Your taking what I am saying out of context which seems like mostly what you do on this forum,  icon13.gif

How the hell did I "quote you out of context" you basically said you had no intention of using this patch and went on to say "those complaining should just play the game and stop complaining". If you haven't used the patch then it is wrong for you to tell those that have to not complain.

It seems like MOST people that post on here complaining about the new patch this, the new patch that, are talking like they expect what came out to be a miracle fix all to make the game run fluid and perfect.  well, no game is perfect.

This is a new patch and Rockstar have a history of breaking things whilst fixing them. No one here is expecting the game to be "perfect", but we should at least expect the same functionality as the console version shouldn't we ? Oh and by the way from what I see this patch still doesn't bring the PC version up to the same standards as the console functionally. If they have altered the physics engine to make it less demanding then that should be brought to light because it is further erosion of the PC versions functionality But hey we should apparently just accept that according to you.

There are always going to be problems with everything that comes out. Just be happy with what you have is all I am saying.

Erm no when I pay for something I expect to receive a credibly, working product. This game is as far from that as you can get and after 6 patches it is still no where near a "decent product" . Nowq if Rockstar had given the game away for free then I would agree with you we should be "grateful for what we got" but they didn't people paid good money for the PC version and yet we still have less functionality than the console version and if this physics thing pans out it means they removed even more from the PC version.

I'm not going to argue with you, to me, its just a game. that runs fine for what I expect from it. I could see people being real mad if they were paying a monthly fee for rockstars service to update the game and make it better, to find out that the patch they released only ruined the game more. But again.. OPINION. But I suppose I cant really complain either since i purchased the game for 20 bucks, so its not like I paid big bucks for it.

I understand where you are coming from however now that I have cooled down a bit and read over what i have said and what others and you have said. But for this particular post, I think this person is just getting caught up in the hype of people finding things wrong with the game, and his mind is playing tricks on him making him think that the physics have been changed. Who knows, I could be wrong.

It's not that people are finding things wrong with the game, there are fundamental and simple things wrong with the game that even the a most basic dev should get right.

As Charlie said, it's all about the detail and GTA IV has so many screw ups it's not even funny and silly basic errors. Now patch 6 still screws the shadows up and how can you get such things wrong is beyond me. Just Cause 2 gets all the shadows right, it took them one go without a patch and they have a moon.

Good point, I have no experience with designing/ coding games so I really cant speak on the situation too much, I'm just giving my opinion on it. but I imagine, with such a large game like GTA IV, with as many dynamics that it has. Its probably pretty tough to get every thing right. But after 6 patches, You think they should have the hang of it by now. turn.gif

You missed the point of what Charlie said. The console version was done right from it's release. The PC version wasn't done right, like the shadows and moon. In later patches they introduced new bugs and didn't fix things.

I have never played the console version so I cant speak on that part is why I did not comment on it, So the console version does not have any bugs? or just not nearly the problems that the PC version has?. I know one thing tho. I waited so long to purchase the PC version because of all the horror stories I heard when it was first released, But then patches started coming out. some people had luck, some people did not. I decided to take the risk and bought the game off of eBay. I am still glad that I did, but as I stated (well I think I have anyways) I do not play online. So all the new patches have no effect on me really. I found one that works for me and I have stuck with it.

As I said, the PC version missed out the moon and has various shadow bugs which the console version doesn't have. In other words, they did the console version properly and then messed the PC version up.

All platform versions of the game should be identical, nothing missing between versions. Now if the moon and shadows are rendered wrong because of driver bugs, fine, but they're not because the PC version has been hampered with such no driver bugs and missing features right from it's release.

Having the all the features mssing, the moon, shadows that the PC do not

have while the consoles HAVE, then the Grand Theft Auto: IV PC,

totalley a big mistake.

Its not fun anymore.

They have screwed this game for good.

EVERY patch will break the game even more.

How in the world can this happen?

I think I'll get off the GTA IV disc and forget about it confused.gif

Because of the detached shadows, all objects/cars/peds looks like they are floating.

Man, I dont like the game anymore.

You haven't even used the patch so how can you judge on whether after 6 patches the game isn't a functional product?

Secondly the physics in this game for the most part is the same, there are a few minor differences like when I crash on the motorcycle I seem to roll on the ground further and a little longer. The changes are really minor though and you can't really say it is more or less intensive. Hell if anything I might even just be imagining things. Most people as you can see from this topic don't even notice it. Don't get so hyped up.

Thirdly this game far surpasses the quality of the console versions. The console versions had lots of bugs as well when they were released, and there is pop in and low frame rates on both versions. Explain to me how the console versions are of higher quality than the pc version. This patch was spot on.

The difference between us and them is that on the pc we can actually do things to try and fix the issues we get by changing settings and modding files, while with them they have very little options.

I can live with there being no moon and the odd floating texture here and there. Whilst the bugs of the old patches were sloppy, they weren't the end of the world.

