You don't have to come here. Remember, this is not a democracy. It is a site provided to you for free, with a few rules to keep dicks and idiots out.

Yep. The rules are there for a reason. To keep order, to keep the sites funding, to keep members etc.

And it ain't a democracy. Any constitutional or legal right to freedoms you enjoy in the real world are not rights here. They are privileges, given to you by the mods. If they WANTED to, the mods and admins could ban us all in one fell swoop. I've been in communities that are a lot more strict, and a lot less. I think GTAForums has got the balance between order and law and freedom and fun just right.

You think this website is bad? There's other forums that don't even allow you to swear.

You think this website is bad? There's other forums that don't even allow you to swear.

This.

It's actually pretty lax here as long as you don't flame, harass, be racist, spam, circumvent swear filter, post porn, post shock images, post viruses, post links to anything related to the previously mentioned do-not-do's.

Basically, you know, use your common sense.

As previously mentioned, be glad you're allowed to swear, even if it is filtered.

Hell you must not have ever seen The Pit™.

You don't even have have to be there, someone could've made a topic about wanting you banned, and with a little more people supporting it, you're gone.

Glad I wasn't around those times, it was utter chaos in that section.

Well The mods do have rules for a reason. As Posted Above, I Personaly think that the mods rules are awsome. There just trying to keep order ^_^. And plus i dont think a forum with no rules would be much help or intresting anyway you gotta have some.

You do realize that was all part of an April Fools joke, right? SYN wasn't actually banned until a couple years ago and 'nuj wasn't a mod back then either.

I've gotten like forty verbal warnins myself, and a Picture warning of MM holding a bat, but that didn't encourage me to make a topic about how sad or scared as balls as I was.

I honestly have no problem with the rules here. There's not a lot of sites that let you talk about anything you want and curse in all of your posts. You just seem to be some asshole complaining because you made a thread thats been asked 100 times and a mod locked it.

I thin I'll be danger by writing this, by...

I agree there must be rules, but I think they're used too strictly.

Bumping an old topic even if you're saying something interesting: topic instantly closed.

Opening a new topic because similar topics already exist but they're all very old and you don't want to bump them: topic instantly closed.

And let's not forget that mods have the annoying habit of instantly closing any topics they don't find interesting enough, instead of just forgetting about them. If they're really uninteresting, they will surely be replaced by newer ones as people won't post there. If they're interesting, they're not worth closing them.

Examples:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=438456

They also have the even more annoying habit of closing an entire topic when a few people start posting silly posts instead of just banning those guys and let the other posters use the topic.

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=428554

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?act=ST&f=7&t=426501

Besides, modding topics are usually instantly closed. OK, They are posted where they don't belong, but moving them to their right place it's as easy as closing them.

And please don't put the excuse that they are more strict forums. Yes. It's completely true. I could name some. But as I heard somewhere, is Dracula less scary because werewolves exist?

First topic was pretty much advertising nobody cares about.

Second would've gotten worse if it hadn't been locked.

Third isn't even locked!

Besides, what you say is helpful is not always helpful to others.

We lock topics when we feel they need locking, ie if we left most topics unlocked especially in the modding areas. You'd end up with 2 pages of people going wrong section, omgf n00b. Just adding their 2cents that isn't needed.

Let's see what Urban Dictionary says about Gtaforums:

gtaforums.com is a online message board, thats full of ignorant hippocratic people who basically are a bunch of assholes, who think they rule the f*cking GTA community, because they were the first to make a forum for it, and there for are the largest forum with the most members, to date.

comparing with the number of users, this is the slowest replying and the most inactive forum, because people are afraid to post, all people who post comments that are above the understanding of these pore excuses for a moderator ussualy are banned and their topic locked.

also this forum is full of stupid n00b users who usually make replicated topics, so there is about 10 topics on the same subject. this could be fixed if this board would have a normal FAQ, which it hasn't. because people are afraid to ask questions, and yet again get banned.

admin/moderators are allowed to do almost everything (humiliate lower class users, make spam topics, post images with pornographic content, and so on and so on) while if the user do such thing there banned and their topic locked.

moderators and respected* users usually f*ck the n00b users off and ban them or warn them (which is the same thing as a ban, only temporary and after this time you won't want to come back), instead of teaching them how to use a board properly, or directing them to rules** topic

yet again the admins are doing nothing to make this forum any better, by alowing "hate" topics like: "xbox360 vs PS3". this can't be constructive discussion, because the name of the topic already means that people will argue and hate on each other, there for provoking admins to another "ban rampage" in which people who support the xbox360 will get banned as an result, because GTAforums are full of poor PS2 fanboys.

the core/main servers of this board is located Houston, Texas. and there for its no wonder that users and mods are such f*ckers, because there pure rednecks.

*a cocksucker to GTAforums

**a guide how to become a slave*

gtaforums is the worst thing that ever happened to the internet, since Fantasy MMORPG.

I put third because it talks about locked topics, but I still don't understand your comment since it's locked too.

Second topic: I see absolutely no reason to lock that topic. Nobody insulted anyone, nobody posted offensive comments, nobody broke any rule. I don't understand why you say it would have been got worse.

About your last comment: what you said could be reversed. What you and the mods don't find helpful coulb be to anothers. If it's really not helpful, people will most likely forget about it very soon.

Well, either way, the third topic was kinda pointless, because the topic is was made about wasn't even locked. Unless it was at the time of its posting...

wait, are you calling me an ignorant asshole or something by quoting that information?

This is the Debates and Discussion area.

What's the point in opening a debate if only one side is shown and discussed?

This topic is a bit old - but I just loved it. When people talk about dealing with the stuff at hand - with what is in front of them - This is It.

f*cking GTAForums is f*cking f*cked! I don't mind it being f*cking f*cked, but it is. I quite like it sometimes, and other times less, but it is the way it is.

I mean the moderators are annoying, but so is the world. you know - hell is other people and all that. - And yes, they impose their dictates (the root word of dictatorship is?) on the rest - but - I mean - really? Which one of us doesn't live in a world which is much less free than this forum? Just talking about our family, our country's justice system or democracy, I mean - I love GTAF when I compare it not only to other BBoards, but also to ... "real-world politics"

I bet they banned you for spelling errors. biggrin.gif

this is not true. Besides it's the internet who gives a sh*t. OOO wow you got cyberhumiliated, your life is now over.

this is not true, I always see mods/admins/respected users help n00bs out. You must've just been a lameass.

lol'd at this. Most of the mods/admins are from the UK and a few other countries. The only mod or admin from TX is Mainland Marauder and he's a cool dude. not to mention I'm from the south originally so STFU fa*got!

ooo wow, you made an UrbanDictionary page because you were pissed from being banned for probably being a lamer n00b homo. icon14.gif

The forums are run how they are for practical reason. Some of them might be performance-oriented, for quality control, and so that the advertising that allows a forum this large to keep running wont be pulled. To echo myself slightly, the admins put a lot of man hours into making this place enjoyable and go beyond what they have to to make it fun with stuff like the annual awards and keeping the forum gangs in existence. There's really nothing to complain about if you just don't spam or post gifs of meat-spin in gen chat.

Moderators don't ban anyone for grammatical errors AFAIK. If then more than 100000 members would be banned.
