Who actually owns GTAForums? and how is it funded? a recent discussion with my mate has me intrigued! Is there any top dog or company affiliation? I know it's part of GTAnet, so is it all run by them? If so can anyone answer the previous questions regarding gtanet? The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Seen lots of different things there.....and a good amount of them are not GTA related all the time. The explanation that i have heard over and over again is that Tank created this fan site during the rise of GTAIII and under another name., GTA3Net or whatever it was.....then he forgot about it for a bit when he produced some other money maker and then come by to check out this forum and it had grown exponentially to his surprise..... or something like that. So, the story is that Tank owns it, made it; and keeps it running as it is today with the help of the other staff members that is. This has become the most assistant areas on the internet for all things Grand Theft Auto, which is rather a statement considering how many sites on the topic there now are! Of course, many other things are discussed to various degree......particularly in this section. I'm kinda surprised there is't a "The Official Story of the GTAForums Topic" as a history pinned somehwhere on here. Adblock must be working then I don't use any add blockers. Do they have a white list? The add atop GTAF is so very subtle and barely noticeable. If your add blocker has a white list you should add GTAF to it to help support the place EDIT: Maybe it doesn't matter after all. I don't know how add blockers work, but if they just hide it from your browser there is still a solid chance that the advertiser(google in this case) will still see it as a 'view' on their end. I'll blame my jump to conclusion on day light savings. That's probably what happened. I'm pretty sure illy just modified his join date for sh*ts n' giggles. Now, to answer the question at hand: Tank owns and bankrolls the GTA Network and takes care of the server(s). The only ads we have are the small AdSense banners at the top of the sites. Beyond that, I don't know how the network stays afloat -- presumably it's just coming out of Tank's pocket. As for administrative duties, we have our 3 basic network teams: Network Staff, which take care of the websites; Admins, Ledby's and Moderators, who take care of the forums; and IRC staff, who take care of irc.gtanet.com. There's some crossover between the three sections, of course. For example, Adam (adamcs) is both a forum administrator as well as the de-facto content producer for GTA4.NET (likewise for San Andreas). Likewise STM and fred are both forum admins as well as network developers (they work on backend code and such).
