GTA Mapmaking

That actually looks f*cking awesome.

(Although I suggest you save your talent, as you've seen this map seems to be progressing really fast, I'm working on the next bit now.)

Needs an Area 51!!

I know. I've been using Google maps for reference, and it's nowhere to be seen. However, there is a huge blotted out area north of Vegas (Venturas,) and I'm guessing that's where it is, just south of the Groom Lake salt flat.

Area 51 is right here:

This map is amazing, you should send it to R* when it's completed! icon14.gif

Doc already added it (#15)

It looks like it's in about the right spot too, so I'm just going to try and squeeze in the salt flat near it.

Also, to make sure this thing is consistent, which font are you using to mark areas?

Thus far I've been using Lucida Sans @ 8pt, smoothed.

Noted, and here's the new section:

From this point on, I'm going to be focusing mainly on Diaho; most of the Northwest looks pretty lacking in terms of residences, so I'm going to fit in as many of the smaller towns as I can.

Chilliad should probably be somewhere in the Cascades.

In SA, Chilliad is based on Mt. Diablo, which is in Contra Costa County just east of Berkley. The proper placement on this map would be south of the small town in Tierra Robada.

"Canada" looks a little squished. There was also a weird change in the colors in your last upload. I've fixed what I could of it, and also added the following counties/cities in Monteray (Montana)

Justice (Liberty)

-Olivia (Libby)

Sandman (Sanders)

Silicate (Mineral)

Phillips (Flathead)

Poole County (Lake)

-Toxic (Poison)

Some of the earlier additions are starting to look pretty jacked up too (Washington) Anything that can be done to remedy that besides rewriting all of it?

That should do it for Monteray.

Does that fit with the west-coast part? Because I'm with you on mapping the entire US, but I would vote to just keep building from the west to keep it consistent.

In addition, I believe in Vice City they do still refer to the state as Florida, so maybe just a spelling change would work?

ok, its just in RDR they refer to florida as Dade County, but im cool with that.

EDIT: Over 100 Posts! Thats a lot of hard work on maps, people

I think we should outline the rest of the states, accordingly to the West Coast Map, so we have a final sketch, and then just fill it in, I dont agree with Using the Actual States shapes, EXACTLY, but For the most part, yes. I myself am not really farmiliar with the West Coast that Much, but I can sure as hell put alot of Detail in Certain Areas in the East Coast, also, What about Mexico and Canada?

Well Im having trouble uploading the entire imagine to its actual size with Tinypic, it wants to shrink it, please give me a new site that wont do this.

Ill upload the shrunk version, but add to it, because it will "shrink" our progress

I need to Change the size of the Canadian Provinces, and make BC bigger, and the rest Smaller. Someone other than me should make the Gulf of Mexico, Florida, and the area around that.

Use Photobucket.com. You'll have to make an acount, but it's free, and there aren't any size restrictions.

Vancouver Island isn't tilted in that direction, it's more along the coast of BC.

nice! what we are going to do instead of making the east coast and working west is that we are just going to keep working west

is that ok?

Photobucket isnt working either

Do you have the upload setting set to "1 megabyte file size?"

Collector's edition comes with a wheelbarrow to help you carry all the disks it comes on.

Not that it wouldn't be an awesome map.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
