Yep, half of the resolution, one quarter of the texture detail, blur you can spot from 5 feet and you still pull an average of 20ish FPS. Great indeed. I would rather be reading a GTAIV comic book. thank you so much for commenting on that, i had to refrain because i had a very nasty comment on that. but i couldnt have put it better even if i sugar coated it. lol, and just a one question(sorry if it sounds noobish). How good will a 9800gt or GTX do. I mean will i be able to acheive 15+ fps, because by the way you guys are saying the 9800GT-GTX is old, it sounds like it wont play gta 4 well(and my specs are in my sig). Thanks. Ok then i'll go for a 9800GT+, they are cheap now a days. Also are all GT 200 series cards good?e.g GT220 or GT240, because many people say they are garbage, or are they better than the 9800GT(X)? If you can afford a GTX 260, I'd get that. A GT250 is about the same speed as an ordinary 9800GT (no x).

dj jazzy death
Thanks guys, only thing holding me back now is my psu(220w, which is practically useless). How would i be able to know if a certain psu would fit in my case, cause i do have to replace it(It's an store bought desktop, i can build my own pc, but this one was worth it, and it's a mATX kind of case(pc is the Acer X1300)). Either way, i'll go with either an GTS250, GTX260 or a 9800GT(X).
Garfield 2
For such a processor, GTS250 will be bottlenecked. Get a Phenom II X4 or a NVIDIA 9600GT then.

Merlena
There is no good Card for this crappy port and i think there be no great card to run this game on max settings with fully smooth gameplay Exactly! People seriously, get your sh*t together. The 480 GTX is NOT bad, I've running it myself, and have no heat issues. As said, get proper cooling for proper equipment. You don't buy a 3 week old GPU with your 2 year old cabinet/motherboard/CPU. It explains itself, if it's something you need to replace for a nextgen graphic card, it's certainly the other parts before buying a monster like 480 GTX. Of course ATI is sometimes cheaper, I had the 57xx and just switched to a new build with the 480 GTX, okay it works hard, but it doesn't melt, or get any hotter than what the ATI cards did. And what the quoted poster wrote: No card whatever can run this non-optimized, performance leak of an engine that GTA IV is running on; it's just like World of Warcraft; I mean the game can barely support multi-threading correctly, and still it's 12 million people playing it, and the support is awful, so is Rockstar's optimizations, having 2 years on them. For instance Warcraft is a typical example of this; 5 years and not a single engine update; the better, nextgen hardware you buy, the worse the game runs; it's kinda the same with GTA IV, as the engine is basically utter-crap. Another fine is example is Crysis: It was a total resource hog when it came out, even the new cards had problems running it on the default settings (not the modded, tweaked cvars), they came out with Warhead and Crysis was a completely new game, finally low-end users could experience the eye-candy of the first Crysis in maximum settings. It's Rockstar that has done a bad job. This engine is really outdated; and non-optimized, stop arguing about GPUs; ATI is fine, but no support, and bugs in a lot of drivers, so they have to come out with a "hotfix" like they did for Splinter Cell: Conviction. Nvidia is in the slight lead, I don't really care in this dumb race. I'm just saying: Even though ATI is cheaper, bla bla bla. Nvidia still has better support, drivers, and features than ATI has. And stop Q_Qing about this 480 GTX, as if you have proper 2010 hardware, and the 480, you will experience no problems. Bottom line: If you buy the 480 GTX it's pretty logic that you need to buy equal hardware in the rest of the computer. Seriously; this card is not designed to run on sh*t, but rather nextgen equippment, as it is a nextgen card. ...*sigh*...
