Leave My Name Out
Hey people, it's my Birthday on the 8th of May. I need help picking a new graphics card, and possibly a new processor if it's all relatively cheap. (Looking at the info from CanYouRunIt) I currently have: AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core Processor 450Watt 2GB RAM DDR3 Nvidia Geforce 9600GT 2.70 GHz Performance Rated at: 5.265 GHz Windows 7 32-Bit I was wondering what graphics card I should get, overall, I can spend about £100-£250. 2 people have told me to get an ATI Radeon either a - 5770 or 5850. The only problem being that aren't they DDR5? My dad knows more than I do about it, but apparently they might not fit, or I will not have a powerful enough processor, and I only have 450 Watts. Apologies for the long post, could you guys also possibly provide direct links to peices of hardware I should buy. My dad said he would buy the card I want, but if it doesn't work, it's not his problem. EDIT: Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I just posted the same topic in the Tech chat section. If you wouldn't mind replying in here though, I'd be grateful either topic. Edited March 28, 2010 by Leave My Name Out
anus
The video card memory and the memory your motherboard supports are not linked. Don't worry, GDDR5 cards will work fine on your PC. For a video card, I recommend a HD5830 like this and since you'll most likely have to upgrade your PSU as well, get a PSU like this. Both of them totals to £253.42 and would serve you VERY well. And yeah, your CPU might bottleneck the card. So if you can, overclock it as much as possible to reduce the bottleneck. Also consider upgrading to 4GB of RAM down the line. Leave My Name Out
Thanks for replying fast, this is perfect. If I was to get just a graphics card without anything else, what would you recommend? I'll see what he thinks about the price though. Thanks again. Edit: Apparently £250 is a little too much, not to sound ungrateful, could you possibly try to find the same card for a cheaper price? Or a similar PSU but cheaper? anus
Well if you're spending £250 on the video card only, a HD5850 would be your best bet. Something like this would do. Btw, it's possible to get a better CPU, video card and PSU for within your budget of £250. I'll need to know your motherboard though first though. Just saw your edit, if that's too expensive, you could get a HD5770 and the same PSU. Totals to £185.20 then. Edited March 28, 2010 by Warlord. Leave My Name Out
Thanks a bunch man, means alot. Would that be good enough to play GTA IV with reasonable FPS and reasonable graphics quality? On my 9600, I'm lucky to hit 30FPS.
anus
No problem. Yeah you should be able to play IV on high settings without a hitch, provided your CPU and RAM don't hold you back .
LCstuntman
I have a 5770, and it's a great card. For you, though, I would be worried about that processor bottlenecking the card. But you can try what Warlord said, overclocking it as much as possible and it might not restrict the card so much.
xxCrowTechxx
I have a 5770, and it's a great card. Not a bad card for 200 bucks is it?
