Ryan Pinnick
Gta v must have some sort of co-op. It could give the gta series a different dimension. Plus i no tons and i mean TONS of people who don't buy gta because there is no co-op story as they would love it if they could play the story online or offline together. Even if it was a completely different mode like a fragile alliance and spec ops mix ( if you don't no them look it up) There could be tons of different things to do like races, cops and robbers, robbing a bank or a house. And many more. I think this would really widen the GTA markert and make R* even more money to make the upcoming gta games. UNFORGETTABLE. And before someone comes on and says put this on the wishlist blah blah blah. I fort this would deserve its own thread as its a big issue and i want this discussed and see if people agree with how i feel.

SammiiDoogles
Maybe, but I wouldn't want it all the way through. It would be cool if there are missions and you have other people with you, controlled by AI but another player could control them online or offline, optionally. Although I wouldn't do it - that's the only way I could see it being slightly acceptable in GTA.
Ash_735
I'd prefer it if it was done outside of the story, an idea me and a mate had which we think some people might like would be to do it like Uncharted 2, have Online Co-Op missions, BUT with GTA, obviously being filled with many gangs, police, FIB, etc, split it up into a Mini-story seagment, call it the Mini Stories of ..... (insert City Name). Have about 6 Missions, all from different points of view, you could have one where you play as members of a Biker Gang during a raid, one where you play as a NOOSE squad on a special ops, One where you play as a group of Thugs robbing a bank, etc, make them a bit lengthy each and also lets the player dive into the more unknown members of the chosen city. bigg z
A separate smaller co-op story or several independent co-op side missions could work.
ckasper502
I think if this was done like gears of war ( 1 ) where the host is responceble for the main game and the second player is just the tag along, it could work example - 1. you play your single player game as niko 2. your friemd comes online 3. send him/her a game invite using your phone 4. he/she excepts and joins your game as " his multiplayer create-a-character " 5. then he/she is free to wreck havic through liberty city with you --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- it wouldnt change the single player at all. all cut scence's could be designed to incorperate a partner in the background, my vote for this would be YES, please incorparate a drop in drop out multyplayer

Interrobangin
A separate smaller co-op story or several independent co-op side missions could work. Yeah I’m thinking of a series of missions that you would do for a gangster who is mentioned but not really involved in the storyline it would add a lot of depth... ...oh wait. spike88
GTAIV Technically already has Co-op. Although a mini-campaign would be interesting. Especially if it either happens before the events of, or during the events of the main game to help set up the Single Player's story. Much like the one coming out in Splinter Cell Conviction. The characters in it could even be storyline characters in the main story. For example, in Co-op you play as Jack and Reno two nobodies who aspire to run their own gang. They start out with only them. Through the Co-op missions they grow their gang. After the last mission the gang is of decent size. Now during the Main game you run into Jack and Reno and help them with their gang, or even end up fighting against them due to something they did prior. Duxfever
The least that could work is another player could control the other character in a mission. Like, if GTA IV had what I'm saying, take the 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend' mission for example: Player 1 would control Niko, while Player 2 would control Packie. The game would tell Player 2 where to go with the same arrows as Niko's, except, just like in singleplayer, Player 1 wouldn't see the arrows. Same would go for activities with friends. That's the least they could do. Edited March 28, 2010 by Duxfever

CryptReaperDorian
What R* could do is something like Saints Row does. You and your friend has a character without a name (well your online ID is the name), but yous are just referred to "thugs" or something similar. You'll work for some mob boss for probably around 20-30 co-op missions. Just like in Saints Row 2 where there is multiple voices for your character, the voices of the mutiplayer characters would also be given cutscene dialog. However, the storyline won't be much, but it could still provide a lot of fun. Also, it would be fun for the missions to be replayable, but after the first completion you won't be able to make money from doing that mission over (unless they are not that large of rewards like $3,000 max). The money you get from those missions should also be added to you multiplayer money for that extra boost.
Vecceti
As long as it's done good. It gets on my nerves when the second person doesn't feel important at all. Particularily Super Mario Galaxy or Smash Bros: Brawl, where if second player dies then first person can keep playing but if first person dies then it's game over

Particularily Super Mario Galaxy or Smash Bros: Brawl, where if second player dies then first person can keep playing but if first person dies then it's game over right?? i hate looking forward to a game and then all of a sudden be disappointed because one little thing they totally screwed up on. like one of those moments where you scream at the TV, "why the f*** would they put that in this game?!?!" or "what was the f***ing point of that?!?!" or maybe like those games where your looking forward to using the character creator and find out that its a piece of crap CC with barely any options to choose from.
