The Koreans ran out true winners tonight. The heart and spirit in that team that remains unperturbed by Brazil's skillfulness, is truly magnificent. This should be what the World Cup is about, not lame 0-0 defensive draws.

Good omens for New Zealand, they have two players in their squad today who don't even have a club (including there Captain for today Simon Elliot), and one of their players had to ask his Bank Manager for time off to come to the World Cup. Can the Part-Timers do it? Probably not.

Our captain is Ryan Nelson from Blackburn Rovers.

My thoughts on the match:

 

Brazil - Completely uninspired throughout the match. Robinho was the only one looking to play, picking up the ball in every side of the field, but the team was not keeping up with his pace, everyone else was just too slow and lazing about. Kaká was more of a hassle than a help. The game looked destined to a draw, and then Brazil found a goal by luck, like it's been doing way too many games lately. Elano's crossings were nowhere, failed to hit anyone, but that was props to the North Korean defense, guys were sharp. Today just proved once again that Brazil struggles a lot versus defensive sides, since their play is mostly based on fast counter attacks as they can't create sh*t with posession. Looking forward to them facing a strong team.

 

Democratic People's Republic of Korea (as they made it clear they want to be called) - Played a solid defensive game, rebuffing any chance Brazil had of entering their defense. Were holding their own up until that lucky goal, can't put the blame solely on the keeper, with the way Brazil was playing he was right in waiting for a cross, never in that match would he think Maicon would shoot. But... Then things went a bit downhill, and they conceded another, but still managed to claw one back. Tactically they did very well, just lacked a bit of luck. Good game though, shouldn't be hard for the country's media make it seem like they won the match.

 

Here in Brazil, the media and people everywhere had already written off Korea, and were expecting Brazil to score 5, 6, 8 goals. But they certainly showed they are no pushovers, or in the very least made it clear what Brazil's problems are. Here they were all criticizing Argentina as well, who only won 1-0 vs a Nigeria with a wall on their goal. On to the next fixtures!

Haha I honestly can imagine the media doing that. They're despicable in this country. It's especially seeing all the ads featuring the Socceroos; instead of wasting time making advertisements for Qantas, Optus and Weet-Bix, they should focus on making a more concerted team effort.

 

Nonetheless, great job to the Kiwis; Italy's result really opens up the group for you. If you're playing at your best, you can beat Paraguay.

That's ridiculous. I really doubt a single person in Australia will be confiding in the thought they're claiming our result.

They can't feel as though they've achieved anything. Im struggling to understand why they did that, to be honest. Australasia isn't a country, its closer to being a continent so how could there possibly be a team at the World Cup under that name.

 

Oh, and thanks Stefan. We'll lose to Italy by a long way, im hoping for a draw with Paraguay, so then we just need Slovakia to beat Paraguay (assuming they lose to Italy).

Alexis Sanchez will be huge player in two or three years, hell, I'm still surprised that at 21 he still hasn't signed for a Top Four Bundesliga/La Liga/Premier League/Serie A side. Quick, good control, intelligent, and he can strike the ball, watch out for him vs Honduras.

Chile v Honduras is being interesting, after the matches we've been watching. Chile are taking control of the game, but they're not being able to do anything. Honduras, however, are displaying a solid defense, some great passing and fast football.
