ukscotth
Hi, I can currently only get a framrate of 20 on GTA 4, do you think I should be getting more with my system ? If I was to upgrade my system to get a better performance what would you recomend upgrading, CPU ? Graphics card ? Heres my system : Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ ASUS M2N-E SLI NVIDIA 8800GT 4GB Corsair DDR2 Any help would be most appreciated. Many thanks, Scott. PecanFrost
This is going to be caused by your processor, the game asks for a minimum of an AMD x2 4600+, the memory and the video card should be enough for more performance than you are currently getting, but it can also be caused by your settings. What are you currently playing under?
ukscotth
ok thanks. Im current running windows xp. Ive done the commandline.txt tweaking. I dont suppose you know if I could run a x4 chip on my motherboard ?
PecanFrost
I think you're going to be stuck with a dual core, but you should be able to get one of the high clocked dual cores which play the game well as long as you don't go silly with the settings. I played the game through first time with a dual core and I didn't feel like I missed anything. (I ran a 4600+ overclocked to 2.6GHz, 4GB memory and an ATi Radeon 3850 and the game was played at 1280X1024, mostly medium settings and 25/20/40/0 for the sliders). You should be easily able to find a sweet spot with a AMD 6000+ or 6400+.

viometrix
i have an m2n-e board wich is almost the exact same board. there is a bios flash that will let it support first gen phenom x4, and every athlon II x2 and x3 and x4, as well as most triple core phenoms. it is on asus official website. PecanFrost
Not according to the Asus site I've just been on, remember Asus tend to name lots of their motherboards with similar names - http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupp...-us&model=M2N-E SLI&product=1&os=17 I know we've got an M2n-e board that doesn't support SLi and it'll take anything up to the last of the line Phenom x4's. anus
ok cool thanks. If I said I had £200 to spend on my system what would you recomend ? Your motherboard doesn't support any Phenom IIs or Athlon IIs, so I recommend getting a new motherboard, CPU and RAM. For that budget, something like this would do great: Motherboard: MSI 770-C45A CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 425 RAM: 4GB CCL DDR3 1333 Comes to £196.99. Should greatly improve IV performance. Also consider switching to a 64bit OS to make full use of the 4GB of RAM. IV being able to make full use of your RAM will improve performance even more.
