LateForTheSky
Rather than pretend that our character is a goody, would it not be better if we actually were the goody. We could be a chief of police or something, detective, whatever. However, to add a twist, we could also be the bad guy. The most corrupt cop ever. Completely ruthless and as the game progresses, make the player more disgusted with the character so that if u confront them with a decision of saving someone over themself then they will do the selfless thing and see themself die which would almost be a relief. I think this would give a more satisfiying ending than 'yeah, all the money in the world, bad guys dead..... now what' what do u think?
Akavari
The protagonist should be on the bad side to the extent where it's just like hes a tough guy who doesn't give a f*ck about anyone else. But I wouldn't want to play as some pig cop scumbag who embezzles money or kills innocent people to save himself. I think a cool idea for a protagonist would be like in the International; An Interpol agent who is sick of letting criminals get away because the justice system is unreliable, so he hunts them down to satisfy his own sense of justice. If the antagonist is a corporation like in the movie, by the end of the story you would have killed many corrupt businessmen and politicians etc., but realize that even though you killed the 'villain', there are a hundred more to instantly take his place, and the injustices will ultimately continue without anything you can do to stop it. LateForTheSky
I just wanted to create a different feel of a character, because currently we just keep re-inventing the same one and the ending is always bad.

I get what you mean. Every storyline has been pretty much exactly the same except for maybe SA. You play a criminal who is betrayed by another criminal so you kill that guy. General Goose
I wouldn't like to play as a complete monster, or a cop, corrupt, retired or not. What I would like is an antagonist who is undeniably a good guy: a non-corrupt cop who genuinely wants to bring you down for the good of the people. He may be a jerk, or zealous, or rude, but at the end of the day, he should be a genuinely good guy. Lawful Good and all that.
Zee
many, many people thought of this already, and it has been done to death. GTA is a crime series and always will be. you will never play as a cop.
Kwandilibro
gta should never ever EVER have you play as a cop. they would have to change the name to "grand cop auto". the protag also shouldnt be a maniacally ruthless killer. no need for that either. he should just be your average thug killer, with feelings deep inside but a hard shell of anger. in other words, a real person. but hell do almost anything for the money, a real hustler. but not no cop, or no jack the ripper guy Edited April 6, 2010 by Kwandilibro
Old_BenKenobi
Playing as a cop defeats the point of GTA. I just want a protagonist who's an evil psycho again. I'm tired of the anti hero "I don't really want to be a criminal but circumstances force me to be one" crap. GTA's appeal is playing as the bad guy... Why not actually make him be a bad guy instead of this reluctant hitman crap we've got? Tommy Vercetti was a psychopathic motherf*cker who didn't give a sh*t. He told people to get bent, had a ball killing people and was just a nasty piece of work.
BrownBear
I think that Niko was a hypocrite. He killed hundreds of people, then started crying when Roman died, saying he never should have been killed, well what about all the people he killed? I want a character who is ruthless, completley devoid of human emotion. Not someone who kills for his own perverse needs and mental comfort, but someone who doesnt care about killing someone, who kills people for his own greed and jealousy, who uses drugs, sleeps with loads of women and kills anyone if it gets him money, women, drugs, alchohol, pwer and respect. d0mm2k8
I think that Niko was a hypocrite. He killed hundreds of people, then started crying when Roman died, saying he never should have been killed, well what about all the people he killed? That doesn't make him a hypocrite. He was just upset because he died. He would be a hypocrite if he said 'If you kill someone you're an idiot' then he himself goes and kills someone but claims he isn't an idiot. Algonquin Assassin
I think that Niko was a hypocrite. He killed hundreds of people, then started crying when Roman died, saying he never should have been killed, well what about all the people he killed? I think Niko is kind of like Tony Montana. In Scarface Tony only killed people who had it coming to them. He never killed an innocent person. With Niko however during the course of the story he only kills people who... 1) He's paid to kill. 2) Messes with his family, or friends. Obviously outside the story was different, because we as players could kill 1000s of innocent people, but in the story I don't think Niko was a hypocrite at all. SilentSeas
Niko does have some morals, afterall one of the reasons why he came to LC was to try and get out of the criminal underworld. Obviously it didn't work out for him straight away but he quit as soon as he had the chance.
