Otter
But, look at me over here. I've got an ipod touch, and I'm seriously considering just grabbing an iphone. I know, right? Just out of curiosity why do you want an iPhone over say an Android device (Droid, Nexus One, etc). ...because all my friends have an iphone. No joke. It's sad, really. Although, to be honest, I quite like everything I can do on my ipod. I think, really, I just need to educate myself - because I have no clue what the competition is capable of these days. Tornado Rex
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ytech_gadg/ytech_gadg_tc1458 Mon Apr 5, 1:52 pm ET Here's the big question on the Monday after any big Apple launch: How many iThings were sold? This time around it was the iPad, and the official sales figures for launch day — about 300,000 — were impressive, although not nearly as stellar as some amped-up analysts had expected. In a press release Monday morning, Apple crowed that its figure of 300,000 iPads sold as of midnight Saturday included pre-orders, sales at Apple stores, and shipments to "channel partners" like Best Buy. Apple also said that iPad users downloaded more than a million apps Saturday, along with a quarter-million volumes from the new iBookstore. Well, that's pretty impressive aye? Not really. and shipments to "channel partners" like Best Buy. Unless all of those stores sold out it's not even close to a true sales figure. .because all my friends have an iphone. No joke. It's sad, really. Although, to be honest, I quite like everything I can do on my ipod. I think, really, I just need to educate myself - because I have no clue what the competition is capable of these days. Fair enough. Like I said I was just curious. I would highly suggest doing a lot of research before deciding to buy. I was I would have with my Storm. Not that I hate my Storm but I could have waited about 3 months and got a Droid and been much, much happier. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
d0mm2k8
Personally, I see Apple products as shiny, overpriced turds that do less for more. Never bought an apple product, never will.

The-King
lAl28d6tbko Ouch. What a waste. How is it a waste? All I see is adding some new functionality to a comparatively worthless product. I now know that I can make smoothies if I am ever to come into possession of an iPad, thank you internet. |PropagandaIncorporated:|: Steam:|: DeviantArt:|: Last.FM|
Otter
Hmm. Checked out the slate. I hope they get a new f*cking marketing department sometime soon. The hardware's awesome/comparable but it's about as sexy as a blowjob from an octogenarian right now.
sjaak327
To be honest, I don't get it, I don't think I see the need for it personally. But of course there's people for everything. Two things to notice, the cheapest 16 GB Ipad (without G3) is costing 499 USD, the soon to be released 16 GB Ipad with G3 a whopping 629 USD, that's 130 USD for just the G3 functionality, now I'm not sure where apple purchases these G3 chips, but charging 130 USD for them is downright ridiculous, seems like day time robbery to me. Also a 16 GB flash memory increase cost a whopping 100 USD. Now, let's just say I would want a tablet device, it would surely not be an Ipad, as they are clearly ripping you off. Otter
The funniest thing about the slate is that it seems like it could be candidate for hackintosh OS. Brilliant.

LOL, yeah it probably will run OSX easily. (with modified kernel, as I guess that Slate is using an Atom processor). Sillyhed2000
So in other news, I visited an Apple store for the first time in my life today. Every employee (and there were at least 10 of them) stops what they're doing and applauds every time a customer leaves the store with a newly-purchased piece of technology? Creeepy. GTA3Freak-2001
Yeah that sounds about right, never been in one myself but I'd imagine that's the sort of thing that goes on and explains the mentality of some Apple fanatics.

Quadropheniac90
A magical(ly lacking) and revolutionary (useless) product at an unbelievabl(y ridiculously high) price... Seriously, Apple was always mostly about design and was always overpriced, and there were often much better products for a much lower price out there, but this newest piece of crap just shows how stupid Apple fanboys are. The iPod and to some extent the iPhone were the last good products by them, products which serve a purpose beyond draining yer wallet. I'll take a machine capable of proper gaming anyday, which can actually be used with 3ds max...
ChanandlerBong
What I find ironic is that the iPad is pitched as a media device. Yet it can only play TWO video codecs. This is why i think the Slate is better, it's Windows, so all you need to do is download the codecs or VLC and (as his Steveness says) BOOM. You can play just about any codec you can think of and more. Typical Apple though, I bet when it comes to the UK it'll be at least £400. For an iPod touch on steroids. Ronnyboy
You know, ever since I lost my touch, I really want an iPad. I would definitely get a Zune or Slate, problem is there is no software out there can transfer all the songs and files from iTunes, crack them, and let me use them for what ever I want. The fact that Apple gets away with this sh*t and people don't complain blows my mind. It really is insane. As for the music. I dunno torrent it or something. They do that because you're actually joining their evil sect, once you buy something from them, you're doomed. Anyway, I just think the iPad is an iPhone for megalomaniacs. For the people who have everything (from Apple), just take something that already exists, enlarge it and throw it at them, sure enough many people will buy it. Even Nintendo followed suit with the DSi XL.

She probably doesn't have the 3.0 firmware, the iPhone didn't support picture messaging up to that point. mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno. ChanandlerBong
@LOJ The reason that your friend can't send media messages is because she is on AT&T. That network doesn't support MMS yet, but the iPhone does in fact support it. Highly annoying for American iPhone customers because AT&T has an exclusivity deal.
