Kloppstock
Im a bit disturbed now...i bought GTA 4 in januari 2009, then i was forced to realize that my graphic card was to crappy, so i invested in a Radeon EAH4850 TOP 1024 Mb, but that wasnt enough on its own, before this X-mass i got myself a complete computer upgrade cause it was time but apperentley a... AMD Phenom 2 X4 945 Processor 3025 MHz 4 Gb ram ..is still dont enough to max for example "texture quality"...which i believe "normal" is the cause for my ingame to look like feces question= do you agree that i should now deserve to have moore graphic points available than.....489 (even 7 ponts less than old computer!) I can now only see one moore area i could burn money on (in vain) you see im driving Win XP SP2 (32 bit)..there is only available 3.25 Gb ram to work with therefore so if i buy Windows 7 i guess all 4 Gb shall become available, will that give me about 400 new spending points you think? Intel Pentium4 ,2 GHz, 2 Gb ram Phenomen 3, GHz, 4 Gb ram
OverTheBelow
Make sure to get windows 7 64 bit, not 32bit. that way you will be able to utilize all ram. Unless like me you have an insanely sh*t motherboard that only supports 3.25gb ram detectable.

It at least needs to be an 64bit to use all the RAM. Should solve almost all problems i reckon.

PecanFrost
You're currently seeing 489MB of available memory (for your video card) either due to the card only having 512Mb of dedicated memory on it or if the card is a 1024Mb version you are using a commandline of some description (wrongly). If you're still using the ATi HD4850 1024Mb you should have more than enough memory to run the high quality textures at your current resolution and settings. Thanks for your attention there, i was accually confused and wrote wrong there...you are right! this card is infact on 512 Mb only i guess thats to little for "high textures" then? im not sure 1024 ram existed in the beginning of 2009 when i went shopping, well it must have costed alot if so? so i thaut i was a smartass to instead buy a "middleprice" card, that was a hughe misstake probably and i underestimated the power of Rockars bad optimization So what will drag my points upwards most...buying windows 7 or a new card on 1024 mb, or do i need both? and is there any possibility that windows 7 alone would be able to enable "High"..or does that hang on the graphic card alone? It will make little difference upgrading to it. You'll have to buy a new graphics card if you want high textures without stutter, otherwise you can just use the commandline '-availablevidmem 2'. I know, i was moore asking if perhaps windows 7 would release moore free system ram as a compensation for lack of enough graphic card ram allwright, is it the increased value (1024) of graphic RAM that will stretch out the lines on enviromental objects and the people? and with 1024 i can enable "High" and get about 800 points? Does the above values match a "middleprice" card from ATI or Geforce in 2010? or must i go for the heaviest? i would accually appretiate a link advice here from someone Edited March 12, 2010 by Kloppstock

Getting mine tomorrow, over 125$ cheaper than the 5870 at only 10% less performance (remember its overclockable too). If you're budget is around 150$, you can get an ATI HD 5770 for around 166$ and that has some good reviews too. They both only come in 1024mb memory forms, too, so no confusion for you.
