sever uk
GTA IV FATAL ERROR: GTA IV requires a sound card in order to run. Hi, i've searched google for this quite a few times and dont find many people with the problem, however my problem is different to the others I saw anyways. The problem I read that other people had was GTA just not launching at all because of this error, my problem is it will work until I quit the game, after quitting I cant play music in windows or anything, the soundcards been basically disabled and it wont work again/gta wont launch again until I restart my PC. I've tried 2 different sound cards and the same thing happens so I don't know what to think at the moment, one was an m-audio pci card and the other is Realtek onboard (AC97 i think). I have no sound problems in the game, only no sound at all after I quit until I reboot. I've tried disabling and enabling the card again in device manager but this doesnt work, it just puts one of those little yellow "!" icons next to it to indicate its not working properly. Plese help, thanks.
Ryan
What are your specs? Have you tried updating to the latest drivers for your sound cards?
sever uk
Yeah I have the latest drivers that were released 05/03/2010. The same thing happened before and after the driver update. My specs are: P35 DS3L motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo e7400 2.8Ghz 2 Gig ram ATI Radeon 5770 Windows XP SP2 I'm not having any other errors or issues apart from this and only after I quit out of the game until the PC is restarted, any ideas what could be causing this? mkey82
Uninstall all sound cards/sound drivers you have, clean up with driver sweeper and then install only the on-board sound card.
