mr_bungle
The Indian Premier League (often abbreviated as IPL), is a Twenty20 cricket competition initiated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and supervised by BCCI Vice President Lalit Modi, Chairman & Commissioner for IPL. The first season of the Indian Premier League commenced on 18 April 2008. It includes 8 teams or "franchises" consisting of players from different countries. The third season of IPL is scheduled to be held in India from 12 March 2010 over a period of 45 days Five new venues, Cuttack, Nagpur, Vishakhapatnam, Ahmedabad and Dharamsala, have been added. Other changes include removal of icon players[6] and granting permission to players who were involved in the Indian Cricket League to play in the tournament. Also, it will be the first sporting event ever to be broadcast live on the popular video sharing website Youtube. The Schedule/Fixtures The Teams Mumbai Indians Captain – Sachin Tendulkar Royal Challengers Bangalore Captain – Anil Kumble Chennai Super Kings Captain – MS Dhoni Delhi Daredevils Captain – Virender Sehwag Deccan Chargers Captain – Adam Gilchrist Kolkata Knight Riders Captain – Saurav Ganguly Kings XI Punjab Captain – Yuvraj Singh Rajasthan Royals Captain – Shane Warne Not sure if many people on the board follow cricket, let alone the IPL. Which personally I think is an amazing tournament. So what is your guy's team? Who are you going for and who do you want to win? Jay
Removal of icon players is excellent. That was such a bullsh*t concept, especially when it came to people like VVS Laxman who had never played t20 cricket before the IPL, and waltzed in as the captain of Deccan as an icon player, being showered in money for what was essentially a useless and shambolic display. The only reason Deccan won IPL2 was because he took a back seat. I was genuinely angry when I saw him in the slips last night. Equally angry when I woke up today and found out that he opened with Gilchrist instead of Gibbs. I love blaming everything on Laxman. Predictions: • Rajasthan to be the dark horse again, Tait to actually do something, Smith to be rock solid and that young dude Warne introduced last year to light sh*t up • Mumbai and Delhi to fail even though they have the prime international players (much to my amusement) • Chennai to make the semi finals (again) just to lose (again) • Player of the tournament to be an Australian that as of today, nobody rates (a la Watson, IPL1 [would have picked Harris if he weren't in the test squad right now]) • Kolkata to do anything other than completely embarrass themselves

mr_bungle
Because cricket isn't a scripted sport. I love how it is streamed live over YT. Although there is a delay between the audio and visual.

SilentSeas
I'm a huge cricket fan and have a season ticket/membership at Essex Eagles. In the IPL I'm following Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians so Ican follow the progress of the two Essex players competing.
Jay
Because cricket isn't a scripted sport. I love how it is streamed live over YT. Although there is a delay between the audio and visual. I found the sound quality to be horrible, but that might just be my connection. I watched last nights games (which were on a massive delay on ONE) streamed from SuperSport in South Africa. Even though the admins of whatever website it was streaming from shut down channels every 5-10 minutes. mr_bungle
Why during the game is there that random Indian tune played then everyone cheering? I still haven't figured out the reason for it, does anyone know?
Jay
The DJs control it. They had a boundary rider talk to the DJ in between overs in IPL2 and he was like "want to see 30,000 people cheer at once?" and then pressed the button. It's nothing really. No different to a mexican wave or someone yelling out "Aussie Aussie Aussie" and getting Oi Oi Oi in response. It keeps the crowd involved. mr_bungle
I see. I thought it was something along those lines, thanks for clearing it up.
Girish
• Mumbai and Delhi to fail even though they have the prime international players (much to my amusement) MI must have surprised you then, thanks mainly to the sublime form that Sachin Tendulkar is in. Anwyays, this year's IPL isn't as interesting with fully-clothed cheerleaders.
mr_bungle
Holy sh*t it's girish. Haven't seen you in yonks, I thought this topic might attract you somewhat.
nerner
I love the time the IPL is on ITV4. Perfect for me to nwind and watch some pretty decent cricket. I can't remember who was playing but some random team got their arses kicked completely last time I watched. Wow! we have a topic for Indian something something but not for WrestleMania? That post just made my day buddy. Thanks.
cacarla
Anyways, this year's IPL isn't as interesting with fully-clothed cheerleaders. Fixed that sentence. It means that you haven't seen the deccan girls Girish!

cacarla
246 in 120 balls is just awesome. Chennai deserved a win but the Royals were right up there. i get the feeling that today is going to be a slobber knocker with Royal challengers taking on the Daredevils. It's no. 2 vs no.3. Also, i hope Punjab get another huge pounding and burn in hell.

cacarla
I won't be wearing pants during the Delhi/Bangalore game. No f*cking way. Turned to be a easy game Jay. Also, i hate to see a power packed DC lose like that to that no good RR. I mean Watson's innings saved the team and scored at a brisk pace but, if you're incapable of scoring 6 runs of one over ( the last over of the RR's bowling), then you're not good to be here. @Jay: Why is it that you Aussies shine wherever and whatever you play in? Jay
@Jay: Why is it that you Aussies shine wherever and whatever you play in? Hahahah ask Shaun Tait, Brett Lee, Andrew Symonds and David Hussey Seriously though, a Chennai side with Bollinger and (maybe) Hussey in it will probably give Mumbai a run for their money. Again, no pants.
!!GC!!
Shaun Tait, what a good guy. Cant bowl for sh*t in tests though. He cant go more than 2 overs at a time cos he kills himself with the effort he puts in for each bowl haha. I've been watching the IPL a bit recently. Didn't realise we had a topic about it here. Cool.

Jay
Nah man I was joking, those four have been teeeeerible in IPL3. Ryan Harris, Doug Bollinger and Shane Watson haven't embarrassed themselves. Neither has Adam Voges and Andrew McDonald.
cacarla
Nah man I was joking, those four have been teeeeerible in IPL3. Oh it's like that huh? Sorry jay. Great knock Symmo yesterday. RCB are now under serious to win the next 3 out of their remaining 4 games.
