kal-el5676
Just wondering if it is possible to add reflections to weapon models. like the jetpack for instance?
DexX
Yes you can, and it makes a big difference, especially if you have a decent weapon model. Add the reflection map to your material, and if you're using Kam's scripts, be sure normals are turned on when you export. If this is for SA, you can add specular lighting too... kal-el5676
well, i'd like to try. i have never played with reflections as i have never really done a vehicle. i have done many map models, weapon models, and rigged a few peds, but if you could offer some pointers thatd be great. i've used 2dfx and your scripts before as well. appreciate any help ahead of time. Waltzing Mouse
Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVwB6lC4EVw I've asked the guy for the weapons but he hasn't replied yet. I plan on checking out how he did it then doing on the standard SA weapons.
kal-el5676
yep, thats exactly what i want to do. anyone? dexx? i try to play with it but it always crashes my game.
DexX
It crashed for me too, now it works. Not sure which settings fixed it, but here's what i did in max: My reflection map is "vehicleenvmap128" from vehicle.txd, renamed to "gunenvmap", and added to the txd for the weapon (chromegun.txd in this case). Don't add the texture to the Specular Image section, that's a mistake on my part. On a related note, if you check the "Vehicle Parts" box on the export dialog, you can use the extended material parameters (mainly spec) but the reflection map will be tiled and look really screwy. If you aren't going to use spec, then i wouldn't use it.
kal-el5676
Ok, this is very cool for sure, but it doesnt work on the jetpack? it still crashes for some reason. i get it to work on all other weapons, but not the jetpack. Also, is it a true reflection? or just retextured with the reflection texture? it doesnt seem to change as it moves. Thank you none the less dexx
DexX
The reflection image "moves" to give the illusion of being real, but the image contents do not represent the surrounding environment. Not sure what's going on with the jetpack..
kal-el5676
Ahhhhhh, i see. Well, i think the prob is the jetpack has those 2 booster models which are animated and therefore adding any reflection data is an overload essentially.

kal-el5676
whichever u like, but how hard could it be? is it much different than dexx's technique?
JohnPro
Its 100% possible as dexx said speculars too. Simply apply the texture to the weapon like you would a vehicle with relfection. In material editor change it from standard to GTA Material. Scroll down and look for vehicle default button then click it. now settings will automatically be added. change specular to grey because white is too bright now for the color select the texture of your gun Leave everything else default or maybe adjsut reflection to a lower value so its not so shiny Export your model as you would any other model using kams scripts Add the texture xvehicleenv from vehicles.txd into the txd of your weapon. You can also import the specular texture but I didnt and specular and it works just fine. By the way the weapons in the video look badly made and he obviously didnt change the relfection value to a lower value. It looks weird if you ask me. Good luck! kal-el5676
Everytime I assign a gta material and add a reflection on the jetpack it crashes. Something specifically that quechus does makes it not crash. i wish i knew what it was, you should record yourself doing it or something quechus.
