oldage
*facepalm* you're completely missing the point. the build he put up is an EXAMPLE, to show the price difference between a prebuilt and when you build the same system yourself. Ryan
Thats cool But don't you think that the CPU is really expensive unless you are RICH and if you r RICH why you build it your self? just buy the ALIEN WARE AREA-51ALX and it Looks AWESOME OR You should use some parts that can give good performance and Quality but not expensive like that That was just a comparison to show how much money you can save by building your own computer. You can use different components. Yeah, basically what he said. I also used high end PC's for the comparison because the price difference is more evident then compared to a cheep build. Then you should name your topic as "How To Build Your Own ALIEN WARE AREA-51ALX (I will not show you)" and one thing you didn't mentioned how to build it you only mentioned which components it will take and their work But nice work by showing some good components Are you retarded? WSD1993
I've actually built all of my computers on carpet lol never had any negative issues but regardless ill keep that tip in mind. To new people adding thermal paste, use very very little. a small coat works great but too much can muck up your processor. Actually, as long as you are grounded, you can build a PC anywhere! Its Just not recommended. And about the Thermal Paste, yes a small amount. You can also create a pea sized dap in the middle of the CPU and then add the heatsink on. I think trying to decipher what he said was more confusing Lol true Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/446714-how-to-build-your-own-desktop-pc/?do=findComment&comment=1060019929 Share on other sites
bbllplaya1111
As somebody who has never built his own computer before, I have a few small questions. The first is, is the graphics cards listed minimum power requirement an accurate indication of the psu needed for the computer? Or is it a good idea to go a little beyond the recommended level? The second question is regarding operating systems. As my computer is pretty low end and four years old, I have started researching what I should be looking for. One website distinguished a "64 bit system" from I think a "16 bit" operating system. I'm not entirely sure what the distinction is, since the article didn't go into too much detail. Is one better than another? What are the differences? Is one better than another? What are the differences? Go 64-bit. There's really no reason to stick to 32-bit (that's the other OS they were talking about) anymore as pretty much everything is moving to 64. As for the PSU, go beyond it. The PSU is one of those things you don't want to skimp on (either brand or power). Get a good brand and overshoot the power by as much as your budget can handle. WastedEngland
Hey, Thanks for the great guide! Really helped me out as I recently built my own computer from scratch. Building it was a challenge, Especially fitting the CPU Cooler as the instructions were quite vague. Otherwise it all went smoothly. I definitely understand how people who build thier own PC feel a sense of achievement after completing it, as I feel great achievement and pride as i've had no failures or problems so far. I feel like I almost know my computer inside out as I built it, something you wouldn't get with a store bought/pre-built and even a made to specification PC. Being able to start afresh with a new computer that isn't filled up with useless trials and crap I don't need or want is also a great plus Thanks Again Unlimited Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/446714-how-to-build-your-own-desktop-pc/?do=findComment&comment=1060107642 Share on other sites

Wolf68k
No I didn't read all of this topic but I did read a far amount of the guide. I also did notice a few comments about the thermal compound, so I'm going to add mine. I think it should be pointed out that these days most CPUs with included heatsink have all the thermal compound you need already applied to the heatsink itself. Also more and more third-party heatsink will have thermal compound already applied as well. Lastly I know this is more for advanced builders but not all thermal compound is the same and more importantly applied the same. With Arctic Silver 5, and others like it, you need only about the size of a grain of dry white rice applied to the CPU itself and spread out evenly. Mean while very small dab is applied heatsink spread around and then as strange as it sounds it's wiped off; the idea is only to fill in all of the micro imperfections on the surface. Always read the manufacturer's directions on how to apply their brand and the type of compound you got. yoječ
It does have SATA cables, but no screws (you should receive them with the computer case). @OP - I think you should add Enermax to trusted PSU producers. Maybe SuperFlower as well - in the recent time they've been releasing some really top notch power supplies. And also Fortron/FSP. friendly luggage
It does have SATA cables, but no screws (you should receive them with the computer case). Ok thank you In a few months time after my exams and holiday, I'm thinking of building my own computer. It will be a first and I will let you know how it goes. Hopefully it will run ok as I did my school work experiance at a place where they refurbish old computers and send them to Africa. The computers were very old though as most had Pentium 3 cpu's and like 20GB HDD's We had to install Windows XP on everyone of them, seeing the old internet explorer gave me some memories. I've also replaced the ram and graphics card in this pc as well but there's no point in upgrading this outdated pc anymore so that's mainly why I want to build a new one. Oh and for gaming to Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/446714-how-to-build-your-own-desktop-pc/?do=findComment&comment=1060523771 Share on other sites
abottig
The PSU section is a little jacked up, but that's because the PSU industry is jacked up. Kweckzilber
In the Common terms sections, I'd like to clear up a few things. ATA is Advanced Technology Attachment IDE is Integrated Drive (Device?) Electronics It would be better if PCIe is added to the definition of PCI-Express The abbreviation of Hard Disk Drive is HDD, not HHD. It is not exactly correct that new PCs do not use PATA/IDE. Just that some new boards eliminate them since IDE cables are costly and almost all new drives are SATA Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/446714-how-to-build-your-own-desktop-pc/?do=findComment&comment=1060619779 Share on other sites

Anton4291
I am considering building myself a new PC in the coming months (most likely before the end of the year). I will be building it myself and I was wondering if some of you guys could help me out? My budget is about £1000-£1200, which components would you recomend I buy (I will be using it for gaming, if that makes a difference)? Also, where would you recomend I buy the components from if I live in Britain? My friend, who also happens to be building a PC later this year too, suggested purchasing them from Amazon.
