston Villa, he doesn't stop running & working.

As for Carrick, with Barry being a doubt for our first game against USA it's the safest option, plus Carrick on form is a great player anyway.

Experience comes above Skill all day long, you can't teach composure.

German WC-Squad:

Goal: Jörg Butt (36 years old, Bayern München), Manuel Neuer (24, FC Schalke 04), Tim Wiese (28, Werder Bremen).

Defence: Dennis Aogo (23, Hamburger SV), Holger Badstuber (21, Bayern München), Jerome Boateng (21, Hamburger SV), Arne Friedrich (31, Hertha BSC), Marcell Jansen (24, Hamburger SV), Philipp Lahm (26, Bayern München), Per Mertesacker (25, Werder Bremen), Serdar Tasci (23, VfB Stuttgart).

Midfield: Sami Khedira (23, VfB Stuttgart), Toni Kroos (20, Bayer Leverkusen), Marko Marin (21, Werder Bremen), Mesut Özil (21, Werder Bremen), Bastian Schweinsteiger (25, Bayern München), Piotr Trochowski (26, Hamburger).

Strikers: Cacau (29, VfB Stuttgart), Mario Gomez (24, Bayern München), Stefan Kießling (26, Bayer Leverkusen), Miroslav Klose (31, Bayern München), Thomas Müller (20, Bayern München), Lukas Podolski (24, 1. FC Köln)

No Ballack, no Frings, no Hitzlsperger, no Lehmann. A very young (as you can see above) and talented, but also unexperienced team. Still strong enough to do some damage. Lahm will be team-captain. Youngest captain in the history of the German national team.

Watch out for Toni Kroos as he will be the future star of German football:

Forgot about Ashley, he has had a brilliant season.

@nerner: Your saying Bent wont score then Heskey wont. This will never end smile.gif

@Bates: Carrick doesn't deserve to be in that squad. Yes he is a great player on form but when was the last time he was on form. Parker deserves to play instead of Carrick.

I agree, we need level heads more than anything at this world cup and I think Capello has got it spot on. Young impressed me last year for Villa and wanted him to push on to international level. Ah well, one for the future at least.

It's strange to see these players I know from Football Manager years ago come into the international fold for certain teams. Ozil, Gourcuff and the aforementioned Kroos all picked for their respective teams. Should be interesting.

My first choice in the winger category would be Aaron Lennon, I've always been a fan of his not to mention that Joe Cole has been injured alot this season and has little to no recent match experience. Most of the time I was shouting at the screen, begging Ancelotti to at least bring Joe on for ten minutes!

Breaking News: Rio Ferdinand has gone over on his knee in the first England training session. No source for you yet- I just heard it on talkSPORT- but I'm sure we won't hear the end of this over the next week or so. f*ckin' awesome, eh? icon13.gif

Can't say I'm too surprised tbh, he's struggled with injuries all year.

Maybe then we'll play our best partnership:

King +Terry/Ferdinand. I rate King higher than both of them and I would have taken Dawson instead of Upson if I were Fabio.

Yeah I reckon it will be Terry/King should Rio miss a few games. I also think Rooney should be given captaincy should Rio miss out- I think it would raise not take from his game, he is one of the most vocal England players along with Terry and Hart- but I reckon Fabio will stick to the hierarchy in place and give it to Gerrard.

They reckon it could be ligament damage...

Dawson now officially on standby, Fabio looks to be calm in the press conference though.

Didier Drogba was forced off the pitch with an injury to his arm during the first half of a warm-up game against Japan.

He could miss the World Cup and It starts in 7 days. England also have a injury scare. Rio Ferdinand could miss the World Cup, bad news for Capello but then again he was pleased about Barry taking part in a full session of traning. I hope Ferdinand Is ok.

Holy sh*t, I didn't see that about Drogba. Let me be the first to say: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I hate the guy, karma is a bitch and I see this as payback for all that play acting and cheating the bastard gets away with at Chelsea. The Ivory Coast team is still pretty decent but I can't see them getting too far without their talisman. It would be like Portugal losing Ronnie.

I'm off to hide in a cupboard somewhere now while all the GTAF Chelski fans turn up. But seriously, as an England fan, I'm glad to see teams losing their better players. I hope Kaka doesn't make it too devil.gif

True say about Karma and all his play-acting. But i'd much rather see all the best players playing in the World Cup even if it's against us.

Talk about Karma or maybe Irony, Ferdinand has been ruled out of the World Cup after a Knee injury following a tackle on none-other than Emile Heskey rolleyes.gif

Will be interesting to see who starts for us now at Centre back. Maybe John Terry & Ledley King? On the Bright side, it may give King the chance to play like he does for Spurs, alongside Terry who on his day is flawless.

Gerrard will step up to the plate as Captain.

I cringed when I read it was Heskey who injured Rio. More fuel for the "WTF BENT SCORES MORE!!!!" argument. All it goes to prove is how much of a handful Heskey is if in training he can injure a top class defender. Let's hope he gives Lucio, Chiellini, and Puyol a tough time too.

Yeah I just read that back and laughed too...

Fair enough. Just saying that if we are going to harangue Drogba we need to look at our homegrown diving talent. Gerrard is just an example, we have far too many players now who just throw themselves onto the ground at the slightest contact. It's a disease sweeping through British football right now.

I don't think I've ever found myself screaming at the TV when Liverpool have been playing because of Gerrard's antics. Drogba is indeed on another level, the guy infuriates me to no end. It makes it worse that the guy is built like a brick wall yet falls over and rolls so dramatically. It's not just the diving it's his general smugness and arrogance. He's a giant f*cking child.

And nah this isn't jelousy or bias it's just my own opinion. HATE him.

Edit: Looks like Rio is out for the tournament. Dawson is being called up to replace him. Absolutely gutted for Rio sad.gif

Gerrard to take over as captain.

Edit 2: Didn't notice the squad numbers had been released. Looks like James is #1 and Crouchie will partner Rooney.

1 James • 2 Johnson • 3 A. Cole • 4 Gerrard © • 5 Dawson • 6 Terry • 7 Lennon • 8 Lampard • 9 Crouch • 10 Rooney • 11 J. Cole • 12 Green • 13 Warnock • 14 Barry • 15 Upson • 16 Milner • 17 Wright-Phillips • 18 Carragher • 19 Defoe • 20 King • 21 Heskey • 22 Carrick • 23 Hart

I dont think it matters how much they dive, its the fact they do it that pisses me off. Players on 120k+ a week and they still have to cheat.

Exactly! whats the point? just play football and get on with it, there's no need in cheating or unless your like Maradona.

What the players need is a stint in Sunday League, they think they've got it tough now then just wait until these pub goers get stuck into them and show no mercy, they won't even have time to think about diving and play acting and the more they do it the harder the challenges will be, plus the refs are very lenient compared to refs in professional football. It will turn them into men.
