Not entirely sure if it is finished or not, but I am quite happy with the current result.

The landmass is roughly 4 times that of GTA V. This includes the map of Republica de Valentina.
As you can see the map features two major cities: New Bordeaux and Vice City. Next to that there are a few minor cities and a bunch of towns scattered around the map.

Once finished completely I'll add a version with names, a version without the south american island and a version with the GTA V map in comparison.

If there is any feedback, let me know :)

You put Mafia 3's map in it? Why?

@ivarblaauw I really liked your job, as I tried making one myself, and it's not as easy as you make it sound like. One critique I would like to point out: There's too much wasted space, just like people commented on the gta v map. Forests and mountains are great additions, but if they take too much space, and there's no way to traverse them, it just makes that space unavailable to gameplay. So make more roads is basically my suggestion.

That is something which is certainly needed, thanks for the input! I'll definitely add more roads once I got a bit of spare time again! :)
I am also thinking of adding a few more suburbs to the city in the everglades, to make it roughly twice the size it currently is.

It is definitely not easy, wasn't meant that way at all! I do have to say that it was 2 full work days that I spend on it, so not just after work hours.

Mafia 3's map of New Bordeaux is based on New Orleans as @Sean Sovidaray pointed out.

Since Hangar 13 is a sister company of Rockstargames and both feature multiple hints towards each other, I (and a lot of others) feel that it is in somewhat of the same universe. Since my map is based on the mid and eastern gulf coast, I feel that New Orleans cannot be missed in the game. Since Mafia 3 already featured New Orleans in their own iteration as New Bordeaux, it is only fitting to add it in the game. Especially since it is the only franchise of a TakeTwo company which uses the same scale as the GTA Maps. In example, Saint Denis would never be able to be added to the game due to its much smaller scale (3x smaller) than its GTA counterpart.

In addition to that, changing the Bayou gradually into the Everglades might be the best thing yet, especially for gameplay purposes if we ever get a similar map like this :)

*I might add some (old) plantations, since I completely forgot about those :')

Fun fact: I actually started out this map to see if I can create a more convincing leak than the fake leak of the Project America's map.
I wondered if I should have posted it on 4chan or Reddit as a 'leak', but I chose to not do that, since it would be against my moral standard xD

I do hope that fans can see how relatively easy it might be to fake a map. So yeah... That is the story of how and why.
But now it is a project I want to finish and show the world. Perhaps R* might learn from it ;)

Your map is being passed as a 4chan leak.

Edit:

As a gta map i think it has too many buildings (some proportions seem a bit off). For a game like gta i would consider less buildings and more detail. Just my opinion of course.

Even if it's fake. I think the 1985 map so far, in my view, is one the most convincing ones. Things look a bit more proportionate, even if the metropolitan area of Vice City looks a bit big.

You have two big islands, one medium and other smaller ones. In terms of scenery even if the Vice City island looks flat and mostly made of countryside you can offset/compensate that by having missions that rely on traveling to the South American Island which is more mountainous.

Also there's probaly other technical reasons related to the hardware and development/design for this to be a good candidate. Instead of having one big Island of around twice the area of gta v's map, you distance themselves apart so the map doesn't feel too big and overwhelming like gta san andreas. You could also do it like in the leak from u/GTA_VI_Leak having two big maps in the same landmass with transition/fast travel points (similar to Far Cry 2's Map).

my god, it actually made it as a leak. F*cking hell xD

well that was kinda my point, sad but true.

I myself think that the 1985 map is fake, hell I think it was debunked even if I am correct?

At this point we literally have no information about GTA VI, but I rather have a map (like I made) than one that forces you to use a boat or airplane to go to another city.

I feel like Grand Theft Auto is about highway speed chases, about stealing cars, heists, casino's and gangwars. Whereas a south american island would be very cool (hence why I added one in my map), I don't think that having them far out of each other and have the US part just having one city would work.

In my map I tried to create a triangle of major locations: New Bordeaux, Vice City and Santa Valentina (South American island). Imo this would be perfect for gameplay purposes. The South American island would be used as a drugs haven. A location where drugs are made and shipped out from. Then you get Vice City, where the drugs are imported, using bribes etc. and from there on out the drugs are distributed. Is there too much heat? Lets go to New Bordeaux and try other ways to get the drugs into the country. A whole narco's story could be based around this in my opinion :)

That is my thought behind my map and what I would like to see in the future of the GTA series.

