How do a group of people leave

I've seen this happen a few times.

 

I'm trashtalking someone online and all of a sudden, him and like 5 people leave. How do they do this stuff?

 

I don't ever see them choose the 'Next Game' option.

 

Is it magic?

They all got disconnected, it was quite frequent on the PS3 version of the game pre-1.06.

they were all friends and decided to join a different game

they were in a party together

 

BTW the next game option don't take you to a new game it suggests a different game mode and if over half the lobby suggests that game mode it will change from FM to what ever they suggested and you will be in the same lobby with the same group of people playing a different game mode.

its (imo) a connection issue, used to happen to me alot until i changed my router, now it never happens, i also got d/c from almost every game, new router.... much better.

I suffer from this exact connection problem, it's been happening to me for years ! I've got theory on this topic, it's not the group of players leaving the server at the same time, it could actually be you leaving the server sometimes. I've been in freemode playing with 5 or 6 players and they all left at the same time leaving me in a game all on my own, so then did a new search for a quick game and ended up back in the same game with all the same players. So maybe what happens is YOU leave, not them and a cloned server is made for you, but this will not happen all the time sometimes players will leave the game in maybe 2's or 3's, and leave some players remaining in the game ! It still is an issue for some players yet not for others. Out of all my friends on my psn list, I'm the only one with the problem even tho I have a wired connection to router "nat type 2".

@OP: Not everything is the result of Lag or connection issues.

I'll start like this. Have you ever been in a full FM and every single player leaves at the same time except you? Thats a connection malfunction. If your in a full FM and 3 maybe 5 leave at the same time, thats a group thats in a party or in party mode together. Me and my clan use to do this.

im a professional modder(i disable my trainer in MP though), about those 5 people leave a game at a time, it is caused by people crashing the game, meaning some douche comes into the server, spawn 100 tugs and leave the server, tugs cause major lag in gta 4 as its the biggest vehicle in the game, just spawning 5 tugs and it can cause major lag, the only way to escape this type of lag is to teleport to the oposite of the map(if you have a trainer), use a heli and fly to the highest of the game(need trainer to spawn a heli) or leave the server. but usually if you leave a lagged server, you will crash when you join another server or go back to single player mode.

just for nubs out there: trainer only works on free mode, party mode and single player mode, so stop kicking us in deathmatch for some lame reason when i don't even use trainer(other than pimping cars) in MP

Sometimes it so happens that the server 'splits' into two parts; this happens quite frequently when I'm playing with some friends. On their end I left, on mine they left, but they still claim to be in the server that I'm still in too. Not sure how this works from a technical point of view though.

Yeah iw as in a heated FM (not that intense) but with a full game all of a sudden everyone left the game in a blink of an eye and i msged my friend who was in the game and he said i was the one that disconnected but i was still in the game mode it was really freaky

Yeah this, when i get disconnected from my router (resetting my IP), it'll show all the players leaving at the same time.

Yes I had a freaky game this week, three of us playing fm airport, two of us couldn't see eachother, but third friend could see both of us, so after many messages to eachother try to explain wtf was happening, we all agreed to meet up at heli area to see if we could all see each other, but when we got into close proximity of each other one of us lost connection, but its definately wierd when it happens to you.
