Okay, go to your Rockstar Games folder, then where it says "Grand Theft Auto IV", right click the folder and make sure "read only" is unticked.

tried that but It allways sets it ro read only again. Like I open it switch off read only and I open it again and read only is ticked. :S

I've checked the permisions and I've got full control

Alright, here's something I found on these forums posted a while back. I remember when I installed the ASI loader I had this problem. I can't really remember what I did to fix it though. But there's a few links in my internet history that point to this problem.

Try this:

ive found out that the file dsound.dll has to be accompanied with EFC20FIX.asi and you have to be logged into RGSC and then go to the folder of GTAIV and run the game by right clicking on LaunchGTAIV.exe and selecting run as administrator, and then it works, i also found that the .asi trainers which do not support v1.0.3.0 when put into the folder prevent the game from running, i use windows 7 and i am quite sure that this procedure will also work for vista! good luck  smile.gif

By the way the read only re-ticking is normal. It's just some of the files are always set back to read only by the game.

Ah!

I just upgraded my brother's computer from XP to Windows 7 earlier today. Added extra RAM to support the upgrade mainly because he bought Just Cause 2.

Anyways, I reinstalled all the programs including GTA 4, and I started getting this error.

When you run LaunchGTAIV as administrator, it should open up Rockstar Games Social club giving you some message. From there, what I did was press Play, and I still got the error. But I later found out this was because it cancelled the request to open the game when RGSC popped up. So go to your GTA 4 folder, right click LaunchGTAIV, and under "Compatibility", tick "Run this program as an administrator". This will make it so when RGSC opens it it'll force it to run as an admin, instead of resetting your request.

By the way, I also unticked my GTA 4 folder as Read Only.

Good luck!
