He was just as compelling as any of the other GTA protagonists, and I don't skin colour had anything to do with it. As long as there is crime to spoof, there is the potential for a great GTA. But there is alot of nigerians, Ghanaians ect. coming now. To be honest i couldnt care less what race the protagonist is so long as he has a good story and relevence for being that, os not a native american in london. RomanViking Posted March 17, 2010 Share Posted March 17, 2010 I just want a deep protagonist. He doesn't even have to be likable in every way. Always friendly or cool isn't the same as compelling. I don't want to play as a protagonist who's consistently cool, and never makes a mistake, or always does the right thing (this is a crime game, but still). People sometimes get angry, or their decision making can be clouded be any number of things. Nobody has completely clear or unbiased views. And instead of making a protagonist that lots of people would love, or relate too, or is "relevant to today's world" like having a Mexican protagonist who comes across the border... I personally think they should just work on writing a compelling protagonist. Niko Bellic was kinda on the right track. But he didn't have any clear views of his own. Oftentimes it seemed like Rockstar just used him as a vessel to express some (extremely obvious) views on America.. Have a character, it doesn't matter who they are. Have a black man, maybe he's even poor and stereotypical in appearance. That part doesn't matter. What matters is that he has motives and his own thinking (or lack of thinking at certain moments). His own views on situations and some biased views himself --- like a real person. He should be completely real, and thrown into unbelievable circumstances. Lazy Squirrel PT Posted March 17, 2010 Share Posted March 17, 2010 Like everyone said, as long as it's a well thought carachter, with decent carisma and background, who cares, he could be from Mongolia for all I care. I didn't really connect with CJ (and he annoyed the hell out of me with that whiny voice), but not because he was black, I just plain didn't like the guy. Same way as I didn't like Vic Vance, simply because the guy was out of character for a GTA. The guy whines in cutscenes about trying to be a nice guy all the time and trying to act very noble and honest, and then gets out and slaughters hundreds of cops? Yeah right. On the other hand I thought I wouldn't like Johnny from TLAD because of him being a biker and that's not really my thing, but he was one of the best to me out of all the main guys. Hell I thought I wouldn't like the guy from Chinatown Wars because, let's face it, he's one ugly Chinese bastard only his mother could love, but I was wrong yet again.
