magma24
I would like to know why the "Badlands" in San Andreas are called the badlands, I didn't seem to find out the answer exactly...
lil weasel
Any area that isn't good for living or especially farming may be called 'badlands' Why Rockstar used the term can only be answered by the authors. And, they usually don't get involved.

Thing is that I borrowed the San Andreas manual from someone I knew in the manual its suggested that there may be a reason why its called the badlands, so I assumed it could be figured out... You have a good idea there though

Thing is that I borrowed the San Andreas manual from someone I knew in the manual its suggested that there may be a reason why its called the badlands, so I assumed it could be figured out... You have a good idea there though This may be hintings to the many exaggerated myths of San Andreas (bigfoot, leatherface, UFOs etc.) as some sites report sightings in the badlands. Also, the so-called Ghost Cars are, i think, reported in the badlands and there are definately some that roll down the edge of Mount Chilliad. However, they are not actually ghost cars, they are simply empty cars which roll down the hills incase the player has no means of transportation, thats all. I dont know whether that is what the passage is referring to but they seem valid points. Hope this helps, Danny
lil weasel
The game was produced before the 'Rumors' started. Please! Don't start on Myths.
DannyLee94
The game was produced before the 'Rumors' started. Please! Don't start on Myths. As i said, the so-called ghost cars are NOT myths. I suggested that the game is hinting towards these as a reason for it being called the badlands, however, your point seems valid although suggesting a reason in the manual, hints to a more sinister reason. Canoxa
Actually, the ghost cars are a programming error, not something to spook the player or to get him some wheels in case CJ is stranded.
DannyLee94
Actually, the ghost cars are a programming error, not something to spook the player or to get him some wheels in case CJ is stranded. Thats exactly what i said: they are not actually ghost cars, they are simply empty cars which roll down the hills incase the player has no means of transportation, thats all. simply if the player has lost their car and doesnt want to walk to their destination. Some players have concluded that they were actually being chased by the empty vehicles but were most likely running away in the same direction that the car was rolling. I have never seen them myself but, i have only really just unlocked SF.
Canoxa
Actually, the ghost cars are a programming error, not something to spook the player or to get him some wheels in case CJ is stranded. As I said, it is neither. The most conclusive response to come out of these forums was that their spawning was misplaced. They decided to spawn one in the woods, except it spawns in an odd angle, causing it to roll or stroll down the hills, causing the damage.

Lioshenka
I fail to understand how a possible presence of myths in the game may result in giving the area the name "Badlands"? Totally irrelevant! I think the called it like that because of the forest roads and all the dirttracks that run there; really there isn't much you can do there as lil weasel said. lil weasel
Can anybody give us the Map Co-ordinates of the 'badlands'? I mean where is it printed on the Games Map? No? Because it is only the name of a mission... Interesting enough. Most areas called Badlands are where Bandits hide from the Law. Usually because it is difficult to get to, and easily defended. Which is not the case here. So it is a misnomer. It would have made a better Hide-Out for Catalina, maybe. Hey you know what, that actually sounds like the real reason why it was called that Also I think I recall that the Badlands is not such a name of a mission, but practically the countryside area south of San Fierro. Lioshenka
I always considered this area to be a Badlands zone: However, I think other characters have referred to parts of Red County as Badlands too, especially the part you have to race through with Woozy.