Patch 6 however has completely ruined the game for me. The pop-in is horrendous, whether settings are high or low - I never used to get any. How on earth did this slip through the play-testing? I'd defintiely revert to the previous update, but then I won't be able to use multiplayer.

None one said the console versions didn't have bugs. How about you actually read what he said properly?

Have you seen the shadows in this patch? Again, wrong, where as the console versions render the shadows correctly.

To me now it seems like some people are just looking for any little thing to point out to complain, Just play the damn game, if you want a better game. Make one yourself, Until then, stop complaining. nothing is ever perfect.

On a side note. I'm not updating to this new patch for the simple fact I dont play MP and I'm getting EFLC on disc  monocle.gif

So let me just see if I have this straight ? You have no intention of using this patch but you think those that are using it should "stop complaining". Many of the things that Rockstar fixed in this patch were also "dismissed" by people when the problems were first found. If people don't point out the problems they are having then they are never going to get fixed.

If people are having problems with the patch then they should quite rightly point them out and ask others on here if they have had a similar experience. I personally haven't said much about the new patch because I have no intention of installing GTA 4 again to try the patch out. However from what I have seen from the comments so far it doesn't look like it is worth bothering with the patch at all.

I bought the Xbox version. Very satisfied, everything worked like it should.

Then i bought the PC version. Total waste of money. If i buy a product, i expect it to work without much hassle. But R* has been sh*tting on us, PC gamers. Faulty patches, bad performance optimalisation, faulty patches, disable modding abilities. f*ck R* PC division. I'll never buy something for PC R* made again. I already spent money on another version. I expected the PC version was even better regarding graphics. But no.

I'm tired of defending R*, believing they had a hard time, but now in my opinion, they f*cked up hard. Almost one and a half year of extra after-release developping, enough for EA to develop a total new NFS game. Seeking out bugs and fixing them shouldn't be so unsuccesful in such a long term. f*ck them from now on. The 6th patch wiped out all of my trust in R* PC. f*ck it. I'm going back to 1.0.5.0, enjoying my superior graphics (ENB) and awesome mods. I'm even throwing cracks on it now.

That's it for now. If R* manages to fix this in the next patch (if ever coming), they'll regain my trust. If else, I'm pirating every R* PC game from now on. Maybe they're not even worth pirating for the PC. Waste of HDD space. Still buying the games for consoles, gameplay is awesome, but technical the company is 100% sh*t.

no offence btw, sorry that i quoted you, went kinda off-subject. but i had to lose this anger. alien.gif

It's just like I've been saying, PC gaming will die from it's own ineptitude. I'll never buy another PC game.

Just Cause 2 gets all the shadows right, it took them one go without a patch

DX10 required. That is all.

Thirdly this game far surpasses the quality of the console versions. The console versions had lots of bugs as well when they were released, and there is pop in and low frame rates on both versions. Explain to me how the console versions are of higher quality than the pc version. This patch was spot on.

How is that gun recoil feature working out for you on the PC version ? oh wait the PC version doesn't have it does it ? No they removed it completely from the PC version because it worked with the joypad but not the mouse. So a fundamental game play element (and yes your gun spraying bullets is a fundamental game play element) is present on the console version but not the PC version.

Up till patch 6 the PC version also had missing game assets (such as the moon) lower driver spawn distance than the console and no shadows at night. Apparently these three things have been fixed it only took them 17 months to do it mind you

I never said the PC version was not better graphically, it would be a bit hard for the game to be worse graphically on the PC than it is on the consoles. Although from what I have read of this new patch and the new shadows Rockstar managed to achieve that with the shadows. I never said the console version was perfect, the console version certainly did have problems with missing textures and some in game bugs. However the PC version has them and MORE. Not only do we have to put up with the bugs that were present in the console version we have to put up with new ones they introduced with their sloppy PC port.

I have noticed though that when people start to find problems in a new patch we get people going "it's your imagination/PC/drivers" etc etc. It happened with Patch 5 people found problems and other people tried to debunk them and make the complainers look silly. Yet in patch 6 the problems that were identified in patch 5 got fixed ......... hm odd that isn't it if it was our imagination/pc/drivers.

Now I don't know if this dumbing down physics thing actually has occurred I don't have the game installed any more. However I would have thought people would look at Toronto's track record with patches and at least keep an open mind as to whether they have tinkered with the physics engine to make things run faster.

None one said the console versions didn't have bugs. How about you actually read what he said properly?

Have you seen the shadows in this patch? Again, wrong, where as the console versions render the shadows correctly.

The shadows in the new patch are by far better than the consoles. Yes the new shadows do have an issue where it doesn't make the shadow for peoples feet so it looks like the shadow is floating. But so what, this is how the shadows in the consoles looked.

Look at the end of that video where you can see the shadows, they are just completely hideous.

Now lets compare that to this

http://www.pctunerup.com/up/results/_20100...12-58-00-79.jpg

The shadows are still way way way better than the console versions. The console versions shadows aren't rendered correctly either and they look sh*tty.

I have gun recoil on my gamepad. What makes you think they removed it? The pc and consoles are the same in this instance except for the fact that the consoles don't have keyboard and mouse support.

