AmirGTR
I'm having some problems playing the game with the 1.0.6.0 patch on my old crappy 7600GT. 1. Missing some particle effects: Look at the rear wheels. You only see some black smoke coming from the tires. Normally you'd see a realistic white smoke instead. If you think that may be normal, look closely at the smoking dancing man and his smoking ex-taxi. I just hit them with a rocket launcher a few seconds ago. They both sound and seem like they're on fire. But, where's the fire? 2. Blacked out screen: Something exploded in my face and for the next few minutes this is what I was seeing. Until I decided to turn off the shadows that were on low. Later it happened again, with shadows still off. I'm guessing the shadows aren't the issue here, there's something with it. I updated the drivers today. No difference. Aside from waiting till Rockstar decides to do something, does anyone got a way to fix this?

Well, you're very much under the minimum spec for this game so you're bound to get problems.

Black particles thing starts after 3rd patch (everything is OK interiors). After 5th theres no fire / sparks effects. #2. Having the same card as yours this never happend to me. Simulated-AI
I just don't understand the posts and I am quite amazed by R*T for not just flipping out on some of you."HEY I have my computer overclocked to hell and the game setting 100% everything, why am I seeing lag?? I shouldn't be seeing lag" Really people? Just turn everything up and throw a tantrum ??? Really ? STFU! The new patch is useless! Dont say otherwise... Are you a friend of Rockstar? If yes, then i would like my money back for EFLC! GTA 4 runs fine with patch 5. Shut it! The new patch works great for some people, like me. Don't spout crap... OH, i see, for some people... Have you read the boards at all??? THE NEW PATCH IS CRAP! That's a fact. And thats including EFLC! Don't support developers ruining a great game. Because they just did ALL they wanted was extra money for EFLC, and they took the easy way granting better shadows and memory optimizations, instead I, and a lot more got a ruined game! HOW WILL YOU EXPLAIN THAT? of course.the whole f*cking life is one dirty business.so you souldnt blame Rockstar.everyone is like them. I abselutely disagree... Many develop great games, not ruining them... LOL
zorg
What graphics card to you have? Same as yours - 7600GT Should I revert to the 1.0.3.0 patch? And, is reverting it the only way to fix it?1.0.3 is the best for me. Except the black particles thing everything else runs just fine.I was messing with some files trying to fix it but no luck so far. Recently I discovered that the particles are normal when you're inside buildings so maybe theres a hint in it. Thing is I don't know which exact files are responsible for interior/exterior lights. OutOfTimer
What graphics card to you have?Same as yours - 7600GTPerhaps you should try GeForce 4 MX. It's an awesome graphics card... nearly as powerful as yours. My attic is full of state of the art hardware like that. I'm sure R* will finally configure the game to run on it. Just keep nugging them with your posts.
Extortionate
Well, I used to play GTA IV on a C2D 2.66Ghz/7800GTX and it was painful, so I cannot think what a 7600GT would play like.

"Over 9000"? Are you one of those guys from Encyclopedia Dramatica? And I think you missed his point. He's saying that your card is garbage and is similar to those from 2002. Instead you take it as though he thinks that nVidia is superior to Ati.

jeffster38
Not happy with the patch. With shadows on high I average about 10fps less than previous patch with shadows on very high. The new shadow system only looks better in screenshots. Its worse when actually playing due to the short draw distance. The car shadows are really annoying. They have a low quality distant shadow and the high quality doesnt pop in until the car is 10 ft away which just makes it a distraction. It also looks like the cars were raised from the ground a little, they look like they're hovering a couple inches off the ground. The game is also very choppy even with good fps. Cars driving by are all choppy and everything stutters by instead of flowing smoothly when driving. Game was perfectly smooth before the patch. The game was so much more enjoyable with the previous patch I reverted back to it. Check out the car shadow pop up at 1:19 on the cab turning left, every single car does that, watch the red cars shadow pop in at 1:26. Whats the point if they pop in so close? Also watch how everything stutters by when driving, although this guy had the problem before the patch as well.

