I can't believe there is no fix for this, the water sure is ugly with a Radeon card! I am thinking of selling my 5770 and getting an nvidia card instead. Or just using my new Xbox 360 slim wink.gif

With my card the water looks normal, so there is no need to generalize.

Everyone who has this problem has an ATI card, I appreciate that not everyone who has an ATI card has the problem.

It is still a pretty annoying bug, but actually my least annoying out of many:

For me the game crashes after anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes, even with memrestrict settings etc.

Sometimes it fails to load

Sometimes I can't complete a mission, e.g. I go to play darts or something, then I can never take them home and can't start any other missions.

Whilst this is off topic, I am just fed up with how many bugs this game STILL has so long after release, even with all the patches. I couldn't care about water really, I just want to play it without crashing in the middle of missions.

Take2 support have been no use at all.

Hmm, I wonder if ATi are even aware...

It's questionable whether this is their problem or not. It's like the Batman game, which didn't have AA for ATI cards. It wasn't a bug with ATI drivers or a hardware fault, but it was down to the way the game has been ported to PC.

Well, seeing as R* have made no effort to fix it then at least if ATi knows they might have a dialogue with them to get something.

Why would they? Do you think ATI sells any cards over three year old bad console ports? Granted, ATI should be more in contact with developers, but that's two way communication.

I have this problem too. My graphics card is an Asus ATI HD 5770. Does anyone using an Nvidia card have this problem?

To make it clear exactly what the problem is I took some screen captures. This is what the water is supposed to look like on each of the quality settings (low, medium, high, very high)...

Low:

Medium:

High:

Very High:

...and this is what it looks when it glitches.

The problem is that no matter what my water quality setting is on, it only works properly for a short time (maybe a minute) and then it glitches and the water looks terrible again, even though the water quality setting hasn't changed in the menu. Changing the water quality setting or pretty much any other graphics setting fixes it for a minute or so, then it glitches again.

Tabbing out and back into the game will also refresh the water. Surely there are modders out there who can at least explain why this happens? I don't expect an instant solution but I'd like to know why it happens.

Some aspects of it are not bad, like looking out at the water was fine from land with the clearer reflections but being on the water not so good.
