Looks cool KDTV, just the roads are not the neatest. If you can, use a line tool of some kind to straighten them out.

Map Update: No updates for the next two weeks, Why, well here are some reasons:

  • School Production rehearsals (Tomorrow, Friday and Sunday)
  • School Production (The 25th, the 27th and the 28th, add that to being away from home on some of those days)
  • My Birthday (2nd of April)

I am still working on the map, but much less than normal. Don't think I am forgetting the map, I most certainly am not! Thanks for reading.

Fair enough :^:

Any chance we can see the new updates on Paleto Bay? Damn, I love that town, and I'm loving what you did to it!

Hi guys! It's been a while since my last post, but I have my reasons. In fact I've finished the map (my plans were to give you guys two updates but well, in the end I've decided to show just the complete map)

But, before to show it, I want to thank you for the support, as I've already said, it was (and it will be) very appreciated.

Here's the map

Hope you like it! :)

@Carmain2K Too bad that you have to slow down your work on the SA map, but I'm definitively looking forward to your next update!

@killdrivetheftveichle It's a good map, too bad for the crooked streets. Did you use paint perhaps? I love the google maps style though

@phoenixShine Why did you cut out the countryside?

@phoenixShine Why did you cut out the countryside?

Not countryside, but townships. Why? Beacuse a lot of townships had only villages. This map is for my new concept art and I don't want villages in it.

I'm starting a map for a new concept I'm planning.

It's basically going to consist of a compressed UK, the main cities being London, a mash-up northern city combining Liverpool/ Manchester/ Birmingham and Scottish city based on Glasgow and Edinburgh. It will also contain a grim northern mill town, a bleak Essex town, a Brighton based seaside town, a rural West Country town and a Scottish town. It will also contain several smaller villages and attractions in the countryside. The cities will all be around th size of Liberty in GTA 4.

I've never made a map before, could anyone give me any tips?

I can help with the west country town! (for obvious reasons... try and guess why.). But seriously, great Idea. If you want tip, I would say use Paint or Paint.net, Use Google maps to help you lay out the map, and take your time. The final tip is the most important.

@JohnGale: Looks good, and very original. Do you have any inspiration?

I attempted to make a world map for the GTA United States.

gtusa_1200x919_compressed.jpg

All of the cities are either from previous Rockstar games or based off of real cities. Some major cities are:

Sprawlston = Houston

Blackgold = Dallas

Rainier = Seattle

Silicon = San Jose

Beechland = Oakland

Lobbyton = Washington, D.C.

Peachville = Atlanta

Rustburg = Pittsburgh

Farmington = Kansas City

Gateway = St. Louis

Rockinfella = Cleveland

Queens = Cincinnati

Twins = Minneapolis-St. Paul

St. Mickeysburg = Orlando

Tampone = Tampa-St. Pete

Bromancia = Philadelphia

Codpiece = Boston

Nevermore = Baltimore

Lakeshore = Chicago

Brewster = Milwaukee

Harlot = Charlotte

Firebird = Phoenix

Laxville = Jacksonville

Grandfacile = New Orleans

I don't know if this map could fit in a game with today's technology, but someone creative may be able to. If it was made into a game, it would be scaled down, say, to 100-200 miles across. Maybe even 50 miles if they only included the big cities. I certainly wouldn't want to spend my time driving all over a map that spans thousands of miles like the real United States.

Here's the entry on my map blog.

Sorry, but I'm not totally sure to have understood your question :( (yeah I'm italian, it's a luck that I can barely speak with you guys)

If you mean if I had any inspiration for the map, the answer is no, I just made it "with heart", without too much thinking. If you meant something else, I'm so sorry but I couldn't figured it out :(

@UrbanAdventuring That's an epic map. Too bad you don't want to draw it with more detalis. But I get it though, it would be an endless job to do xD

That Chicago map is starting to look beautiful.

Here is a WIP map for a GTA set in the Southern state of the US. Still haven't came up with a name for the state yet. The working title is just "Dixie GTA" and the state map will somehow incorporate the Confederate battle flag.

map_zps7be5e3dc.png

Athena=Atlanta, GA

Johnsonville=Jacksonville, FL

New Olivet=New Orleans, LA

Martin=Macon, GA

Hensville=Gainesville, GA

Peachton=Peachtree, GA

Octavius=Augusta, GA

Red Lines are freeways

Orange Lines are County lines.

