Anyway, the fact that I put America as an "invention" wasn't something I meant in a completely accurate historical way. The dispute on that is still very open. And as Weirdo pointed out America was a land already discovered by the native-american people.

Yeah I read that part just after I posted it. Although don't you think it would be called Vespuccia if named after what the general consensus says? Really the native Americans never discovered it so to speak, they just wandered accross the Bering straight which at that time was not under water. Saying that they discovered America is in my opinion no different to saying that Africans discovered Europe.

I'd say that the whole "discovering a land" is really a volatile concept.

Ok, the native americans were just there then, but a land, possibly, is truly "discovered" only when it's not inhabited.

When a culture finds another it's really a discovery for both.

Example: the Spanish discovered the Incas just as much as the Incas discovered the Spanish, even though the Incas discovered the Spanish directly on their land.

Better example: did Marco Polo discovered China or China just met a guy that claimed to come from another culture on the other side of their world?

 

As I said, volatile concept.