corvettelover
This is great news , thanks There is NOTHING great here... Yeah, I have no idea what he's talking about, the performance is sh*t, the popup is sh*t and the new shadows look worse and run worst than the old Very High shadows they had before, they were honestly perfect. the current shadows look like the shadows from NFS MW, it actually looks exactly like the shadows from NFS:MW which is from 2005..except they run horrible. I hope they add an option for the older nicer very high shadows, I am sure they won't, but it would be sweet.
Suction Testicle Man
Something about the new shadows isn't right - I used to average 25-30 fps with them set to High using patch 5, but I now average 10-15 fps unless I turn off the shadows altogether. There doesn't seem to be any variation to the performance hit according to quality setting - only Off keeps the game playable. Running 32-bit XP on a Core 2 Duo T8300 with an 8800m GTX. If at first you don't succeed, you fail, and the test will be terminated.
Simulated-AI
There sure is something about the new patch that isn't right! It runs terrible, and doesn't look any better at all. How could they screw this game for good? The game is still on the shelf with no sign of a new patch. OMFG Rockstar, you really srewed up this time

piospi
Hi, I bet somebody spotted that too but I wasn't been able to find whether it was mentioned or not - the blue lighting of Rotterdam Tower after patch 6 seems to be screwed and it isn't seen from far away (no matter what draw/view distance settings I choose). It also seems to apply to EFLC. Is it patch related bug for sure or is it graphic drivers related problem?

grandtheftauto1233
most of these sh*tty patches are making Rockstar's words of "High settings are for future PCs" still true, really rockstar... your making this game slower, then faster, and then ruin it again, this is madness! im tired of GTA IV, the DLCs are barly playable let alone IV, im done, im moving on from IV, i upgraded my pc 2 days before this patch, it was sooo smooth, now this patch, boom back to where my 9800gt was... forget this, patch it RIGHT Edited May 22, 2010 by grandtheftauto1233
a4especibot
I for one have ahd no issues with the latest patch. IMO the shadow management is far cleaner and better looking. However, i do not use night shadows, since they actually seem to introduce more jaggies on some objects. I'm getting a stable framerate of 40-45fps on my old rig of C2Q q9650, 2gb ram , 256mb 8800gt, soundblaster x-fi on medium textures, everything else on high, view/detail distance at 40 each. wotsit
I've lurked at gtaforums for a while, but have only just registered for the first time because I'm so frustrated with this patch. I have a relatively high end machine, have owned GTA:IV since Christmas 2008 and it has always played well. Even though patch 1.0.0.4 had its faults, it was the best in my opinion, and I happily played GTA:IV for months using it. I kind of lost interest in the game around February until I picked up Episodes from Liberty City a couple of weeks ago. I figured I'd install that today after upgrading GTA:IV to 1.0.0.6. Oh boy was that a mistake. The physics almost feel like GTA:IV San Andreas physics now, and there's this annoying stutter every minute or so. The magical feel of the game is just ruined. I even noticed that Glukoza's Schweine no longer plays in the opening scene of the game. Another pivotal moment of the GTA:IV experience trashed. What on earth were they thinking? I'm reading other opinions saying the patch is great, and can only conclude that these people didn't play GTA:IV much before the patch. I expect to be called out for saying that, but I honestly don't understand the chasm between opinions on this. Or maybe the experience on higher-end systems was sacrificed so that people on lower-end systems could have better gameplay? Could that explain it? I don't know. I just know that the only way GTA:IV will become the GTA:IV I know and love again is by reinstalling the game and 1.0.0.4. But I can't be bothered. So I've uninstalled it completely, and I'll be putting the (still shrink wrapped) Episodes From Liberty City on E-Bay. I realise all patches have there pluses and minuses, and will never satisfy everybody, but for them to radically alter gameplay of a game I've been playing for over a year so much... well, it has completely demolished my opinion of Rockstar, and I'm not sure I'll ever buy one of their games again because of what they did here. wotsit
Based on other replies in this thread, I expected that. I'm just shocked that others don't see the quality issues (or don't see them as a big deal). The most obvious is the audio change at the beginning of a new game because that Russian song by Glukoza was down to deliberate artistic direction. (Just like the Michael Jackson song in the opening stage of Vice City.) But some R* developers screwed that up without even noticing? I can't for a second believe they did it deliberately, so how did it get past quality control? The major issues for me however are with the considerably less realistic physics, and stuttering. I rolled back to 1.0.0.4 and those issues just don't exist. In the old days, you only spent hours fiddling around trying to get games to work when your computer was underpowered. Now that R* not only introduce patches that break things badly on systems that played their games fine, but force you to adopt those bad patches if you want to get achievements, use multi-player, etc., I just don't see the point of buying anything from them any more. Ineptitude doesn't even begin to cover what they've done with this patch release. Edited May 23, 2010 by wotsit