It has been a very long time since I've worked on this. My dog died shortly after I started this map, and I was focused on that, so it made me forget about this. Some things have changed since the last time I worked on this, with more colors incorporated into the map than before, and some small expansion. Here's a small key, I will incorporate one into the map later on:

Dark green- Forest

Green- Parkland

Greenish yellow- Farmland

Gray- Harbor

White- Buildings

Black- Roads

Beige- Beach

Light Blue- Water

mc_zps5199ccc4.png

I expanded south somewhat from Ashtabula (still no name for it), towards a lake based off of real-life Pymatuning Lake on the Ohio-Pennsylvania border, a lake I am calling "Lenape Lake", named after the tribes which once lived in the area. The town right near the lake, based off of Linesville, Pennsylvania (a town you probably never heard of) will be called "Lanes Mill".

Is the city in the top right Erie, PA? And will that harbor in the middle of the map be Cleveland? Sounds like it will be a pretty cool concept!

Syomark = Minnesota (Swedish again. sjö = "lake", mark = "land". J's are pronounced as Y's in Swedish. )

Pistolevoit = Michigan + some of Wisconsin (from French: pistolet = "gun", voiture = "car", and it combines to form a word similar to Detroit. BTW, you can see a gun in the upper peninsula and a car in the lower peninsula)

Windeesittee = Chicagoland and Milwaukee (faux native - "Windy City")

Linkon = Indiana + Illinois - Chicago (just a different spelling of "Lincoln", but with "kon")

Oyesso = Ohio (another faux native name. "Oh yes!")

Fentuckmee = Kentucky + Tennessee (just combined the names in a dirty way)

Henria = Georgia and Alabama south of the Tennessee River. (Georgia is named after King George II, so an alternate universe would have a state named after King Henry VIII)

Rivieruste = North Florida (from French rivière = "river", rustre = "redneck" (rustic), combine to get "Redneck Riviera", a nickname for the region)

Meretricia = Virginia and the Carolinas east of the Appalachians (from Latin: meretrix = "whore", the opposite of a virgin (Virginia))

Capitalia = District of Columbia + Maryland + Northern Viriginia (land of the capital)

Shakenquake = Pennsylvania + Shaker Heights, OH (Shakers and Quakers, two prominent sects in the area at the time of settlement)

Pureland = New England minus Connecticut parts of greater NYC (Pure = "Puritans" -> "Land of the Pure". Also a good drug reference)

(I used Google translate for a lot of the etymologies)

Map of the United States of America: Preview 1

8JSfLbs.png

(Oh, someone already did a USA map...)

Anyway. This is my new map: A map of the entire United States. This map is not completely new: It was made from a map I did last year but never posted. It was made without anti aliasing because it's easier to edit it. This map will be a mix of fiction and reality. By that, I mean there will be fictional names and real life names. It will also include cities from other Rockstar Games: Red Dead Redemption (Armadillo, Blackwater), Bully (Bullworth) and Manhunt (Carcer City, Cottonmouth). It will also include completely remade Arizona and New Mexico to simulate New Austin and West Elizabeth from RDR. Yes, I know RDR isn't in GTA Universe, but it makes my map more original.

So far, I made San Andreas and Columbia (Look below for their real life counterparts).

In this spoiler, there is a list of all the 30 states and some cities that will be shown on this map.
Keep in mind this is not finished and there are still some unnamed states and cities.