Patch 6 fixed the issues though. And the shadows at night thing didn't take 17 months to fix because the issue only came with the 5th patch and they fixed that issue as soon as they released the next patch. You are right that this game used to have those issues, but they don't now, so I'm asking how does this game have worse functionality than the consoles now?

I never said anything about the shadow quality compared to the console. I said the shadows are wrong in the fact that they render wrong and make objects look like they're floating rather than being directly attached to the object.

By the way. You're confusing graphics quality with quality of the PC game. We've always said the PC version looks superior, but the implementation for the PC version isn't because of the stuff mentioned.

The console version shadows look how they look for aesthetic reasons. They didn't always look like that, they were made grainy to accommodate the blur filter.

As you can see in this early beta shot, the shadows aren't grainy at all:

That's when they hadn't fully developed the smart blur filter.

Maybe taken from the PC version?

These shadows really looks nice.

But hell, the shadows now looks nice, but not attached to the object.

Stupid kinda job.

I made heaps of videos with heaps of ragdoll physics and running over people... But i heard you guys say that the ragdoll physics in the new patch kinda sucks.. I haven't got the new patch because my internet is slow, and i cannot download it. The ragdoll physics makes the game more realistic.

Nice way to go almost completely of topic guys.

Regarding the Ragdoll physics, I just tested two installs side by side and on the one patched to the latest version 6, it is as if Ragdoll physics no longer exist or like they have been censored or preconfigured.

When you hit pedestrians with your car, they no longer feel as though they have much weight, they no longer spin around high up into the air and it feels like you can predict exactly how each and every pedestrian will behave when hit and when they land.

Just try ramming your car into pedestrians in the game and you will see. It is probably gone unnoticed by most because they only have one install. After all, most users only install the same game once.

I might not have noticed this if not for some one else mentioning it because it is easy to miss or glance over.

However, from what I have seen from the comments so far it doesn't look like it is worth bothering with the patch at all.

This is the biggest problem we have at this point. Since you're gone, nobody gives a f*** about the PC version anymore. This forum has completely fallen apart and we really struggle now. I spent the whole day yesterday testing the patch and what I came up with is pretty frightening. Basically, R* fixed almost everything we asked for but at the same time excessively overdid it. What we're left with is graphical glitches far beyond what we had before. With 1.0.3.0 you only get minor bugs.

This is when we need you the most, Charlie. It's the end of the road for us. Seriously, it's kind of no surprise to me that the world is a total piece-a-s*hit and corporations want to screw us, so I really don't understand why you find it so appalling. You might as well enjoy what you have and do your best to improve it.

I don't know if it's a psychological thing or what but I believe the peds physics are in fact different. When I ram a someone, they go flying over the roof of the car almost all the time. Before it used to varies from getting thrown over the car, torso pin to the bumper or radiater and some would hit the windshield and depending the direction of the car the peds will fall of the ither side etc. Though it's not as bad as the O.P made it sound, it's still funny running the peds over.

This is a request, not a suggestion.

Regarding the physics, I havent noticed a change but maybe its because i dont have a previous install to check it up.

Well, he has valid points and the patch does make things worse for a lot of people, which is the usual thing. Rockstar should have a trophy for patching the game so consistently bad.

I really don't know how some of you people are capable of enjoying this HOBBY. Do any of you remember what it felt like to play video games and just have fun with them? I'm highly doubting.

And good 'ole CharmingCharlie, STILL around acting like a lunatic at every turn. That guy is going to end up in a mental institution. If he isn't there already.

How about we talk about the physics people, you have taken this topic to a completely different direction than I was interested.

It seems a few others here have noticed the exact same things I did with the physics. The peds fly over the car when you hit them like they are made out of rubber. They don't fly like real humans would, they fly like toys.

Also VERY IMPORTANT I have emailed Boris Vorontsov which is the creator of ENBseries and he told me this new patch requires a new version of ENBseries which he will not develop because he hates this new patch too much.

So this patch has also killed ENBseries which imo, was a very important asset for this game that truly made the game look good by removing that brown look and by adding proper shaders for everything.

He said that he will develop a new version of ENBseries once this mess gets fixed, if it ever does!

It's very clear that the people at RockStar think we are all retards incapable of taste and they consider themselves gods of art and optimization. This can be judged by the fact that nothing from what the fanbase produces is ever talked about or taken into consideration.

Valve treasure their fanbase and always use the better things that their fanbase produce, not the case with RockStar though , they think they are the supreme artists and their decisions are always the best. Puny fans do not know what it's best...

For me it is obvious that this patch was done in a short time and it was added just now to make people buy the new expansion packs. They didn't care about gta4 before this, after 17 months they reminded that they have a game called gta4 on pc and decided it's a good idea to release the dlc there too and why not make a new patch fast that boasts that it remakes the game and fixes everything. They just want more money. This patch is a lame excuse and because of this

DO NOT BUY THE DLC AS A FORM OF PROTEST
