UpTheImps
Hi. I've got two 2GB Kingston DDR2 RAM. If I add two 2GB DDR3 RAM that is not by kingston will the ram be ok? Will it show up in my PC like 8GB RAM 2GB DDR2 2GB DDR2 2GB DDR3 2GB DDR3 Thanks, Oli "Let's go, let's bounce baby! An' When I say bounce I don't mean bouncing literally I just mean..." Edmachine
That's not possible. DDR2 slots are not compatible with DDR3. You need a new motherboard with DDR3 slots to be able to actually use DDR3 memory. If you'd try to put DDR3 in a DDR2 slot, you'd either break the slot or the RAM stick. Or both. Also, you can put two sticks of memory from different brands, as long as they are the same type. But it's generally not recommended. I don't know about this, but I assume Dual Channel won't work in that case (or at least in the case if the frequencies are different). Oh, and as The Guru pointed out, wrong forum. The slot's I'm using are DDR3 slots. So It's recommended that I get extra kingston DDR2's and not kingston DDR3's because It's bad to mix DDR2s and DDR3s? "Let's go, let's bounce baby! Edmachine
You can't use DDR3 RAM sticks in DDR2 slots. You can't use DDR2 RAM sticks in DDR3 slots. You can use DDR3 RAM sticks in DDR3 slots. You can use DDR2 RAM sticks in DDR2 slots. You can't use Kingston RAM and a different brand RAM if one of them is DDR3 and the other is DDR2. You can use Kingston RAM and a different brand RAM ONLY if they BOTH are DDR2 (or DDR3).