"/" means it's the same name as real life. "--" means I didn't find a name yet.
Maine-New Hampshire-Vermont-Massachusetts-Rhode Island-Connecticut: New England

  • Albany: Humboldt City
  • Buffalo: Beaver Creek

  • Trenton: Carcer City

Pennsylvania: /

  • Philadelphia: /
  • Harrisburg: /

Maryland: Churchland

  • Annapolis: Metropolis

Delaware: Delaware

Ohio: Erie

Kentucky-Tennessee: Cherokee

Florida: /

  • Miami: Vice City
  • Tampa: Cottonmouth

North Carolina-South Carolina: South Virginia

Louisiana-Mississippi: Charleston

Alabama-Georgia: Alhambra

Illinois-Indiana: Iroquois

Wisconsin-Michigan: Michigan

  • San José: San Juan
  • Sacramento: Comunión

Washington-Oregon: Columbia

  • Seattle: Pacific City
  • Portland: Freighton
  • Olympia: Athena

Hawaii: /

Alaska: /

I also made a US flag for this map:

dXNr5cS.png
30 stars for 30 states and 10 stripes for the former Ten Colonies of Great Britain (New England, Liberty, Alderney, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Churchland, Virginia, South Virginia, Alhambra and Florida).

Edit: Minor corrections.

I'm making a more detailed state map of my version of New England - "Pureland".

Progress so far (stage 1):

pureland_stage1_montage.png

So far I have the basic limited-access highway system mapped, the coastlines, and the core areas of the showcase and capital city - Codpiece, which is a take on Boston. Codpiece's zoomed-in map is shown to the right. Color codes indicate certain types of zones. Green is grassy or park, orange is university, cyan is central business district, yellow is industrial, light gray is harbor, dark gray is airport, and undetermined developed zones are indicated with white.

The two universities shown so far will take the place of Harvard (top most) and MIT (near the river). I don't know what they will be called. I just know where they will be placed. I liked Liberty University in GTA 3, and thought they should have had them in all the rest of the GTAs. Saints Row 2 had one as well. Plenty of mission possibilities... That said, I will probably leave out other Boston schools since Boston has so many of them.

I want to fill out the rest with a ring of rowhouse-style neighborhoods around the core areas. Industrial areas will be along the railroads, whereever they are placed. Some lower-density suburban neighborhoods will be put near beltway. These will be composites, since there isn't much space left inside the loop. These neighborhoods would get pretty repetitive anyway. I'll try to look for patterns and make a map accordingly.

I also want to include Impotence (Providence) to the south, and a yet to be named city to the west in the place of cities like Springfield and Worchester. One GTA/Rockstar town that is known to the north is Bullworth. I'm aiming to follow Bully's map for Bullworth, wherever I put it, but I will expand upon it since a next-gen system could handle a much bigger Bullworth. The game said it was 40K people or so. that's not much smaller than a town like Portland, Maine. There will be a few more cities like stereotypical New England small towns. I am not including Connecticut because it fits more into my conception of the State of Liberty, which houses Liberty City.

Terrain will be mountainous to the north, hilly to the south, and there will be a lot of islands on the coasts. The coastline is still pretty much a sketch at this point. More nodes will be inserted to give it more detail. I'm using a vector drawing program called Inkscape, which makes modifications like this very easy. (In fact all my maps so far have been done with Inkscape - very handy program.)

Right now the project is at stage 1 completion. This means the basic road system and state outline is established, and the capital's core is established. I estimate 5 stages in all. The next stage will probably be filling out the rest of Codpiece, starting on some other cities, and placing some terrain outlines.

I'm making a more detailed state map of my version of New England - "Pureland".

Progress so far (stage 1):

Wow, that's a huge map! How big is the left image?

I started my second map. like the previous is completely imaginary, with no real counterpart. It's much bigger though, almost two times my first map. I also changed the width of roads, so the map will be even bigger.

Here it is.

Obviously it's at very early stages, I've only put the basic layout of the landscapes and cities, but it's not ultimate yet.

Hope you liked it, let me know what you think :)

About 40 miles North-South, 15 miles East-West. That's using 4 "pixels" on the vector image = 1 mile as a scale.

Codpiece (Boston) is now mapped. The zones are set for buildings. Below I used a color scheme for denoting zones. Red is residential (housing and apartments), blue is commercial (offices and shops - dark blue is central business district), yellow is industrial (factories, labs, and warehouses), and orange is educational (universities). Icons for gun shops, hospitals, police stations, etc. will be added after all the other cities have been mapped. I will also name the neighborhoods later.

(The area inside the beltway loop is about 6 miles x 9 miles, or 54 square miles.)
