You can not run the disc version without a disc legally. The Steam version does work without the disc because it doesn't come with the disc.

I know that I cant but it's only posible in Steam Version.... Rockstar should do this too in Disc Version...but we not change this ;

Rockstar isn't going to do this ever again because of Piracy. They tried this with Bully PC version and it was pirated more than purchased.

So the disc check will stop people downloading the game from torrents? My friend pirated it and he doesn't have any problems with DRM. I guess I have to suffer because I decided to give R* my money.

I never said it made sense. But that is the way of the industry now.

LOL, that ain't ever gonna happen, kid. GTA IV runs on DirectX 9. AA requires DirectX 10 to run on GTA IV, thanks to IV's deferred lighting system. The game would have to be recompiled to support DX 10.

That part has been a major problem for me.

 

It had actually caused my game of GTA4 to stop working. I downloaded the patch and installed it. The game stated to me that I needed to log-in to RGSC, then when I chose to log-in (from the new way of doing it in the patch (I do have an account)), it stated to me that it wouldn't log me in, and the game wouldn't start up (not even when I picked to play offline in Single Player mode).

 

That caused me to uninstall the game, and then re-install it (so there's no patch present).

 

This happened on this patch and the newer patch.

 

I don't want to re-install the game again for a 3rd time.

 

What's going on?

 

EDIT: The patch works now (latest one), and the game works, too...but I am still unable to be signed in to RGSC. I can be logged in when I am on the Internet, but it won't let me log-in when I am in the game, so I am unable to save my progress.

Going to medium is not an option. I was able to alleviate the problems with the previous shadow type, but steam has forced the game to patch to that new EFLC version. Is there any way to bring back the older shadows?

No. Your best bet is to turn shadows down to low or off and leave everything else where it is. Night shadows can still be on though.

The older shadows have this exact same problem. It was less noticeable because the shadows weren't sharp and crisp:

I actually don't understand why most people hadn't noticed that the shadows were like this since the beginning. There were many requests to have the shadows be sharp and crisp. Now that you have it, people complain that it drains resources and looks bad. We might never see an RDR port with all these complaints.

 

Now for the reason I'm here, does anyone have a link to every patch for IV and EFLC?

I know this is a bump, but since it is a Pinned topic, it shouldn't matter? Anywho, Just a heads up, but the Download link to the Patch on the first page is Dead-it will not work on Firefox OR IE 8. Any chance of fixing it Mods/Admins.? Also, where is the Download link for Patch 4, since it seems to be the most stable version for weaker systems?

Not happy with the patch. With shadows on high I average about 10fps less than previous patch with shadows on very high. The new shadow system only looks better in screenshots. Its worse when actually playing due to the short draw distance.
