The Guru
Well I was just thinking and exploring ways to type, how fast a type and yeah. I think I type quite fast but I have quite many spelling mistakes and some of my most common ones are : -teh -jsut -haev also, words that end in 'ng' I usually type 'gn'. Do you guys look at your keyboard while you type or do you look at your monitor/screen? I use to look at my keyboard but now I've started looking at my monitor. SeraphimSoldier
Yeah, I make errors. And yeah, I look down, at times. But mostly when the keyboard isn't "out enough".

Dnero
Well currently on my laptop, I rarely look onto the keyboard because I'm used to it. But somehow on the computer, their keyboards are a lot more "popped up" so it's kinda hard to type or do something.
Slynke
Well currently on my laptop, I rarely look onto the keyboard because I'm used to it. But somehow on the computer, their keyboards are a lot more "popped up" so it's kinda hard to type or do something. Funny, I'm quite the opposite. I learned on a full-sized keyboard, and laptop keys always f*ck me up. However, I type semi-traditional, i think i topped out at like 150+gwam back in high school and I'm only getting faster with age lol. I look at the screen, however I must have my keyboard in my field of vision. If it's not, I get all f*cked up. Ryzen 7 5800X | RTX 3080 Ti
ghost of delete key
This reminds me of this topic. I made my own typing speed tester for the hell of it, Svip and Simon. gave me some good input as well. This is the fixed 1.0.1 which I never posted. Download here: http://godk.co.cc/dl/Type_OH_1_0_1.zip (source incl.) Just extract wherever and type into it. Tell us what kind of typing machine you are. My most common typos are "charachter" and anything with "oi" or "th" in it, they always get transposed. That damned H seems to have it out for me. Flat keyboards give me the sh*tz, but then again I learned to type on a Selectric. "KLACK! KLACK! KLACKLACKLACK! ca-CHUNK! *ding!*" I miss White-Out. Shaunr
I look at the screen and but mostly keyboard but a lot of times when im looking at the keyboard my eyes wonder off and i end up pretty much just using my peripheral vision to type, probably because i never learned to type properly but just looking at the keys so much i eventually got a hang of it so i can do both now sort of. Mainland Marauder
40+ wpm with pretty good accuracy. Served me well in work, although I suppose posting on forums and such is good practice. Cursed
I'm about average speed as far as typing is concerned. I make quite a few mistakes though and have to go back. I look at the screen mostly when typing too.
nlitement
I can max out at about 105 WPM, but usually I type at 50 WPM. Also, I would imagine that people use computers so much these days that touch typing would be a given..
ghost of delete key
I can max out at about 105 WPM, but usually I type at 50 WPM. Also, I would imagine that people use computers so much these days that touch typing would be a given.. You'd think... I don't know. If I can't see the keyboard, I may as well be hitting random keys. So I top out at about 40wpm. Average about 33. I'm interested to find out exactly what speed do the typo's start to pop up. Like, if you type very slowly and carefully, of course you can make it flawless. But as you begin to go faster, errors will begin to appear. If you try to type as fast as you possibly can, it may look like hieroglyphics. So I'm curious at what speed relevant to your average is the speed where certain (or any) errors show. You'd be able to tell if the errors are simply clumsiness, or if they're "processing" errors like my chronically transposed doublets. Saget
When I start typing, I look at the keyboard, then after the first letters I turn my eyes to the screen. I don't know what my usual mistakes are, never paid much attention to it. I do notice that sometimes I type something TOTALLY different from what I was thinking in the first place. It's really funny and always makes me think "wtf" (I also typed "thing" instead of "think" there ). I have no idea how it happens, but it's sorta random. |DeviantArt|Flickr|YouTube|#amf|
Edmachine
I can write without even looking at the keyboard or anywhere near it and even correct mistakes I've made. Sort of like I'm doing right now. I am looking at my lamp, the keyboard is slightly visible. But I sometimes mess up more if I am looking at the keyboard for some reason. If I look at the monitor and type, I'll be OK most of the time. I haven't tested how many words/characters I can write in a minute, but I think it was around 80words/min. I really don't remember. They're the exact mistakes I always make. I type fairly fast, last time I checked a max out at about 133 wpm. Most people in my class are fast typers though, because they've been using computers basically all their lives compared to adults who've maybe only been using PC's for 5ish years (e.g my dad.) Rebel
I'd say 90% of the time I'm on a PC/laptop I don't bother to look at the keyboard when I'm typing up something from my head. However when I was in school and had to copy from paper to PC it was a nightmare, I'm not very fast at doing it that way and usually had to look at the keyboard and fix mistakes. I realised the other week while having to be the one typing on the PC while my dads girlfriend talked about some coursework thing she had I was fantastic at keeping up with what she was saying/not making any mistakes and not look at the keyboard. The more I've spent on PC's the less and less I've had to look at the keyboard. I make the odd mistake sometimes, but none that I really repeat over and over that I notice. blahblah1212
60-80 WPM without looking, slower if I do look, I don't know why. I make some errors. Kryten.
I normally look at the screen when typing, and only look at the keyboard to get my bearings when I've looked away for a few seconds to make sure my fingers go onto the correct home keys. Most common mistakes I make are have, when and this. Funnily enough all have the letter H.

gtathebest4ever
I still look down but not the whole time, I kinda look down before typing a word or two and when I'm done with those words, I look down again and so forth. gamesguru
I used to type with just the one hand, and still produce more workload than others. That was before I had my own computer, in which I now I type with both hands of which is obviously somewhat faster. I type quite fast as is, and at lengthy periods as I.T coursework is a lot of typing. As for common spelling mistakes, I don't have any permanent ones. For some reason they change from time to time. The the one word I'm currently misspelling 90% of the time now is 'oyu' (meant to be 'you').
