GTAV Performance

GTA4 could barely be run by present gen consoles without frequent slowdowns FACT - those who say otherwise are simply lying to themselves. The PC can run it smoother, but then only with a upper mid to high end one. GTA VC had , at least for me, virtually no performance issues, with a STEADY 30fps, this needs to be the benchmark. 30FPS on consoles is just fine, when it is a steady 30fps, not the frequent sub 15 fps one sees in a 6 star chase on the consoles.

I really hope that R* have improved their coding for the current gen of consoles and allow a decent steady framerate. The blur effect when travelling fast ( a graphical 'cheat' as the engine cannot handle high speeds well ) needs to go as well. Again, VC had it down great.

Am I being overly optimistic ? after all, SA had (I heard ) double the poly count of GTA3 and had a reasonable framerate - though it too suffered from time to time.

The 360 and PS3 have stupidly low amounts of RAM.

This is the bottle neck for both systems and the reason GTA IV looks + runs like crap.

No you’re definitely not being optimistic. GTA IV was Rockstar first attempt to make a “next gen” game, it would be really odd if it didn’t have pop ups, frame rate issues and technical problems.

And of course these things will get better over time.

A lot of people need to realize that the more games developers make, the more experience they’ll get with the current Hardware and engines. GTA IV wasn’t perfect, but neither were GTA III. We just have to be patient.

GTA III had bugs and was crappy, VC had improved with the main issues that III had but still had it's problems, SA was much better in performance although it did still suffer sometimes (but come on it was on PS2, that is great performance for a PS2 game) The GTA IV era will only get better, but a game is never perfect, neither is a movie or anything that is custom made. GTA will never be a 'perfect' game (nothing is), but it will be damn close! tounge.gif

Plus not forgetting that when GTA IV was released on PS3, it was made under an older fimware, now looking back, with the latest firmware, Rockstar have an extra 20MB of Ram to play with! Plus with all the major companies learning to do SPU coding and shifting effects calculations from the GPU to the SPU, if Rockstar have been doing the same, then the next GTA game on the PS3 will look a lot f*cking better compared to IV!

blowtorchrepair

my buddies and I all liked the blur at top speed. it was a talking point when we all first started playing. we thought it was cool, realistic and assumed it was intentional. ?

I rarely notice a FPS drop with any-star wanted level. I do notice a drop though if I blow a bunch of stuff up at close range to where most of my screen is filled with multiple, simultaneous explosions, but even wondered if that was intentional to mimic the effect of being so close to so many blasts, like how you'll go deaf for a few seconds in the game when very close to an explosion.

anywayz...
