dunbrine47
Before I ask the question of does anyone know a good fundraiser I want to give a little background of the school and circumstances I would be doing this with. First is is a small private 9-12 High School with about 200 students. These students are scattered all around the area of the school (NJ/NYC). Getting to and from the school after hours for some of these students is downright impossible. An after school event would be possible but there would be less people able to go. So something that can be done in about two hours during the school day would be preferred. Also the students all have ADHD so something adapt for short attention spans is a must. Now things the school will not let us do: Bake Sales are forbidden because of the sugar.(Even though this is a Private school some of us go there on public monies so I guess the school has to listen to the government ) Movie nights are out of the question because the school is paranoid about bullsh*t copyright infringement( Only movies in the public domain would be allowed to be shown). I tried to propose a restaurant night but the money made off of that would be pennies. So that is all for now, does anyone have any ideas?
mr_bungle
What a tight school. No bake sales or movie nights? Seriously what the f*ck.
dunbrine47
What a tight school. No bake sales or movie nights? Seriously what the f*ck. Welcome to Special Ed my friend. Well I wouldn't totally call my school totally tight. There has been somewhat successful fundraisers that the school has allowed like a rollerskate night, taping up one of the principals to the wall and a school carnival. I'm just scouting for new ideas to keep thing fresh.
ghost of delete key
We used to have fundraisers like "Senior Slave Auction". No sh*t. Grades 9 - 11 would collect in the gym, and the seniors would be lined up, tied (loosely, of course) by the neck to each other in a chain, and the "auctioneer" at the podium would auction them off to the students one by one. The senior you "bought" was then your "slave" for the day, and basically had to do anything you wanted (within school rules) for the entire day. Blow spitballs at your enemies. Tie your loafers. Carry your books. Hell, carry you! It was great fun, but looking back, not terribly PC "I can just imagine him driving off the edge of a cliff like Thelma & Louise, playing his Q:13 mix at full volume, crying into a bottle." - Craig
dunbrine47
^ That has to be the funniest thing I have ever heard, I should propose it
ghost of delete key
You might be able to sell the idea, but I think you'd have to figure out a way to get rid of the whole Slave Trader theme... which kinda ruins the whole gag. Your school... That wouldn't happen to be Green Meadows, would it? I almost went there. I grew up in NYC and Rockland county, and went to Saddle River and Barnstable, if those ring any bells. mr_bungle
GODK we do that aswell. This year I have been asked to be auctioned off as a slave. I'm yet to agree to it.

I do believe our sport teams play each other every year. Calling it a "Slave" auction would be out of the question, maybe I have to propose it along the style of a bachelor auction? And it would not be officially called "Slave", more like your personal lackey or servant. So how much money did you make off it?

"Butler for a day" I like the auction idea, maybe have the kids make some sort of art pieces then auction them off to the parents & friends. Let the kids be the auctioneers of random pieces (to avoid any performance anxiety) Something like that could be enjoyed by all. Then cap the night with GoDK's idea. $$$

Auctioning off are will be easy for two reasons, most students in my school are enrolled in some sort of art class and their paintings cover the staircase and they are very good. Thank you everyone who suggested for the ideas, when I get back to school I'm going to propose these ideas. (As soon as power gets restored). My gawd, they have the world's BEST banana split, bar none. My father's office was there. When I was little, I asked him why the town was named "Teaneck". He told me that the guy who founded the town used to wash his neck and behind his ears with tea. "Why did he wash his neck with tea?!" I asked, perplexed. "Because in those days, coffee was too expensive." But seriously now, I think sofa has the right idea, "Butler Auction" seems like it could work. @ dunbrine: I really don't know exactly how much it made, but there were about 50 or 60 seniors, and the majority of them "sold" for $20 or more, and some of the popular ones went over $100. Some of the students made leashes for their senior "butlers" , and it was a real hoot to see some of these guys following them around on all fours, all dressed up in suit and tie (we had a dress code). We also used to have other after-hours fundraisers, like a regular school auction, where the parents would donate items to the school for auction. there was always a wide array of stuff and services; one year, one of the families donated one of the Blues Brothers' police cars used in the movie, complete with the bigass horn on top. IIRC, that went for about $20,000. We also used to have International Night, where the families would prepare all sorts of interesting food for a huge buffet. The school sold tickets for the event, which was always wildly popular, and ended with a huge piñata bashing in the gym. There's nothing like a hundred kids doing nose-first slides on a hard gym floor into a heap of goodies. I know candy is out, but you could always substitute other stuff I suppose. I don't live in Teaneck just to get that out of the way and by bus does not travel anywhere near there. Now back to the topic at hand. GODK I am really liking the potential if 50 seniors sold themselves for an average of 20 bucks, that's like a thousand bucks right of the bat Leashes, funny but probably a no. Damn one of the student's parents owned a high profile movie prop that went for 20 grand? That would take care of fundraiser needs for 4 years International Night sounds nice, so does the pinata bashing. Funny Teaneck joke
dunbrine47
Well good news, I proposed the Senior auction to the teacher in charge of the fundraising and she really liked the idea. Now all she has to do is see if any Seniors are willing to do it.
dunbrine47
Hmm...Now the teacher is thinking that the seniors will be to arrogant to go along with this(being sold to underclassmen) so my teacher thinks the seniors should bid on 9-11 grades instead. I'm like OK ? There would be less money if we did it like that. She agrees with me but says the principals might try to pull some politically correct bullsh*t excuse on the thing like sexism. Well then if you won't let us raise money with sexism as you call it, let me raise it with sugar. Your choice. Oh well the week is young and things could change by then.