Of course the "4chan leak" is being shared on Reddit, with an Imgur link!

Okay, this is a goal for all map makers. Create something that would believably pass off as a leak.

To be fair, I am kinda proud 😅

But it is actually sad though, since it means that us gamers are desperate for the next installment and they show us nothing. And when we get the next installment... I hope it is at least as great as this map I created.

Preferably bigger, since well... it is the twenties already... Flight Simulator literally recreated the entire world, The Crew from a bunch of years ago lets you drive in a map featuring dozens of cities and environments.

At least they should be able to make it 4x the size of GTA V (which was made for hardware from 2004/5). This is also why larger maps created by a bunch of us aren't that weird imo. Actually would make sense for a game focussed on stealing cars and highspeed chases on land, water and in the air.

Extra note: if you want to know my fascination with the Mid and Eastern gulfcoast and why it fits perfectly together (from Baton Rouge to Miami), hence why I made this map, watch: American Made (on Netflix in a lot of countries).

@ivarblaauw just out of curiosity, which software did you use to make your map? It looks 3D but something tells me it's possibly collaged together in Photoshop.

I used photoshop and images from Mafia III and the real life gulfcoast :)

And of course some areas created solely by photomanipulation.

I've started on a concept to expand the GTA V map to cover the entire contiguous United States.

SNxXWED.png

The bridge near Paleto Bay is an extension of the Great Ocean Highway that will eventually continue up to San Fierro (top left). I've also started on a freeway to Las Venturas (the interchange to that is south of Grapeseed and east of Sandy Shores). There will be another freeway to San Diego that will start just east of Los Santos, and the freeway heading east out of San Fierro will continue up to Sacramento and eventually run all the way to Liberty City.

Helloo Everyone

I'm a new user on the forum and all these maps are amazing, can someone pls answer me which software do you use to make these maps,

I tried using Gimp but it's not what I'm looking for, also i'm looking for software that can support large files, since the maps that I plan to draw will be quite enormous

No, the original map wasn't debunked. Only the edited map by the AMA redditor.

Still, it could be a good fake. We don't know.

Hey everyone!!

Some time ago I posted how I am making a GTA model city of Riga, the capital of Latvia. It's now done! Lintport is its name.

It was very exiciting to make- somehow to condense all of my home city into just two medium-sized islands, while still capturing the many boroughs and their unique qualities, iconic landmarks (bridges, stations, parks, housing projects), traffic arteries, local culture and lore of the time period in a way that it would cohere well. There are a LOT of little references spread out.

I modelled it after how Riga looked during the mid-90s which, if there ever would be a perfect era for a game about crime, this would most definitely be this turbulent time of newly restored independence- there were attempts at privatisation, Ponzi-scheming banks, mafia wars led by some very eccentric characters and swindlers.

Very happy to have it finished. Visually, it's pixelated, just like mid-2000s GTA map images, ones which I am playing along with.

This is where the borders of the islands would lie in the real life:

Also, I developed a geocities-inspired interactive web-app where you can hover over the different boroughs and read about them. I made it in a way, that could believably exist within a game, where you open it in a early internet cafe:

https://www.visitlintport.com/

And finally, I made a version in the style of the region's main maps producer "Jāņa sēta" with street names, markings of different places of interest:

janaseta.png

Very happy about the result- and fulfilling a childhood dream.

I could babble about these for hours, but I'll just leave it here. :))

The level of detail in this is insane, it looks like a irl city road map from the 2000s

Worked on this a little on my free time and I'd say it's like 55% done, I still want to add names for roads, highways, towns, etc. I figured I'd post it now since it looks like everyone in here is starting on their own version of SA.

Looks great. This may already be my favorite HD version of San Andreas. My only complaint is that the San Diego parody looks downscaled and could be remedied by simply enlarging that region a bit. Look at the freeway interchanges there, compared to the ones in Los Santos.

I don't plan to stop with San Andreas, I want to make the entire country. I know this is a huge task, but I'll work on it when I can. I obviously can't do it all alone, I'd need help with things, especially paths, peds, and 2d effects (mainly working police sirens right now), and probably a lot more.

Also, I made a cop car for San Diablo.
