thtdrummerkidd
I'm currently using an 8800GT OC and I want to upgrade to a card that could run GTA IV on the fully max settings on everything. I'm already using a Phenom II X4 3.4Ghz so I don't have to worry about the CPU bottle necking. I'd also like it to play Crysis on pretty decent settings, maybe not totally maxed out. Maybe with everything on high or very high. Also I'm not able to spend more than $350 or $300 Any help would be appreciated. -Th3Art0fRu1n Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/445189-looking-for-a-graphics-card/ Share on other sites
Squishybubs
high end you're probably gonna want to look towards the GTX 295, HD 5870 or 5970, and the GTX 470/480. Let me know if you have any questions. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/445189-looking-for-a-graphics-card/#findComment-1059866813 Share on other sites
mystk
A HD5870 is exceeds your budget by quite a bit. I recommend a HD5850 1GB and if you don't have a sufficient enough PSU (500W minimum from a good brand), something like this for a PSU should do great . thtdrummerkidd
I have a 700W power supply so I should be good. So if I get a HD5850 1GB, I should be able to run GTA IV at the max settings? My 8800GT OC runs pretty hot, how hot does this card tend to run? Also, any Nvidia cards that I could take a look at in that price range? Or are the ATI cards way better than the Nvidia's? I've never really read much on graphics cards so I'm trying to learn. Ebernanut
You won't be able to max everything in GTA4 with a 5850 but I'm not sure if there is a card out there that will allow you to max the settings yet(without command line switches), though I am curious to see how a 5870 2gb or gtx 480 does with the game. A 5850 will allow you to crank the settings up quite a bit more than with the 8800gt and get better performance. My friend has a factory overclocked 5850 with stock reference cooling and he claims that he hasn't heard the fan spin up yet while gaming, and he is on i7 [email protected] ghz so he doesn't have a CPU bottleneck. thtdrummerkidd
Cool so Ill go with the HD5850 then. I don't mind using the command lines either. I appreciate the advice.
