Only friends can see, thing was this [email protected] of a woman was on my list and saw the comment before I deleted her so yeah my own fault there. The customer wasn’t mentioned by name, customers in general were slated by me.

I wouldn't add my boss on Facebook, honestly. And even if I did, I'd have enough restraint not to post sh*t about him if I knew he could read it. It may not be right that you can be canned over it, but life isn't fair.

Sounds like even if you didn't post it on Facebook, this certain person would of probably gone and told your boss if you said it out loud to a number of people (not customers though) I've never had that kind of problem, only have to worry about my dad reading my status family wise. Still, whatever you post online (even Facebook) could be brought up within real life if someone was that way inclined to bring it up.

Speaking of Facebook, (sorry if this is off topic) but has anyone noticed the news/media people relying on it for information for certain stuff? You know like they'll be talking about a missing person/murder and they'll bring up the victims FB profile.

And I wouldn't worry FB will eventually die down, and it will be Chatroulette next since there's already been a big story in it in the News of The World? today.

I wouldn't post sh*t about anyone I remotely know on Facebook. I'm not the kind of person who goes after trouble. Certain things are better left unsaid. Or if you REALLY need to say them, then do so around trustworthy friends and with your mouth only.

Me and my friends always talk bad stuff about our teachers. It's so f*cking fun, we laugh a lot. But that's all they are, words in the wind. We don't leave RECORDS of our crimes.

If you keep saying bad stuff about people in public, one day it will turn against you. It's your own damn fault.

You can either not add people like that and make your updates viewable only to friends, or just don't say that sort of stuff online.

That's one of the reasons why I only have two blood relatives on my friends list. I don't want to be second guessing everything I do on facebook. There's so many lamebook entries for people who have written something and their parents or work colleagues have responded to. It brings the lols, but in retrospect is silly.

I know what you're talking about, Jay. You know its bad when you get a message from a relative berating you for cursing on Facebook, and you're 22. confused.gif

Well putting out text on a forum or some kind of message board thing is about the same as going to a local talking place (horrible wordage, I know) and spewing out what you are thinking. So you pretty much have to watch out what you are saying cause it is basically the same as that. You are putting your words out into public!

That's just legal, if I were a boss and some one called me a bald fat prick, I would be pissed yes, but that is no grounds for firing.

if you just straight up said, today I am going to rape a girl, then yeah, you are f*cked.

It also works in the reverse. I disabled the ability for others to post on my wall for this very reason. Some relatives (and even friends) -- who I do try to stay in contact with -- don't seem to understand that Facebook isn't a private IM conversation. Truth be told, I'm less worried about me making a mistake and more worried about someone else saying/posting something stupid.

Biggest examples: a) Not knowing the difference between a wall post and private message and b) Tagging inappropriate snapshots of another person without their permission.

Similar thing happened to me. I p*ssed off a girl, she hacked my MySpace and deleted it, contacted friends (she saw their e-mail addresses in forwards I sent her) and told them I said all sorts of hurtful sh*t about them, and then to top it all she contacted the police and my internet provider accusing me of harassing HER. Luckily she is clearly insane and no one took her seriously, but.... crazy chicks are dangerous.

EDIT: it started when she complained on her facebook page about her dentist giving her vicodin. she said it was too strong, I suggested she half them first before throwing a fit. she accused me of conspiring with the dentist in trying to poison her.

It depends with you company. Many (if not most now) will have in your contract or work agreement areas that say about defamation of the company etc. Pretty much stating that you aren't allowed to do anything which makes the company look bad in the eyes of the general public.

Basically the guideline that most seem to set out is that so long as you don't mention specific names (of people or of the company), and what you're saying does not cause any issues at work (such as with a co-worker) then you'll generally be fine. It needs to be done on a case by case basis as to the exact nature and wording.

That’s just it, no one was mentioned by name, nor was the company. Add to the fact customers in general cant view my page. My post was basically about customers in general and how they are c*nts when they decide to shop when the store is closing!

Yeah, that's a big f*cking rule in retail and food service. If you come in during closing, better prepare to get sh*t because you're a f*cking asshole.

It happens all the time dude. Don't bitch about work where EVERYONE can read it. Facebook is a common source of people getting hired/and or prevented from getting a job for 1. Hand in your resume, boss searches your name on Facebook. Looks at your profile and some of the things you have posted, and that can easily prevent you from getting a job. 2. Complain about work on a huge networking site with millions of users, and any one of those users can search your name and see the things you've posted and your complaints against work/boss. Then you get fired.

#1 is happening A LOT recently, more and more companies are checking your Facebook profile etc. to determine your employment.. It's pretty ridiculous.l confused.gif

I think businesses are quite entitled to do that really. As if you can find out in advance that one of the better candidates for the job enjoys wearing a traffic cone on his head and no clothes when in town you may as well discount them from the shortlist as if you can see that what is to stop customers from seeing that?
