Woody13
hello john, Thanks for your reply I don't have any joystick or gamepad. I have an USB keyboard and mouse but I can't start the game when I unplug them.
mkey82
Try changing the port, or even manually uninstall the keyboard. Try deleting game settings (look in the FAQ) and the controlmap.dat file you can find in the savegames folder (again, directions in the FAQ). Would it be possible for you to try some other keyboard? Woody13
Hi mkey, This is the second keyboard I try. The other one was non-usb. I'll the rest of your tips and you will hear from me again. Thanks. /edit: To bad. It doesn't work I deleted my gamesettings and my controlmap.dat and still my keyboard doesn't respond ingame. I also tried changing the ports even to the front ports of the computer and I can't get it to work. It works in the games for windows live box though. In that box my mouse isn't working. All very strange. Edited March 30, 2010 by Woody13
mkey82
Try using xliveless to disable GFWL. Read the included readme file.
Woody13
I got xliveless and installed it like the readme told me to. Now when I start GTA 4 there's no GFWL. Thank you for that. But still no response out of my keyboard. GTA 4 just won't listen to my keyboard. Any suggestions?
mkey82
Open up the command prompt, type "servicses.msc", find windows event log and disable it. That one sometimes caused issues with GTAIV. Did you try remapping the keys in the game config?
Woody13
Thanks mkey for helping me this far. I disabled the windows event log, rebooted my computer. Still it didn't work. Remapping the keys isn't possible. The game doesn't give me any response. Neither in the game nor in one of it's menu's. I navigate completeley using the mouse. mkey82
Do you maybe have some "exotic" program running in the background?
Woody13
Other than the drivers for my hardware: Comodo firewall but I tried shutting it down. I have daemon tools and quicktime. I tried shutting them all down but no luck. It keeps ignoring my keyboard It's even a fairly new installed windows. maybe 1 month old.
Woody13
So there's no fixing it?
mkey82
I'm really tapped out, try updating directx. Do a screenshot of your task manager and upload it here.
Woody13
This is my task manager I don't seem to be allowed to post an image on this board but here's the link http://img130.imageshack.us/i/92446905.gif/
mkey82
You should be allowed, use img tags [img]http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/6058/92446905.gif[img] but you need to use direct links to images. When I said close everything, I meant close everything. ATI and Realtek CP, MSN, Quick time bullsh*t. Everything.
Woody13
Ok I closed everything I could. To the point when I closed my explorer and I had to relog-in to get my desktopicons and taskbar back. So I closed everything again till only the processes that couldn't be closed remained. Started GTA 4 and then! The keyboard didn't work again...
