Saudis set to behead Lebanese 'sorcerer'.

Saudi move to execute 'sorcery man' sparks protest.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri has been urged to intervene to stop the execution of a Lebanese national accused of sorcery in Saudi Arabia.

Amnesty International said TV fortune teller Ali Hussain Sabat seemed to have been convicted for "exercising of his right to freedom of expression".

Mr Sabat's lawyer said she had been informed unofficially that he could be beheaded by the end of this week.

But Beirut's envoy to Riyadh said the case was still being heard.

The condemned man hosted a satellite TV show in which he predicted the future.

He was arrested by the Saudi religious police while on pilgrimage to the country in 2008.

Malcolm Smart, head of Amnesty's Middle East and North Africa programme, said it was "high time the Saudi Arabian government joined the international trend towards a worldwide moratorium on executions".

The Lebanese ambassador to Riyadh, Marwan Zein, said on Thursday that he had not been informed that Mr Sabat's execution was imminent, AFP news agency reports.

His case was "still being considered by the court", the ambassador said.

There has been no official confirmation from Saudi Arabia, but executions there are often carried out with little warning.

Although it's not as yet confirmed, it really would not surprise me if the Saudis were going to execute someone for this sort of thing. It raises the question of why we give these backward f*cks a voice in the international community. Obviously there's a threshold of tolerance for them what with their oil and such, but there has to be a line drawn and for me this really would be the time to lay it out. It's not just the fact that this guy's being executed for 'sorcery' - that he was even charged and tried for it in the first place says it all about Saudi Arabia.

They have their ways, sure. We should respect that and never poke our noses in it. But murdering people for sh*t like this isn't a credible 'custom' - it's insanity.

You realize that just because they excute people doesn't mean their 'Backword f*cks'. I believe in 2005, America hung a certain person themselves eh?

Who's to say America isn't backward in that sense either? I think any country who still utilises capital punishment is. But for 'sorcery'? That ups the anty.

Because we don't execute people for "sorcery".

I think you missed the part about them wanting to execute him for being a wizard 'n' sh*t.

Sure, execution doesn't make a group of people 'backwood f*cks', but believing in sorcery might. Executing someone for sorcery just might take that group even closer to backwood status.

Like who believes in sorcery these days?

I believe the person the US hung in '05 wasn't a wizard or a sorcerer, but someone the world had known and proven to have killed a boat load of people - not to mention the mistreatment of the ones he may not have killed.

apples and oranges man...apples and oranges.

Blasted wizards! Don't trust them. I'd cleave off any sorcerer's skull given the chance. Props to them, I say!

The Saudi Crime Family is perhaps the most vile bunch of degenerates who dare calling themselves Arabs. This whole Islam rubbish is the only thing keeping the people of Saudi Arabia from bringing these criminals to justice.

The whole rule of the country is based on an archaic joke of inherited monarchy with no right for the peopel to decide how they are governed. The monarchs in turn impose a ridiculously strict and extreme sharia law system with little to no basis in protecting the people, or even Islamic teachings which it claims, but rather to oppress them and keep them subserviant.

So ofcourse you're gonna get the few show executions like this to keep the people trembling from similarly cruel fates if they dare do the same. It also masquerades the Saudi Family as purveyors and enforcers of Islam, therefore anything else they say cannot be questioned as it comes straight from God, and they are his chosen rulers of the land. Choosing any other leader or even thinking of democracy is therefore against God's chosen rulers and so you too will get burnt at the stake.

So in short, this has NOTHING to do with culture, backwardness, Islam or the country as a whole. It is all clever manipulation, brainwashing, oppression and fearmongering of the people, to keep them subserviant, obedient and fearful of a clearly hypocritical, corrupt and unjust monarchy regime, the likes of which became a joke from an era that's gone even decades ago.

Haha, yep, I do seem to be getting in the habit of murdering threads I post in recently. I guess it is because of my overly serious posts, sorry for that lol, my strong feelings in discussion topics like this often do just burst out. tounge.gif

It's been a long time since we've hung witches. But just because America and China are f--ked up with executions too doesn't let the Saudis off the hook.

As far as I believe foreigners should abide by local laws, there has to be a point where you realise that you're going too far. When it comes to capital punishment it can be a tricky subject. Killing someone as a punishment is the harshest penalty you can deal out, and as far some people (child molesters, murderers, etc) may deserve it, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that its not a smart move.

Abide by anti wizardry laws? That might be tricky because magic isn't f*cking real.

Disproportionate justice is still preferable to a system that blames everyone but the criminal.

Order is the most important thing in the world, so who really cares how that order is established?

Oh, you're telling me that people can be trusted to obey the rules by themselves? If you give people too much rope, they'll hang themselves. It's like a child licking an electrical socket. An intelligent observer wonders why they act so self-destructively but the child simply wants to satisfy their curiousity then and there.

People, at large, are no better than children. And it's up to the educated elite to try and steer them away from situations in which they can give in to their foolish impulses. Sadly, the rulers of Saudi Arabia are not educated and so their laws are effective but unjust.

Why don't you go to prison? I heard order is maintained pretty well in their.

Ah yes, prisons. Another one of our great institutions sent by hell by the compassionate policies of our government.

I wonder if the prisoners in Saudi Arabia get DVD players and computer games. Many good arguements are made against the death penalty, but when the only other deterrent is a glorified summer resort then it's clear that there is a massive problem.

The criminal needs to be beaten down, not understood or embraced, beaten down and crushed so that they cannot pose a threat again. Thankfully, we're too smart to treat a 'sorcerer' as a criminal. But we need to do something to get through to the scum.

Can't you at least acknowledge that our current system is horribly flawed?

The current system is a hell of a lot better than what your saying.

Okay then, how? How is it better?

Because from where I'm standing, justice has been whored out to human rights and turned murderers and rapists into victims. The fact that you can go to jail for defending your own f*cking property is a sure enough sign that something is wrong.

Because we aren't killing people. If capitol punishment worked, then countries were it's legal shouldn't have higher rates of violent crime. But that's not the case.

I don't think we should kill people for every little thing (Just treason and that's it), but face the facts. We require a way to scare criminals, to give our legal system some teeth.

Do you really believe people fear light prison sentences? Or shake in terror at the prospect of watching TV all day and paying no bills? No, we shouldn't kill all criminals, that would alienate us from the rest of the world and in these days international relations are more important than ever.

But we have to clean up the prison service and realise that sometimes you have to make an example out of people.

I'm honestly in favour of corporal punishment for petty criminals. Things done to humiliate them in the eyes of their community. For people who operate on status and fear, a loss of face in front of a large group of people could set them straight.

What do you define as petty crime? Because torturing a shoplifter to "make an example" is one of the funniest things I ever heard.

Shoplifting, vandalism, public drunkeness, public lewdness. That kind of thing.

You have to punish the little crimes to make people think twice about commiting the bigger ones. And if that punishment involves torture, so be it. It's unpleasant, no denying that. But it's for the greater good, imagine a clean society, a nice quiet place where the elderly don't have to worry about some lout smashing their windows or where the mentally disturbed aren't driven to suicide by gangs of kids.

Wouldn't you be willing to commit a little evil to attain that ultimate vision? Wouldn't it all be worth it in the end?

How did this thread about the Saudis wanting to behead a sorcerer (which didn't happen after all) turn into Typhus sounding like Supermortalhuman?

I thought we all knew the world isn't perfect, people aren't perfect, not to mention people are very different all throughout the world. So there is a vast spread of f*cked up differences.

Comparing an unfair, excessive system to our own one is hardly an instance of someone going off topic, is it?
