StoOopiD
he specifically asked for nvidia cards, good paying attention there. quad sli gtx 480's? thats just preposterous to even mention, that would be well over 3000 - 4000 just to build, to play this game? thats just silly. well how much did those 285's set u back? my rig didnt cost me anything, it was paid for from my profit shares from my company. your recommendation of a flagship card is a wise one, i only commented that using 4 x gtx 480 is rediculous, but one if you can afford is very wise (but again id wait for 2nd gen so maybe it wont double as a toaster). once the 2nd gen does hit i will be building an I7 980-gx based system with sli 480 gtx x2 and use one of my 285's for physx. even though i have access to anything i want, i wait for hardware to be at its peak or best revision. my 480 idles in the low 40's ,it runs cooler than my 8800 gts 640mb idling in the mid 50s. I remember reading somewhere that the 480 march 26 release was the 3rd revision. Maybe guru3d, i dont know. all in all, im broke and happy. lol the only thing i dont like is the card is literally sitting on the SB heatsink and SATA ports. time for a new mobo i guess. I think SLI // Crossfire is over-rated , over-priced, and over-kill Edited May 13, 2010 by StoOopiD

Extortionate
Agreed. I don't think the 480's will be causing the earth to turn into a red hot sun just yet. My old 7800GTX used to be really hot because of the metal bar along the top. That thing would burn you easy.
apache249
think about this. U can buy a $200 video card every year or so. to keep up or u can buy the $500 flagship, which should last around 3 to 5 years or better I think there wont be game made within 5 years thats going to bring this GTX 480 to a crawl Get a GTX 480 or a ATi 5970 , but keep in mind that u might also have to buy a psu too dont f*ck around Exactly what I said. Great job telling it. @ that dumb poster complaining about 480 GTX: And no, get a proper cabinet and the 480 GTX doesn't have thermal issues. Just that you had bad crappy cabinet with bad cooling doesn't mean the card itself is bad. It got on the marked over a week ago. What does that mean? It's completely new! Means, nextgen card; needs GOOD cooling. Keep it up and all the cards you gonna buy the next 4+ months are gonna melt. Get proper equipment to proper hardware. Period. who is the dumb poster? just curious. also it is on every tech forum out there that the gtx480 is way hotter then it should be, they even fried an egg on it. also my company (literally MY company) has had the gtx 480 for over a month now, the card is hot period. weve had it in antec nine hundred two cases, thermaltakes, and others, added fans - its still hot under heavy load. its an excellent card, but hot. Nvidia has already let its resellers and partners (me being one) know that a revision is in the works, there will be a gtx 485 and gtx 490 coming. the 490 is an extreme edition with really aggressive clocks and almost 4gb of onboard ram. They didn't actually fry an egg on it, but yeah, if you buy a flagship card, it will last you a while.

viometrix
Stoopid what make of 480 do you have? when i say revision i mean from nvidia and the board design, secondary manufacturers have several internal revisions that can mean a change in heatsinks or colors or stickers on the unit. i know the next revision in nvidia will be an overall die shrink. right now i think evga has the best cooling design without going to liquid cooling. also when im on my monitor i game at 1680 x 1050, but i also run at 1080p on the flatscreen when the wife isnt watching tv. StoOopiD
I think i found out how nvidia fixed the heat issue. In the driver, theres a power management option: Adaptive or Prefer Maximum Performance Its a useless option but its there. I have not tried maximum performance mode yet. dodgths
wht abouty an ATI 5770 for a mid range. DX11 and low power consumption while all being 1 gb vid ram for 1080p

DX11 and low power consumption while all being 1 gb vid ram for 1080p For a mid-range card yeah its the only real option if you want DX11 but as was mentioned if you buy a high-end card it will last longer in the latest games as opposed to a less expensive mid-range card. Still for some people they cant afford spending $600+ on a gpu at the top of the range, what they can do is buy the mid-range $200 card and when it starts to struggle with the latest games its not such a hassle to spend another $200 to get the latest mid range card 12 or 24 months down the track. DODI3OG
Guys, which is better? A 9800gtx+ or 9800gx2. I might get a 9800gt next week.
Extortionate
Go for a 200 series. A GTS250 will beat a 9800GTX even though they're the same specs.

torresno9
Just tried out my 480 on the LATD, everything on max and it's smooth as silk, i could tell the difference going from a GTX 260 Maxcore OCX, they are pricey though but if you can afford it, i highly recommend it, and no sign of smoke or flames yet!! Yep, half of the resolution, one quarter of the texture detail, blur you can spot from 5 feet and you still pull an average of 20ish FPS. Great indeed. I would rather be reading a GTAIV comic book.
